Blue Bike Lift

  • So many have asked about my Bike lift. Here is a little video showing how it works. I think it is true to say that a motorbike table lift is probably much easier but when not in use they take up so much room in a home garage. Have a look at some of the sunken ones on TH-cam, they are just the ultimate but of course the investment is enormous and never justified unless you are a professional, (probably not even then!). The Blue Bike lift tucks away under my bench with just the upright part showing. It is on wheels so I can move it anywhere....it works for me. I initially bought it to build a cafe racer from frame up, but so very useful for servicing my RT1200LC.

    Thanks for the excellent video - I'm looking for a lift for my GS, and while a few stands promise to be the answer to my prayer, this demonstrates it. I like the simplicity of the mechanical screw lift, too.

    Hi Norm, yes I agree they are a great lift. I bought one when I had a Harley. As you say, they are very safe , but for extra safety I used to run a ratchet strap around the bike. Sold mine when I sold the Harley and regret it now.

      David Couling Hi David, your ratchet strap is a good idea, especially with these heavy bikes. Will give extra peace of mind🤗

    Hi Norman. Is there a knack to adjusting the bike grab? I’m struggling to get the GS to stand upright and stable. I had no problem with the Harley, but the narrower taller wheel is giving me problems. Any tips much appreciated

      Hi David, I am not sure 🤔. Normally with a different bike I just open the gap, run the bike onto the Grab with someone to steady it, and then clamp the sides. Sometimes once I get the position I wheel the bike out and lock the side plates a little tighter and then squeeze the wheel in.
      When I did this video I got a telephone call from David the owner of On-Bike in Tamworth 01827 61754 who told me I was setting my bike up wrong on the lift. He sent me a picture and for the first time this week I have done it correctly🤷🏼‍♂️.
      He is a great guy and will advise you.

    Hi Norm I have a r1200gs lc would the adapter you have made for the RT lc work on my GS? My GS is a2018 model

    • @normski3091
      @normski3091  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Arfon, I am so sorry I have only just seen your comment. Yes I am sure the adapter would work, cannot really say until the lift slides under the bike and you take the ‘forks’ of the lift up to the bottom of the engine and the foot rests. Then it is easy to see what to use to lift the bike on the level. It is so perfect for the old GS but with the path of the header pipes changed everything😱. If you live close to me (Chesterfield, Derbyshire) you are always welcome to ride by, we will know in 5 minutes what is possible. Norman

    Thinking about one of these or an Abba. I had a ramp took up too much room in my single car french garage with 2 bikes in it. I gave it to a pal saying he could keep it so long as I could use when necessary. Wanted to use it for changing the camshaft next week sometime and he told me he gave it to his son in law last year ; it is in Montpelier 800 kilometres from here.&&*****8888. hey ho!

      Hi Paul, Yes I wanted a full lift but too big. This is a lot more difficult than just riding the bike onto it but at least afterwards it just tucks under the bench. Not cheap but none of them are. If you come to pick one up we are about an hour away and a good coffee and a visit to CMC Motorbikes (around the corner) will be waiting!

      @@normski3091 Well that trip might have happened , and thank you for the coffee offer, but I think delivery is more likely given covid situation. We are"confine" (with an accent on last e but not on YOUTuBE!) From midnight we are locked down till December 1 in an effort to stall the virus. My BMW special tools are still not at dealership ordered last Saturday!! I may have to put my Normski hat on. Where there's a will there's a way. It would not be the first time. Good luck with the weather.

      @@mototakahe836 Afternoon Paul, Yes we were watching what was happening with covid in France....not good, but we are catching up fast. My sister in Southern Spain is also in lock down as is my son and his wife in Johannesburg. We have just had lunch and I showed Heather, my wife, your Goldwing part 2 TH-cam.....she was more stressed out than you. A few years back our wonderful Garmin took us offroad in Central Spain for about 8 miles on my previous RT......even though it was programmed No Unpaved roads. Didn't think Heather would ever ride pillion again, cannot believe I never dropped it.

      @@mototakahe836 Hi Paul, Thank you for watching all my video's, you will sleep for a week now. I will be interested to hear how you get on with your camshaft. I have played guitar all my life, used to play professionally back in the late 60's early 70's. Last year i signed up for Jon Schuker, a famous guitar builder in the Peak District. He does 5 day guitar building courses. I started on Monday morning with three lumps of wood and on Friday took home the best Bass guitar I have ever owned. Problem is the band I was playing with has packed up during the lock down and the lead guitarist has moved to Wales. Look on Jon's website, under courses and he has pictures of all the people who have made guitars.....see if you can find me!!

      Hi Steve, Often I get down on my hands and knees, just quicker. If it is a big job then worth all the effort. I watch the guys with full benches and it is so quick and easy, but if I had one in the middle of my garage I couldn't do anything else, so the Big Blue Lift is certainly worth it!

      Really sorry but I sold the lift two years ago so cannot measure it. However it is certainly strong enough. Lifted my RT and GS with no effort at all. The engineer who designed it is a great guy, makes them himself at his factory. They lift Harley’s no problem at all.🤩
