The DrivenByMoss extension really changed (in a good way) the way I use the X-Touch with Reaper. It went from being a nice control surface to a really great, very usable control surface. I'd go so far as saying it revolutionised the way I use both it and Reaper, speeding up my workflow in countless ways. Jorgen has put so much work into this. There are so many little touches he has thought of that make all the difference. And as others have said, he listens to user feedback and implements suggestions. (The recent Alt, Opt, Shift + Press for min, max and middle being a good example).
AWESOME! Those modifier keys were implemented based off a feature request I suggested. They are a huge help especially if you use Waves StudioRack. I’m happy to hear that they were helpful for others.
YO!! I’m so happy to see someone giving DrivinBYMoss some love. I love this implantation for X-Touch sooo much. Jorgen is also a very cool guy who listens to user feedback and will implement what he can. For instance, on the Plugin Page, I’d requested that it would be really powerful to allow the modifiers (Alt, Crtl, Opt) to be utilized to expand a page’s parameters from 8 to 32 options. And also requested to allow a custom default setting to be used, so when button pressing a knob it wouldn’t just reset to 0. This wasn’t fully possible, but what he did was combine the two request, and make it so that the modifier keys now give different behaviors to the button push reset. •Pressing the knob goes to 0 or the lowest range. •Holding ALT and pressing it goes to the full value. •And holding SHIFT pressing goes to the middle value. This is super powerful for button press parameters. Alt and a button press enables, and just a button press disables. Also, very powerful for WAVES STUDIO RACK macros. Especially now that Waves open it up to all VST3 plugins. Dope video. Jorgen’s the man. Reaper/X-Touch/DrivenByMoss/ is what I’m rocking with and it’s been game changing for me.
@@leirumanuel It’s really more of a limitation than an issue. So, I doubt there will ever be a resolution in DrivenBYMoss. That said, there are other ways that the end user can skirt this limitation. For instance, you can take advantage of the free StudioRack VST plug-in from Waves. This has 8 macro knobs that can be assigned to multiple parameters. If you have common mix practices you do all the time, create a preset for them in StudioRack. Then making macro level adjustments to the mix becomes effortless and super fast.
I just got the controller for Christmas and installed the DrivenByMoss extension and this video helped me setup custom parameters and get going quickly. thanks
Thank you for the doing this series, I almost sold my X-Touch after switching from Logic to Reaper, this brought it to life and is now working better than it ever did with Logic
wow. Thank you for that excellent and informative video. I have been using the xtouch for a while. I have been using the Control Surface Integrator. It works pretty good. But I don't have all the options that you have demonstrated. In fairness, the CSI may well be capable of all of that, and I just don't know how to implement them. I was happy to get faders, pan, play, stop, and record.
I ended up buying 3 extenders and they work beautifully together. returned my xtouch cuz it was taking up extra space and I could get by without the xtra buttons. I just need flying faders.oh and for my plugins I have a "MIDI fighter twister" coupled with a stream deck for full control. I love the "Twister". theres nothing like having physical knobs
I agree that this seems like a very good option, but watching your first video ("learning the x-touch") I was already sold on getting the x-touch and using it with CSI. 🤓
I use the driven by moss extension on my xtouch. I confess I wish the scrub button would actually allow the jog wheel to scrub instead of jumping grid line to grid line. I use my stream deck and xtouch to really dial in my workflow (a never ending task). I used the Klinke extension for a very long time before finding driven by moss, so will be interested in seeing your review of it also.
What is your experience with the xtouch over the time you have owned and used it? Do you recommend it... Any issues with fader noise or repair? Any issues with driver reliability etc? Thanks for this series 💪⚡

Thanks for you work on this! I bought an X-Touch a while ago but the options to run it were very limited then - this seems much better. Question: the faders on my X-Touch are very jerky when used in automation - did you have this? did you change something as your faders seem very smooth. Thanks
The only thing I changed was setting the fader range to +10 in reaper, but I don't think that will change the smoothness, just aligns the fader with the markings.
Hi Jon, first off, thanks for everything you do, you're certainly a Reaper blessing! I have an X-Touch with the DrivenByMoss extension installed, it's been working well for me for months. My question is: for a given MIDI track is there a way to assign midi cc 07 volume MSB to the x-touch encoder knob of that track?
I dow loaded the driven by moss extention but I have to be doing something wrong. the volume or track or e.q buttons don't light up at all. I have it set to select track when I touch fader and that is also not working.
Oh the folder hierarchy function and the plugin browser look amazing! Disappointing that you can't use the knobs and the faders for separate plugin parameters, though :( In particular I'd like to have EQs set up so the dials control frequency of each band and the corresponding faders control the gain.
everything works fine, but the tracks are not colored at all on x-touch (. This option is enabled in the configuration.. What could be the problem? (sorry, google translate)
Hi there! Just wondering if it's possibly you can do a video about the Reasonus script for using the PreSonus fader port 16? Love your channel. Keep up the great work. Thanks! 😊
Hi John, thank you so much for sharing the info. Much appreciated it! A quick question, I have set up the hierarcie the same as you did in the example but when I double tab on Select, it doesn't open the track folder. The button select doesn't work at all either. Any idea why? I disabled all the midi in and output at the Reaper devices because when I enable it, the play button doesn't work and stops playing when I move my finger away from the play button. [edit] I found the issue, it didn't work cause I removed the Mackie Universal Control at Reaper but the problem is, when I create it there, the play button doesn't work like described above. Any idea how to fix this?[edit] Never mind, it seem to work after I recreated the profile. A bit weird though.
I for the life of me can't tell if thw extension is working. I just got the x touch. Using reaper latest version. None of my encoder buttons to light up? They do nothing. Any ideas?
I know the xtouch looks way cooler and is much more expensive but is it a significant improvement over the bcf2000 you had? I thought about buying a used bcf2000 but even as its cheap I dont want to waste money if its not great.
only downside of the x-touch universal is size, very big. bcf had noisy faders, no touch mode, no screens, no usb hub, and a lot less buttons. The BCF is not terrible, I was happy with it till I broke it, but x-touch is clearly better in every way. That said, its a nice convenience and not something critical to mixing. it makes a couple parts of a mix easier and is unused most other times.
@TheREAPERBlog Thanks for replying. I mostly want a controller just for volume automation and envelopes. It's been on a list to buy for the past two years but I'm always turned away by the price or age of used ones.
I just got mine with one extender set up today. ❤. Fire.. I tried csi. I liked the ability to adjust the knows sensitivity, the eq mode is fire just wish I could pick the eq😅, and the slect button toggles the folder collapse. Oh and it has a light blue color that the csi extension did not.
it works now . Thanks a lot. Very good work, but when I move the faders, they offer a bit of resistance. They are not fluid. Is it because of some option that I have to configure?
Is the issue with plugins solved? I mean. If you need to press 5 times to have the plugins parameters available on the screens ... this bug I don't like at all. I would not consider to use this extension just because of this. What I like is track colors plus hierarqical folders, but maybe for Windows I would try Kinkle or CSI. When are you filming CSI?
