A much more casual video than usual, just having a discussion around the final movie and what's left to come. Shoutout to my old laptop I last used at Uni that somehow managed to run premiere pro and survive (did sound like a jet engine at times though lol). @@annahdz4614 i dunno it didnt seem all that bad. been a while since i read but there wasnt a whole lot cut and it did a pretty good job of showing the match.
they need budget.. remember wht they've been through in season 4?. That's why I think it's fair this nekoma match turned into a movie. Even tho I still preferred 100% the anime pace over the movie pace, it is what it is.. Now that the movie making so much profit, I have faith the rest of the manga would be done justice.
The film literally encapsulated the entire match pretty much bar for bar in 80 minutes. The Nekoma match is longer than the Kamomedai and Jackals match, and Brazil isn't even an arc lmao. It's a beach tournament you don't even really see much of, and Hinata inspiring Oikawa, which is the only real meat of the "arc". Kamomedai match consists of two half sets of content and the third set isn't even properly seen. When you look at the structural storytelling of how the film will go, Hinata becoming the ultimate decoy, getting sick and the team losing, Hinata growing his skills in Brazil to ultimately make it in the big leagues.
it's kinda amazing how the manga has some of the best sport matches i have seen, and some great anime episodes, and the studio decides to say "fuck it, 2 movies"
I think it's because studio might be overwhelmed with work, and they can't give it enough time. Like last season 4 was full with lower quality animation from another studio, even in some of the important matches.
I don't understand the studio why they'd be like this, even though haikyuu still popular until now, they still have so many fans 😢 why don't they treated haikyuu like bones treated MHA or ufotable treated demon slayer, it doesnt matter took a long time to production just be consistent like they treated with kuroko no basuke
@@NikolaNevenov86 the scenes with lower quality animation weren't really important. It was also made during covid so that probably impacted the animators. If a season 5 was even a little bit better then season 4 then people would be satisfied. Season 4's animation is far from bad
I can’t believe this series is really coming to an end. Haikyuu impacted me so much, and got me to start playing volleyball going in high school. Now I’m playing as the libero in my college. It truly has taught me so much and changed my life. That being said I truly loved watching the movie and it was worth the wait
Yeah same for me it got me into playing volleyball and I've recently started to make some good progress with it getting some recognition from my team as a setter. An incredibly influential series.
There is so much technique taught through the manga. So much detail. Haikyuu is the encyclopedia for Volleyball in my opinion. You can learn concepts and techniques quicker (at least you start to understand them) before anyone in real life tells them to you. Honestly, every coach has his own approach to the sport, so most of the time you won't even hear about certain concepts...and you'll miss out. Reading the Haikyuu manga (and watching the anime) just makes you a slightly better Volleyball player compared to if you didn't read/watch it. Haikyuu is just that complete. An encyclopedia.
There's no indication so far that there will be an OVA or a 3rd movie, in fact it was explicitly stated that these two movies would serve as the finale of the series, sure you have the example of Attack on Titans having like 25 final seasons but that's an exception, so there's nothing guaranteeing that there will be more Haikyu!! anime, that's why it's worrying that unless the announcement was a marketing lie, all that there's left is a 1.5 to 2 hour movie to adapt whatever they can fit in there.
perfect timing I just watched the movie today. It was good, very good but it could have been on that legendary level if it got more time to cook (I watched in the cinema btw as its being released outside of japan now).
Yeah honestly it was great but if they hadn’t cut out some parts it could’ve also been another legendary match. I wish they weren’t making these bad choices
Just got home from watching it, and it's a love-hate relationship. It was great visual wise, but the off-screen points and missing scenes threw me off. I got to the point where I thought the match was going to end in the first hour. In my opinion the kamomedai match should be the next movie along with everyone saying goodbye. Then turn the Brazil and jackal arcs into a series. One final movie to cover the rest is ridiculous to even thing about.
Missing scenes?? There was one core scene that was missing, which was Ukai and Nekomata as kids. And you can barely argue the 1 page flashback of Inuoka was integral. Lets not pretend Jackals match was point for point like the Karasuno Nekoma match was. It was all central around highlights of Hinata and just how much he has grown despite when we had last seen him in his first year. Making a 2 hour film will work out fine, just like how any 2 hour film tells a story....
@@iDakk96I don't really care about the matches being fast pace but it's important to give character defining moments some time instead of rushing through it. The Hinata becoming a decoy, him getting sick and the Brazil parts are all important for hinata's character. I believe It will feel stale if it is fast paced or rushed.
As someone who read the manga after watching the movie, in my opinion at least I think it covered everything about as well as it could’ve, the emotional moments really stick out as powerful to me and the message of pushing yourself to your natural limits with Kenma is a powerful one. The choice to do the final rally from kenmas pov was a really strong choice and left me tearing up. That being sad, it’s easy to say this movie did feel a little rushed. Missing a bit of the dynamic scenes from previous matches but the animation quality itself is was overall spectacular, especially toward the end. I’d probably give it a 7/8 out of 10
To be honest, I am hopeful that, just like Demon Slayer, and the Mugen train movie, that it might be adaptated into some episodes and expanded upon It may be just me being naive, but there is still a chance. :)
I watched movie today. I had almost crying and so much goosebumps but... They literally CUT a lot of chapters from manga. 2.8min/chapter and some of these were cut....
The movie definitely felt weird with the amount of stuff that was cut. Seen it today as well and honestly I'm more worried than ever for the rest of the series
Just watched the movie and I *loved* it, but do wish they could have extended it closer to 2 hrs so we could get more scenes, more rallies. Still an amazing adaptation though, highly recommend anyone on the fence to go watch it. As for the remaining parts, I really really hope for 2 movies but like you said I don't think they want the time skip to be on its own. It would honestly just work best being back in an episode format but I highly doubt that, so we can only pray for a longer movie
I just watched the movie yesterday, and I just left the theaters feeling unsatisfied. Compared to previous seasons it felt like we were rushing through any emotional points in the story. One interesting way to see the movie is that it may be a more accurate portrayal of what it's like to actually play volleyball. There's no time for you to stay on what happened previously, you have to adapt now or you lose. But I like this series for the story and I didn't feel we had any time to spend time with the story.
The next movie will probably only be the komomedia match and not include the time skip or the black jackal match. It would be nice if they included the bokuto match
isn't it confirmed that the next movie will be the last? even if it only include kamomedai match, that means that the time skip and MSBY match will never be animated
No way will they just have the kamomedai arc, it literally ends with hinata leaving and we don't really even see the rest of the match. Talk about a bummer of a movie
I just saw the movie yesterday. I got the earliest tickets I could find. I watched with my sister who loves haikyuu as well. She thought it was great, as did I. However, I did feel it was a bit short, just a bit. I don't read the manga, but I do feel it differently paced from the anime.
Its closer in feeling to the Date Tech season 1 match than the other big games in the series. when each set felt like a single episode length it was going to feel short in comparison to even how blessed we felt after the Aoba Josai game. As a manga reader I personally feel it was a good movie but at the same time It made me more worried about future movies than confident
I've watched the film and it's great! Most of it is in the film BUT 1) you can't stay in the moment for even a second before the next thing happens. And 2) they're able to squeeze as much as they can because they skip points (a la matches before Shiratorizawa), the Nekoma match went through so long because you really were in the match experiencing everything as it happens. This isn't necessarily a good or bad thing, just a difference that I observed. The first point is definitely a big downside of the film. You're not allowed to breathe at all in between moments.
Cause every studio is trying to copy Demon Slayer once they saw how much Mugen Train made (it’s currently the second or highest grossing movie in Japan history) JJK had a movie for its canon prequel series, CSM is having a movie covering the bomb girl arc, Demon Slayers final arc will be 3 movies, etc.
I was talking to a friend and we suspected it’ll end at kamomedai with everything else just showing up as a flash montage at the end… everyone I’ve talked to has been hoping it’ll pull a demon slayer and release an actual season for these arcs after the movies and flesh everything out more especially after the success we saw in this movie.
I’ve seen the movie twice and it was pretty enjoyable. However, 85 minutes was criminal. Thinking about the next movie is painful tbh, I love Haikyuu so much and I would’ve wanted 10 more seasons Hopefully they will make the next movie longer, and they will be able to streamline the story properly, without losing it’s essence I’m still very sad about the course they chose A fill season 5 with Nekoma and Kamomedai would have been ideal, and then a post time skip movie if not a season 6
Season 5 for both of these matches and in-between fukurodani vs mujinazaka would be perfect, like spot on 25 episodes with good pacing and then a movie for time skip arcs. Man I wish they gonna change their plans about those upcoming movies.
i just watched the movie today and i thought it was honestly really good and defo didnt disappoint even in comparison to the haikyuu manga/prev anime as a whole . however it was noticeable to me, even though im an anime only rn, that they cut out a lot of the rallies and smaller developments leading to some very minor “choppiness” and rushed feeling just as someone who’s rewatched the show countless times and is familiar with the matches, but i can still say confidently that the parts that were animated were done beautifully and definitely left an impact on me. i can definitely see it being even better though- perhaps even a masterpiece if it was allowed to simmer for longer …. overall it’s a brilliant addition to a brilliant series and i rlly hope the haikyuu as an animated series is completed with just as much care and time 😢😢
I’m going to be watching it soon, obviously I’m sure manga readers will be disappointed with cut content but I’m hopeful that anime-onlys will not notice any pacing issues and get a great finale.
Probably a very unpopular opinion but to me even the nekoma vs karasuno match felt very rushed ( I am anime only btw ). The flashbacks didnt have enough time to settle in, the impactful hype moments passed by way too quickly. I really hope they do what demon slayer did and make the 2 movies into a full 25 episodes series with extra scenes, giving us about 4.6minutes/chapter which is more than enough. This is one of my favourite anime and to see it end like that is just sad.
@@kenchandrasena2070 yeah after watching the movie yesterday, thats what I plan to do. Even though I liked the movie a lot, I feel like reading the manga would give me a much better experience. It's still just sad to see my favourite anime not coming to a proper conclusion after such a long wait.
@@mattkony I don't disagree with you. Goal was to finish the storyline, which was satisfying. For those who feel that there were things missing in the movie/story, they should check out the manga to see the stuff that will not likely be in the last film.
It's a strange feeling when you're in a theater with a bunch of people who are stoked for the movie, but you're all such introverts that you sit in silence for 90 mins, instead of raving on the internet about the three month hype train that would be a seasonal release. I was the only one in the theater who said "Yamaguchi nice serve!" Where my nakama at?!
3 movies would be best, but realistically they: (1) definitely cut parts of not just the kamomedai game but every big arc they decide to animate, (2) cut Fukurodani game, (3) end short with a positive note meaning end of Brazil arc or end of Jackals game (maybe deciding at a later time to cover the untouched material) but likely end of Brazil arc/start of Jackals game
I'm an anime only. I did hope that the movie was at least 2 hours 30 minutes long, The second half of that arc felt a bit rushed, Noya and Asahi didn;t get enough epic moments, its all true. BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT WAS INSANEE SEEING THIS IN A THEATRE. With a packed audience cheering and hooting with the same love you have for this show. Yes, the movie should've been longer, but I really will never wish for it to have been a season 5 instead of a movie, cause then I would have missed out on such an insane experience
I watched the movie then carefully going to the manga as I am anime only. But I noticed a lot of scenes from the manga that was cut out in the movie. I loved the visual in the movie and still appreciated the hard work and the quality of the animation and the sound engineering but it lacked that off courts scenes I missed.
Making the movie 2 hours would have fixed so many things I still really loved the movie but it would have been better at 2 hours or as a regular season
I honestly think the biggest sin was the shortened runtime, but not only just because there was so much cut content/shortened arcs and quotes (when ukai simply said “the hardest path is in fact the easiest” without the context of before), it was the fact that they couldn’t have gone wrong with a too-long movie, the entire overarching story between the two is how exhausting the match is, how long it drags out, the sapping of stamina of both teams to the point where they spend time DURING A RALLY hoping that the ball will just fall so they don’t have to move anymore. Missing out on that entirely was probably my biggest criticism, and the other one was the complete lack of reaction from the gym, sure you had the cheers and the cuts to reactions, but in the manga it is THE match going on, the place is going absolutely nuts to the point where Bokuto is looking over and getting inspired by just how nuts the place is going on these exhausting rallies with incredible spikes and digs, I don’t know, it just felt a little underwhelming for me
While Haikyuu up to season 4 was already good, how the manga continues afterwards elevated the series to a 11/10 for me. It's so unbelievably rare that a series somehow gets better with time, but Haikyuu even manages to end with a bitter sweet yet fully satisfying roar. With that said, I've been feeling completely dead inside since watching the movie yesterday, similar to game of thrones' ending. What the hell happened? So many pivotal scenes and breadcrumb stories were skipped, and the touching ones that were in (like Zukki and Yamaguchis serve&block part) were sped through with a few image flashbacks. Hinata's first few boom jumps in the manga still give me shivers, but the one we got in the movie was underwhelming as shit. I don't know how it's possible that Ukai senior's final ghostly handshake elicited next to no reaction from the theater audience. Not once in the years I've waited for this movie did I think it could be bad or even mediocre. The source material is so insanely good and the shows prior season's have been incredible, even during the COVID era. Yuki Hayashi has been consistently bringing scenes to life through his music FOR YEARS, but after the movie, I wasn't able to come up with a single banger. Aside from Kenma's incredible final POV rally, I consider this movie a weak 4/10, which is lower than many of the throwaway OVAs.. I'm genuinely bummed for all the fans who already like the show but who will likely miss out on the manga now that there is a lower-effort medium available. Shit I'm bummed just in general to the point where my morning workout felt like an anemic slog. Maybe I'm the problem and had way too high expectations to think that this wouldn't be yet another half-baked anime movie.
I just came back from the cinema and even though im a die hard haikyuu fan, i got similar feelings. I don't know what were they thinking when they had around 10 episodes worth of content and decided to put it into a 80 minute movie. 10 episodes is roughly 4 hours. I kinda felt like watching a recap episode of the match to be honest. There's a ton of impactful scenes, that need proper build up and so far, haikyuu has done that incredibly well, like i've never seen an anime/manga that can create such good build up to a scene that hits you like a truck (tanaka cross spike or hinata receive for example), but here it just lacks that. Tsukki-yamaguchi moment was over so fast i barely noticed, hinatas big jump moment was probably the only thing that had a decent build up to it, but on the other hand, it had, in my opinon, awful music choice. The track was way to much uplifting and hero-like it just didnt fit and anime soundtracks are basically my favorite part of watching animes so i felt really disappointed with that scene in particular. Overall it wasn't bad, i still enjoyed it and had fun watching, but as someone who's a haikyuu fan for over 12 years and was really impacted by the series throughout, I think i had my expectations way too high.
@MarKeLiuZ You must not have read the manga. The movie was great but it didn't do the source material justice. So many great scenes and moments were rushed our skipped entirely.
@@vern2k653 I read everything lol. Still, I believe the movie was amazing, and covering this match and the following one with movies was the way to go (Superb animation). As I said in another comment, my only complaint about this one would be not adding the flashback about Ukai and Nekomata. Despite that, everything was perfect to me. I'm a little bit concerned about them rushing the following match just to add what happens after the time-skip, but I elaborated more on this in another comment and I don't want to repeat myself.
For the last part. I think maybe it should be a season. But after watching the Nekoma vs Karasuno movie. I believe it was the right decision. Having it episodically, and drawn out to 12 episodes...AGAIN like Shiatorizawa ...having it as 1 CONTINUOUS GAME was much more interesting than 1 episode per week. BUT that's because this is the game we've been anticipating since the beginning, but the Kamomedai is one we can get as a season
Like most of you, saw the movie earlier. And although i enjoyed it, it did fall short of my lofty expectations. I expected more build-up from certain scenes and more epicness from others. It made me think that having this all in 1 movie and not waiting for a weekly chapter to build up the hype took a lot of those aspects out of it. And without getting into the specifics for spoiler reasons, i also preferred some words used in the manga translation over the subs here since it just gave more impact. Overall, my take was this was more of a tribute movie over an actual animated movie adaptation of the source material. I still enjoyed it but the long wait since the last season to the release of this movie made the anticipation hard to match and unfortunately didnt do it for me
Finally, the movie got released here in my country this week and finally I can watch your video without getting spoiled ^^; _Although I did read the manga countless times and know the lines by heart..._ but I didn't know what would be covered. And all I now really want to say is, I hope they will make two more movies. How to split this up, I can't say. But only one would be really frustrating regardless of what they leave out. Every chapter adds something and will be sorely missed when left out.
Sending a 🙏 for a final seasonal cour to adapt the final arcs. It would be a shame to not adapt them because they are incredible. I really want anime onlys to experience Furudate's writing reach its zenith. To shorten them would be unfortunate, to cut it entirely would just plain suck.
just watched after re-binging all previous seasons. the animation and sound effects were amazing in theaters! But I think I def was too short I think more time would've made each moment hit harder bc it just felt like checking boxes of perspectives that needed to be shown instead of fleshed out. Fav is still shiratorazawa arc
I'm thinking the next movie will be the next match + a short follow up to show the olympic team I imagine hoishumi says his iconic "i'll be waiting for you" and we'll get an anime original "I'm here" but at the olympics given run time I can only hope
I'm guessing they'll take 90% of the time to do the Kamomedai match and do the post time-skip as if it was something like a "post-credits" scene, possibly ending at the start of the MSBY x Jackals match the same way that the manga ends at the start of the Olympics match. Or maybe they'll just skip that match entirely, who knows?
To me, the movie was extremes I loved it and I hated it I hated it because the movie was trying to fit 35 (manga episodes?) into an hour and a half. The amazing thing that I loved about Haikyu from season 1-4 is the character arc, the inner monologues, the growth, evolution of the team as individuals and together. This movie hardly made that impact since it's only an hour and a half long. The animation style was very different. The angles of the shots, the synchronised attacks, all those animation styles and choices were completely different and I wasn't the biggest fan. What absolutely slapped about the movie was it was Haikyu. And we love Haikyu.
I desperately hope that the success the dumpster battle had will make them decide to make two more movies and at least one OVA. OVA for Fukurodani vs Mujinazaka. Movie for Kamomedai vs Karasuno. Movie for Brazil + Jackals vs Adlers
I know it's not gonna happen, but my ideal scenario: - Short 10-epidode season with Kamomedai vs Karasuno match and Fukurodani match (mini flash-forward to Brazil at the very end) One week after the last episode airs: - 2nd Movie drops covering Brazil arc (about one third of runtime), MSBY vs Adlers, and Olympics (just the last minutes)
I'll watch the Garbage Dump movie soon (probably at monday). I have a lot of high expectations for some scenes, especially... to avoid as much spoilers as possible, I'll only use the words "cage" and "BAM". About what to expect for the next Haikyuu animations, I can't help but have high hopes for the Brazil arc (Furudate visited the country to make them justice and, well... I'm brazilian, so it's quite cool to see the country exposed positively, as a place to hone volleyball skills). HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD, ANYONE WHO WANTS TO AVOID THEM, BE CAREFUL: It's sad to think about not having the Fukurodani match, Bokuto's development there is awesome. Also, I like a lot how Hinata and Oikawa develop a friendship in Brazil, but I guess it will be extremely rushed or not shown at all.
I think that alot of the brazil arc can be cut out and moved more into a montage of what hinta did to get to the level he end up at and they could honestly end the series with him scoring the point where he puts his arms and says "im back" or whatever it was that he says. They can pan to Kagyamas devilish smile and maybe the reactions of his former teamates and then fade to black with him having his arms up. IMO that would finish off the series well showing hinta reached the peak and while the outcome of the match is a full circle moment, we dont need to see him win yo finish his story because the story is about him achieving his goals despite his disadvantages and i think that moment encapsulates that idea very well
The movie was really good! But it was missing one of Haikyuu's biggest strengths for me: showcasing everyone's contribution. It was good for my Kenma-loving heart, but even then I was always waiting for Kageyama, Yaku, and Noya's shining moments. I didn't specifically remember what those moments were as it's been a while since my last reread, but I knew they had them bec Furudate had always emphasized the strengths of even his smallest side characters. I felt it was criminal to basically cut all of Kageyama's highlight moments bec those also tie in directly with Hinata's. I will hold out hope for a season 5, and 6, and 7. 😢
Its amazing how people still think the next movie will adapt EVERYTHING THATS LEFT. Not that hard people, its obvious the nest movie will be just kamomedai ffs
They announced that there will be 2 films to finish the series. Not only will Kamomedai be a horrible way to end Haikyuu in animated form, fans would not want them to end without going to the end of the story.
@@smolchibi7128 I'd like to think that but I'm not holding out hope. It's not like the anime ever performed poorly. It's possible that season 4 didn't do as well as the other seasons. But it's always been wildly popular, both internationally and in Japan. That includes season 4. Hell, Haikyuu is still being used to promote the Japan volleyball league.
it’s such a shame they’ll prolly cut the fukurodani match. akaashi is one of my favorite characters and it just devastates me to know that his character development in that match won’t get shown
I loved it. But I really felt like it was too short. It would have been better if they made it into another season. Or they should announce another or few more movies NOW haha.
What sucks as well is the distribution of the film. I live in a decent size metro area. 4 cities that is about the same size as KC. We have six theaters within 20 minutes of me and none showing Haikyuu movie. I need to go 2 hours away to watch it.
this is also my concern as well, im not sure who proposed making it into two movies but i hope they regret going forward with this decision. im worried they will rush through the national arc and go into ts or just do national arc and that's it i really hope like you said they will do 2hrs for the second movie and maybe a small glimpse of ts... really want to see the miya twins, omi, etc to all be animated
As someone who only read the manga after the ending of the nekoma game (like only those remaining chapters and nothing else), can anyone give me a brief rundown of stuff that was cut? Just curious
its still super worth it! its still soo amazing. i don't really have any problems with the pacing. the story telling in the movie is still sooo beautiful and enjoyable. i watched it 3 times it's sooo fun! 🧡🧡🧡💯💯💯
Can anyone tell me if they cut out Hoshiumi's other game? Ik they showed him win at the end of the movie, but in the manga was the whole game shown? I read the manga a while ago and some of my absolute favorite chars were shown there (Kiryuu, Hirugami), im gonna be so sad if their matches are just completely ommited
i rejust literally finished watching it lmao. as a manga reader, the pacing was definitely fast. but if you are an anime only, i feel like then pacing will be alright. thats all i could say.
they can do a oikawa journey after he loses to karasuno and goes to argentina and then join it with the hinata brazil arc for a movie oikawa is so very beloved and interesting character it MIGHT work? if we get 3 movies ofc
fairly certain i seen an animator talking about how they are adding scenes from things we didnt see in the timeskip eg things from hinatas 2nd and 3rd year at karasuno
Ok I don't care if I get hate or not but... WE NEED THREE MOVIES! TWO ISN'T ENOUGH.. To fit 76 chapters into a movie won't cut it. Plus we have already seen Aoba Joshai, Shiratorizawa, and Nekoma get games. (I can't watch the first and second cause I have Netflix) So let Kamomedai get a movie for its own! And then do a timeskip movie. I haven't been able to go see the dumpster battle cause of being busy but it's absolute bs that we might get a movie with 76 chapters where each chapter only gets 1.2 MINUTES OF SCREEN TIME!!!
They did the same thing for the stage play. Everything after the Nekoma match was crammed into the final play. Haikyuu Stage is already a much more condensed version, but fans were still complaining about it so much. Haikyuu Stage was wildly popular (with fans even flying in internationally), so it was never a matter of lacking interest or funds. So their plans for the second film is not a surprise but still largely frustrating. I want to hope that they change their minds but what's announced has been announced. I don't want to hold up hope and be disappointed for something that was never expected to happen.
My hope still is that after making money with the movies they will take them to make a series out of it like they did with demon slayer. Because I agree the Haikyuu ending was a piece of art. It was such an important message about maturing and every single chapter was thrilling in the final game as well as holding meaning for the individual characters. Plus it was an astounding love for detail that the series would have ended after 8 years in the year of the Japanese Olympics (covid ruined that one too) , which is the same time span between the beginning and end of the series.
I have watched the movie a few days and I love it. I also have the same worries too. I think they will mention a little bit only about the Kamomedai vs Karasuno match and Brazil arc in the final movie, focusing on the match between MSBY Black Jackals and Schweiden Adlers and some post credits for the Olympic.
Besides the dumpster battle, they would have to make 2 movies to complete everything in a good way, and it still won't be as good as seasons. The first movie will have to contain Fukurodani vs Mujinazaka and Karasuno vs Kamomedai. Starting the 3rd and final movie with Hinata in Brazil would also make the movie a really good sequel to the first 2, since its a beginning of an entire new arc and a new movie. Hopefully this happens. I wish they would just stick to making episodes instead, it's disappointing
Sticking a spoiler warning on the top for anyone who's yet to see the film, as i realised my feelings give a lot away: I'm going to check out before the spoilers (I know the general gist of the future chapters but want to wait). But I personally feel like the movie worked because it went too quickly. This is the game things have built towards for four seasons, and it finished before any climatic spike; it's true to life where you want a match to keep going, to have fun even if exhausted, but the end result is often decided partway through. However, that style only works for a team like Nekoma which we've gotten to know. We barely know the other team, amd Haikyu's strength is making you like the opponents through reflections on character development rather than on pitch powerups. The film still did some but jot as much because we've seen so much of Nekoma, and i worry that isn't going to be possible with future matches.
I just came back from watching the movie, I was pretty disappointed yet not too surprised because I assumed this would happen when I heard they were doing these movies. There were a lot of cut scenes and the emotional scenes they did put in didn't have any room to breathe because the pacing was too fast. The movie level animation was great but honestly I would give that up for a more thorough adaptation.
I think the movie will start on Kamomedai/Karasunos last set, with Hinata in the other room. We’re gonna right from that to Brazil with the last HS match sprinkled in via flashbacks, right into the final match of the manga. Even this way it’ll feel rushed I’m certain.
I heard it was going to be 2 movies which happy with. I get hit people want a season, but we are going to get some really really great animation if we go film production quality
I don't think they'll cut Bokuto's match completely, because it's a very important moment that leads to the moral conclusion at the end of Nationals. So, I predict that the second movie will start with this game, but it will be very short on screen indeed.
Loved following/reading this series so much, and I did really enjoy the movie! That being said if they do cut out/cut short the last arcs like Brazil/Jackals/Olympics it would leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I thoroughly enjoyed the Jackals game a huge amount and it really shows the amount of growth Hinata gained as a player. It would be a huge shame for anime-only's not to experience that magic
What I fear most is they end up cutting Hirugami’s backstory chapter, but im afraid that’s probably what’s going to happen. He, unfortunately, isn’t a very popular character, and anime-onlies have seen *very* little of him, so I think the producers might doubt their interest in him. I pray this doesn’t happen because it would be SUCH a shame- Hirugami has one of the most compelling backstories imo, especially in regards to the rest of Haikyuu and the recurring theme nationals and post-timeskip that “Being good means being free.”
I feel the last movie will start at the end of the game before the drama, quick montage/recap to show the fall out. The movie act 1 will starts in Brazil after the intro, and it is Hinata learning and growing before Jackyls which will finish the last act and short epilogue with the Olympics
To be honest the dumpster battle is a bit overkill. Nekoma had so much presence in the whole story that I was not looking forward to seeing a whole movie for that.
They could release the last movie in two parts like how they do with all the popular series. Like the rest of the nationals in Part I with a sneak peek into Brazil scenes and all the remaining flashforward scenes in Part II. But we all know they won’t 😭
Sadly the next movie will probably just be the Kamomedai match with a 2-5 minutes scene at the end with the credit for the Brazil-V1-Olympic as a clip compilation. It sucks big time, let's hope that it doesn't end like this.
Just saw the movie. It was fantastic! Had to hold back tears at the end. People complaining that they cut out a lot of the manga need to realize that movies tend to do this and that isn’t bad. The animation and music were amazing! If I were them I do it like this: Movie: karasuno vs kammodai OVA: fukoridnoai game Movie: Hinata in Brazil Movie: hinata vs kageyama Pro game. I can only hope
The Jackals match can be condensed. With entire points taking at least a chapter. This could get really boring in an animated format and could easily be condensed to show everyone watching the match together and to get the good points still in. I know people won't like that, but its probably whats going to happen. 35-45 minutes for Kamomedai match, 15 minutes Brazil, 10-15 minutes Jackals & Olympic scene. Does it feel short? Yes, and I'd love a S5. At this point we're not getting that though.
I honestly wouldnt mind if they cut some of the matches short. We've seen plenty of matches in the anime, and I found some scenes in season 4 to get a bit repetitive. Honestly, the most I remember from the manga is the brazil arc, further character development with where everyone ended up in the future, and the msby match. Honestly the characters themselves are what drew me to Haikyuu so much. I just hope they highlight the characters in the final movie. //Also maybe a controversial take: I wouldnt mind if the Kamomedai match ends up being just a flashback and we start off with Shoyou in Brazil
I was annoyed. I thought i was watching it in japanese with sub title but its fine. It could have been longer and not feel rushed. If it was longer it would have been better. It doesn't have the same vibe or feel like when you watch the series
I’ve been going back and forth on this, but I think they’d show kamomedai for 45 mins, 15 Brazil (mix in some flashbacks) to the rest of the Jacks game. End credit is just all the people doing their own jobs and the end is Oikawa and Olympics. I hate they’d cut any of it (loved it all) but it happens.
Literally best match in haikyuu, cut to just 45 minutes is fucking criminal 💀 Shiratorizawa match is 10 episodes long, which is roughly 200 minutes and it felt just right and kamomedai match is just slightly shorter so i can't imagine it being not even an hour long. Man I wish they change their plans about the movies, cause it is going tokyo ghoul route rn.
its a shame that they rush the series final like that so many character interactions and great moments get lost for movie watchers i hate that every anime continues or finishes their series with a movie for a quick cash grab
Afaik the next movie is called final part 1 but hey that might be just bad translation from the site I read about it or I might have misunderstood it. Fingers crossed it's two movies or one very big 3.5/4 hour movie
Money probably. Studios are only afforded so much money to make a final product. They probably thought it would be better to put all their money and effort into a shorter film to maintain quality throughout. Otherwise they would possibly have to stretch out a budget only capable of producing a 1.25 hour film into a 2 hour film. While I’d prefer a 2 hour movie, I can see why it likely ended up the length it was
Imagine after the Kamomedai match, it's gonna receive The Promised Neverland S2 treatment where the last chapters are just gonna be panels in a slideshow
I think what they did was great. The movie was beautiful, and personally I was really disappointed with season 4 of haikyuu because of the animation quality and pacing. I've read the manga, and I think Haikyuu is one of those series that can have a faster pace considering the nature of the sport of volleyball itself. I think anyone who thinks that season 5 would've been a great idea really just don't know what they want, finishing through the manga and everything I think Haikyuu's nationals saga deserves better budget than what the anime had and making it into a movie was probably the way they could make it happen.
A single game of real life volleyball is longer than that movie... The anime spent so much time building up the inevitable dumpster battle and then it’s forced into a 90 minute package
I've been ranting, I don't like how much they skip, too many flashbacks, but I left the cinema unbelievably happy with what I watched, I never felt that with any movie
A much more casual video than usual, just having a discussion around the final movie and what's left to come. Shoutout to my old laptop I last used at Uni that somehow managed to run premiere pro and survive (did sound like a jet engine at times though lol).

Have you watched the movie yet? I wouldn't say it was fine pasing wise
Do you think the chances of a third film might be higher due to the success of this movie?
@@annahdz4614 i dunno it didnt seem all that bad. been a while since i read but there wasnt a whole lot cut and it did a pretty good job of showing the match.
watch the movie yet?
Not making a season 5 of haikyuu was a mistake from the beginning
For us atleast
they need budget.. remember wht they've been through in season 4?. That's why I think it's fair this nekoma match turned into a movie. Even tho I still preferred 100% the anime pace over the movie pace, it is what it is.. Now that the movie making so much profit, I have faith the rest of the manga would be done justice.
it could have been a s5 and the final movie where they show us the final match and the olympic stuff but anyways we can't do anything
@@iDakk96 your point?
it's kinda amazing how the manga has some of the best sport matches i have seen, and some great anime episodes, and the studio decides to say "fuck it, 2 movies"
Not just that but is globally acclaimed one of the best if not the best sports anime ever
And they still did the damn movie, unbelievable
I think it's because studio might be overwhelmed with work, and they can't give it enough time. Like last season 4 was full with lower quality animation from another studio, even in some of the important matches.
@@NikolaNevenov86honestly, i think the fans can wait a 1-1.5 years for a good quality series. i feel like they could do something about it.
DO A ROLLING THUNDER IN A TOURNAMENT AND POST IT ON YOUR TH-cam
There is so much technique taught through the manga. So much detail. Haikyuu is the encyclopedia for Volleyball in my opinion. You can learn concepts and techniques quicker (at least you start to understand them) before anyone in real life tells them to you. Honestly, every coach has his own approach to the sport, so most of the time you won't even hear about certain concepts...and you'll miss out. Reading the Haikyuu manga (and watching the anime) just makes you a slightly better Volleyball player compared to if you didn't read/watch it. Haikyuu is just that complete. An encyclopedia.
Movie 1: Nekoma
Movie 2: Kamomedai
OVA/mini season: Brazil
Movie 3: Jackals (post credits olympics)
Easy math
what about bokuto match?
There's no indication so far that there will be an OVA or a 3rd movie, in fact it was explicitly stated that these two movies would serve as the finale of the series, sure you have the example of Attack on Titans having like 25 final seasons but that's an exception, so there's nothing guaranteeing that there will be more Haikyu!! anime, that's why it's worrying that unless the announcement was a marketing lie, all that there's left is a 1.5 to 2 hour movie to adapt whatever they can fit in there.
If they were gonna do another OVA or a 3rd movie, they would’ve said
have you watch his points that next movie can't be just Kamomedai? it will not do well in theaters seeing an ending that Karasuno lose
@JSSRTU27 Attack on Titan didn't and it still got split up a bunch
perfect timing I just watched the movie today. It was good, very good but it could have been on that legendary level if it got more time to cook (I watched in the cinema btw as its being released outside of japan now).
this is so true
How to watch?
@@Eren_yeager291 I watched it in the cinema
Yeah honestly it was great but if they hadn’t cut out some parts it could’ve also been another legendary match. I wish they weren’t making these bad choices
i am kinda disappointed about it as it missed a lot of details. but it got to the main ones. It's bitter sweet for me
Just got home from watching it, and it's a love-hate relationship.
Yeah. 2 movies and no special episode is crazy
agreed!!
Missing scenes?? There was one core scene that was missing, which was Ukai and Nekomata as kids. And you can barely argue the 1 page flashback of Inuoka was integral.
When you look at the structural storytelling of how the film will go, Hinata becoming the ultimate decoy, getting sick and the team losing, Hinata growing his skills in Brazil to ultimately make it in the big leagues.
@@Unknown-wi9ds if going by the Dumpster battle film, that isn't a problem. Same director.
I’d probably give it a 7/8 out of 10
To be honest, I am hopeful that, just like Demon Slayer, and the Mugen train movie, that it might be adaptated into some episodes and expanded upon
It may be just me being naive, but there is still a chance. :)
I wish too!
This is the logical step in my opinion. They shafted Asahi soo bad in this movie and unlike the other games I think this was one of his best moments
I watched movie today. I had almost crying and so much goosebumps but... They literally CUT a lot of chapters from manga. 2.8min/chapter and some of these were cut....
Yea, the movie was great but they cut a lot of great stuff that would have been great to see and honestly does a lot for other characters development.
me 2 !!!!!
The movie definitely felt weird with the amount of stuff that was cut. Seen it today as well and honestly I'm more worried than ever for the rest of the series
@@therealnmsis Everyone keeps saying stuff was cut but WHAT stuff did it cut that was super important and/or needed for the story
Did they cut the kenma and kuro backstory ? Cause i really loved that part
@@id.est.yasss so true. Many parts were left unanimated
@@ChanceGuevaracinemas?
The next movie will probably only be the komomedia match and not include the time skip or the black jackal match. It would be nice if they included the bokuto match
isn't it confirmed that the next movie will be the last?
even if it only include kamomedai match, that means that the time skip and MSBY match will never be animated
they'd at least include the last pages tho right? like the team jp part
No way will they just have the kamomedai arc, it literally ends with hinata leaving and we don't really even see the rest of the match. Talk about a bummer of a movie
i personally think (if they don’t do Bokuto’s match OVA) they’ll do the komendai match and probably end the movie with the brazil arc
Bokuto match probably OVA
I just saw the movie yesterday. I got the earliest tickets I could find. I watched with my sister who loves haikyuu as well. She thought it was great, as did I. However, I did feel it was a bit short, just a bit. I don't read the manga, but I do feel it differently paced from the anime.
Yes it's quite short. I won't mind them doing the AOT route of squeezing the content out of us 😭
if you read the manga then you might not like the movie much
Where can I watch haikyuu movie except theatre
@@kongking2447 it just came to the U.S yesterday so you'll have to wait
Its closer in feeling to the Date Tech season 1 match than the other big games in the series. when each set felt like a single episode length it was going to feel short in comparison to even how blessed we felt after the Aoba Josai game. As a manga reader I personally feel it was a good movie but at the same time It made me more worried about future movies than confident
I just saw the movie, and I was NOT disappointed!!
I don't know why they are doing this to Haikyuu when it is obvious one of their biggest fish of the industry
I hate this trend of converting seasons into movies
I was talking to a friend and we suspected it’ll end at kamomedai with everything else just showing up as a flash montage at the end… everyone I’ve talked to has been hoping it’ll pull a demon slayer and release an actual season for these arcs after the movies and flesh everything out more especially after the success we saw in this movie.
I’ve seen the movie twice and it was pretty enjoyable. However, 85 minutes was criminal.
Thinking about the next movie is painful tbh, I love Haikyuu so much and I would’ve wanted 10 more seasons
Hopefully they will make the next movie longer, and they will be able to streamline the story properly, without losing it’s essence
I’m still very sad about the course they chose
A fill season 5 with Nekoma and Kamomedai would have been ideal, and then a post time skip movie if not a season 6
You should go to the manga and read everything after the inarizaki match. At this point you can appreciate what you missed
@@kenchandrasena2070 yeah after watching the movie yesterday, thats what I plan to do. Even though I liked the movie a lot, I feel like reading the manga would give me a much better experience. It's still just sad to see my favourite anime not coming to a proper conclusion after such a long wait.

Dang dude I wasn’t expecting your video on this out so soon lol
I agree with you 100%
I just came back from the cinema and even though im a die hard haikyuu fan, i got similar feelings.
Go watch Kuroko then. The movie is amazing and I bet the next one will be even better. Haikyuu die hard fan here. 🙂
I still enjoyed it but the long wait since the last season to the release of this movie made the anticipation hard to match and unfortunately didnt do it for me
Finally, the movie got released here in my country this week and finally I can watch your video without getting spoiled ^^;
_Although I did read the manga countless times and know the lines by heart..._ but I didn't know what would be covered.
I'm thinking the next movie will be the next match + a short follow up to show the olympic team
I imagine hoishumi says his iconic "i'll be waiting for you" and we'll get an anime original "I'm here" but at the olympics
given run time I can only hope
I'm guessing they'll take 90% of the time to do the Kamomedai match and do the post time-skip as if it was something like a "post-credits" scene, possibly ending at the start of the MSBY x Jackals match the same way that the manga ends at the start of the Olympics match. Or maybe they'll just skip that match entirely, who knows?
To me, the movie was extremes
I loved it and I hated it
I hated it because the movie was trying to fit 35 (manga episodes?) into an hour and a half.
Movie for Brazil + Jackals vs Adlers
the movie isn’t out in my country so i wonder how much i’ll be waiting 💔
I know it's not gonna happen, but my ideal scenario:
- Short 10-epidode season with Kamomedai vs Karasuno match and Fukurodani match
(mini flash-forward to Brazil at the very end)
One week after the last episode airs:
- 2nd Movie drops covering Brazil arc (about one third of runtime), MSBY vs Adlers, and Olympics (just the last minutes)
That'd be nice, but yeah unfortunately unlikely :(
I'll watch the Garbage Dump movie soon (probably at monday).
HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD, ANYONE WHO WANTS TO AVOID THEM, BE CAREFUL:
It's sad to think about not having the Fukurodani match, Bokuto's development there is awesome.
Three movies is not enough. We needed at LEAST a full season. This is really sad
@@rainbowbarfeverywhere They will see how well the movie did and either do a trilogy or have an extra season after the next movie.
Whys it obvious? I've not seen anything suggesting that
I don’t understand why they don’t just either make more movies or had normal seasons hell even longer movies
it’s such a shame they’ll prolly cut the fukurodani match. akaashi is one of my favorite characters and it just devastates me to know that his character development in that match won’t get shown
Yeah I've heard a few people say this
this is also my concern as well, im not sure who proposed making it into two movies but i hope they regret going forward with this decision. im worried they will rush through the national arc and go into ts or just do national arc and that's it
i really hope like you said they will do 2hrs for the second movie and maybe a small glimpse of ts... really want to see the miya twins, omi, etc to all be animated
As someone who only read the manga after the ending of the nekoma game (like only those remaining chapters and nothing else), can anyone give me a brief rundown of stuff that was cut? Just curious
I thought about watching the movie today, but now I'm unsure. I love haikyuu, yet the manga may do the story more justice.
@Lessons From Anime I love your content bro, its refreshing
its still worth it
its still super worth it! its still soo amazing. i don't really have any problems with the pacing. the story telling in the movie is still sooo beautiful and enjoyable. i watched it 3 times it's sooo fun!
🧡🧡🧡💯💯💯
@@JmanAnimates TRUE!🔥💯
STOP DOUBTING AND GO WATCH IT!
This is kinda like what they did with promised neverland if u think ab it ngl. Rushing stuff, The Haikyuu movie is either going to rush or miss arcs
i rejust literally finished watching it lmao. as a manga reader, the pacing was definitely fast. but if you are an anime only, i feel like then pacing will be alright. thats all i could say.
I watched the movie yesterday and love it, however it left me wanting more.
they can do a oikawa journey after he loses to karasuno and goes to argentina and then join it with the hinata brazil arc for a movie
oikawa is so very beloved and interesting character it MIGHT work?
if we get 3 movies ofc
I'm also scared of it, as the manga still had so many good scenes in those parts, and seeing some missing, especially at time-skip, would suck.
fairly certain i seen an animator talking about how they are adding scenes from things we didnt see in the timeskip eg things from hinatas 2nd and 3rd year at karasuno
(I can't watch the first and second cause I have Netflix)
So let Kamomedai get a movie for its own! And then do a timeskip movie. I haven't been able to go see the dumpster battle cause of being busy but it's absolute bs that we might get a movie with 76 chapters where each chapter only gets 1.2 MINUTES OF SCREEN TIME!!!
Don't think you're gonna get any hate for this lol
They did the same thing for the stage play. Everything after the Nekoma match was crammed into the final play. Haikyuu Stage is already a much more condensed version, but fans were still complaining about it so much. Haikyuu Stage was wildly popular (with fans even flying in internationally), so it was never a matter of lacking interest or funds. So their plans for the second film is not a surprise but still largely frustrating. I want to hope that they change their minds but what's announced has been announced. I don't want to hold up hope and be disappointed for something that was never expected to happen.
Ooh I didn't know that, doesn't sound good
my preference would be next kamomadai match as a movie and bokuto's match and brazil to a full season would be justice to the fans
cutting the jp v argentina olympics game after what happened at/with the jp v argentina olympic match literally this year would be CRAZYYYYY
Can you please tell me who win ? Is it Nekoma Or Karasuno?
@@tungtungtung69 Karasuno will win and play the next match, Karasuno vs Kamomedai
@@Sadf430 Tysm! ❤
i got this feeling this feeling that 2nd movie, at best, they will end it at the beginning jackals, specifically the "IM HERE" [4:31]
Can someone please tell me if there's a next movie of haikyuu comming up ? Or should i watch this in theatres to be on the safe side?
A next movie? What'd you mean?
Sticking a spoiler warning on the top for anyone who's yet to see the film, as i realised my feelings give a lot away:
I'm going to check out before the spoilers (I know the general gist of the future chapters but want to wait).
Damn this actually seems possible that they'd do that
I really do think they just HAVE to give us another film tho
In short if your an anime only I implore you to go and read the manga in order to get the full experience with nothing cut
I kind of accepted this when it was first announced but now I'm fully aware that there's no way bokuto's match is gonna get adapted.
Never been to theater in 5+ years came back because of Haikyuu, every milliseconds is worth it
I dont think theyll make Brazil and Jackals into a movie. I think at most itll be a mini series
Praying for the dream scenario 🙏
They could release the last movie in two parts like how they do with all the popular series. Like the rest of the nationals in Part I with a sneak peek into Brazil scenes and all the remaining flashforward scenes in Part II. But we all know they won’t 😭
I pray they do
Brazil Arc is one of the best arc of haikyuu for me. They better include it atleast a little bit 🙏🏽
If I were them I do it like this:
Movie: karasuno vs kammodai
OVA: fukoridnoai game
Movie: Hinata in Brazil
Movie: hinata vs kageyama Pro game.
That’s why I really want like a final series to come into play! Like just for the final arc!! AGHHH 😭😭😭
I think it’s fair to assume that “FINAL” means the final matches of Nationals. The whole time skip arc will probably have its own season lol
I hope so!
Afaik the next movie is called final part 1 but hey that might be just bad translation from the site I read about it or I might have misunderstood it. Fingers crossed it's two movies or one very big 3.5/4 hour movie
What I don't understand is why the movie couldn't of been 2 hours? What were they in a time crunch for?
Money probably. Studios are only afforded so much money to make a final product. They probably thought it would be better to put all their money and effort into a shorter film to maintain quality throughout. Otherwise they would possibly have to stretch out a budget only capable of producing a 1.25 hour film into a 2 hour film. While I’d prefer a 2 hour movie, I can see why it likely ended up the length it was
Imagine after the Kamomedai match, it's gonna receive The Promised Neverland S2 treatment where the last chapters are just gonna be panels in a slideshow
Unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me
I think what they did was great.
Sams
