I’m an MRI tech, this is how it goes where I work except we have nurses that push the gel for you unless you prefer to do it yourself. It is ultrasound gel that we keep in a warmer. We give you a diaper and also have an absorbent mat under you. You’ll go in feet first with your feet slightly elevated. Scans are done at rest, while you bear down, and then dynamically while you attempt to void. Many of our patients having this exam are also not aware of what’s in store for them when they arrive so it is good you called ahead to clarify

Hi I just found this video and I have to have this done too. Anxious. Want to cancel. It is next week. You said you wondered if you NOT being able to excrete it out while on table would be able to still give your dr enough information...or make it a wasted test? I wonder the same thing if I can't (since you are lying on a table - probably knees up right? ) I can't imagine going through this and then not getting information needed because you aren't able to have the "BM" defecate because you are basically pooping in your pants and just the thought of that makes you not want to go. Please let me know as by now you should know what the dr thought. IF HE WAS ABLE TO GET ENOUGH INFO I mean. THank you!
gurl :) you did great with this video ...and thank you so much....i have to go to the doctor tomorrow.....and this test might be in my very near future.....so again...thank you so much....
I can't thank you enough for this video! I'm having this MRI tomorrow evening and I'm so stressed! I have EDS as well and my colon motility is getting so bad. I've failed motegrity and linzess, so we are discussing total colectomy at this point :/ Feel for you and appreciate you!!
I’m about to have this test (except with fluoroscopy rather than MRI). I had an appointment with the doctor to ask questions beforehand and learned a fun fact: at my hospital, for the contrast, they use barium mixed with MASHED POTATOES. Anyway, thanks again for this video, it really helped!
@@samiyahleanne i’ve had both before and they really are not that bad! when i had mine done (both at the same time), i was asleep under general anesthesia which made things pretty chill. at the bare minimum, you’ll be heavily sedated to the point where you feel comfortable but they do most of those procedures under general anesthesia these days so i wouldn’t even worry about that. endoscopy doesn’t really require prep besides not eating and after i woke up, the only thing i noticed was slight throat irritation (from the endoscope) for a couple hours, nothing painful and really not a big deal. the colonoscopy procedure itself is nothing, the prep is the daunting part. don’t worry about feeling hungry, once you start the prep that feeling will go away. since you have to drink a lot of laxative-filled liquid really fast, you’ll probably end up feeling pretty full. follow your prep instructions but if you start to feel a little too full, it’s okay to take a break for a bit before continuing. i have gastroparesis so my stomach didn’t feel super great sometimes, but i was able to keep it all down and i didn’t feel close to getting sick or anything. i didnt finish all of the liquid cuz i didn’t wanna enter nausea land, but i was plenty cleaned out so it was okay. the clean out isn’t uncomfortable, you just gotta stay near a bathroom and let your body drain. to keep yourself calm and comfortable, do some self care or turn on the TV to make the experience as pleasant as possible between trips to the bathroom. my final tip is if you can, ask your doctor for some zofran before the procedure. anesthesia can cause post-operative nausea and zofran can help prevent that. once my procedures were done, i was a bit loopy but i felt totally fine. the effects of the laxatives had worn off and my life was back to normal. as kenna said, you got this!
@crabbyabby I've had a couple colonoscopies and endoscopy. But everytime I have incredible anxiety.
