The whole idea of “behind the gun” is to control recoil instead of letting it push you backwards. This is something that both Even and Isak have struggled with this season. The way Even reacted to Isak talking about his mom’s mental illness in the locker room; the way Isak reacted to finding out the truth about Even, they were both afraid and confused and hurt by the recoil.
Going back to watch that locker room scene after recent events has been heartbreaking, because already then, Even had made his decision to leave, but at the same time he wanted nothing more than to stay.
This is something I think Isak is struggling with right now. He’s impressionable and always assumes the worst, and for some reason he has it in his head that the best thing to do is stay away from Even (thanks to our lovely Sonja).
But they need each other, I believe they both feel a sense of groundedness in one another, so I wanted to make this video about that―how they both need each other to hold the gun but have both been afraid to. I think there’s an aspect of fear in every relationship, to give yourself up, to become vulnerable is scary. But I have no doubt these two will end up happy in the end, it’s just a matter of how.

i never noticed the detail in how even's expression becomes so alert and cautious when isak says his mum is insane.
it's such a small detail. he internalizes so much of it, just the smallest change in expression often is so telling for his character.

Wow. I think my favorite thing about your videos is the way they make you pull thoughts together as you watch? I love how this one is a meditation on fear and handing someone the power to hurt you, I think that's one of the things this show did best. The lyrics here are pitch perfect, I'd never heard this song before and "I need you behind the gun" hit me straight in the gut. I know you don't think this is your best work but I really like how it's not entirely clean and directed. It makes you reach and feel more strongly, it puts you in their minds. It suits the idea. I feel really grateful that you and Skam found each other, a brilliant show deserves such a brilliant mind vidding it.

My favorite vids are the ones where the vidder is making connections, where they bring you down new paths even, and that's what I get from these. You overlay audio onto other scenes in a really cool way, I love it. For some reason, I'm really struck by the section from 1:12 to 1:28... like, putting those pieces together isn't as straightforward for me but that feels like the way your brain knits together things. This is from both of their perspectives but I want to give a special shoutout to how clearly you show Even's pov, his fear, that's something we as viewers pieced together in hindsight so I like seeing it assembled so beautifully here. Whether you wind up pursuing this professionally or not, you've got a really great sense for editing imho!
It's interesting too, this didn't occur to me until now, but the way this song cycles and builds and the blown out distortion reminds me a bit of "High For This"??
