    For you guys who are finding the R41 / Feather combo a touch too aggressive for you but find that dropping down the sharpness scale to say an Astra , Derby , Wilkinson Sword etc produces a less than optimal bbs , I would recommend trying the R41 / Bic blade ( manufactured in Greece ) combination , which for my part brings the best out of the razor without the added discomfort in running with the Feather blade.

    I had the same problem with the R 41 Feather combo. Switched to a Gillette Wikinson Sword made in India and got a very smooth shave.

      @@SinatraLennon I'm fairly sure that you have several aftershaves. My aftershave collection is growing. I currently put my aftershaves into one of two categories either morning or evening. When I shower & shave just for myself it is in the evening and I use something like Florida Water or Lilac Vegetal. When I shower & shave for other people it is in the morning and I use something that lasts longer. I was wondering if you categorized your aftershaves this way or by some other way like menthol, non-menthol or what you like the most and what you like the least or maybe the ones you like and the ones your wife likes you to wear or maybe by scents like florals, sandal woods, musks, ect...

    I´ve only been DE-shaving for a few weeks but I fell in love with Muehle R41. I only used a basic gillette blade with it. My experience with a feather blade is only with a R89 and even with that it felt too much for my skin, got a few good nicks with it. I think for me aggressive razor with just a basic run of the mill blade seems like the optimal combo. Shaving with the R41 was the first time I got even my problem areas (chin and neck) baby smooth and it wasn´t scary or hard at all. Happy new year 2023 to you SinatraLennon, your videos are always fun and informational to watch!

    Great video! There are multiple theories why the Mühle R41 is so unusually aggressive. Angle, exposure, blade barely aligned...they probably both contribute to its aggressiveness, plus the fact that there is no safety bar. Well, no open comb razor has a safety bar, but the R41 is not truly open comb, it has that "barbed wire" going over the comb, which was added when Version 3 (the current one) of the R41 came out. Version 2, which had an unsuspicious-looking open comb, was reportedly even more aggressive. I'm quite familiar with open combs, and I've shaved with mild and super-aggressive ones. The advantage of a closed comb is that the safety bar stretches the skin a bit to reduce pull. Open combs don't usually pull either, but, as I said, the R41 is a hybrid. It lets less moisture through than an open comb but does not stretch the skin, the barbed wire acts mostly like a guide to position the razor. -- The R41's reputation as "the beast" or "the shark from the Ore Mountains" is probably the reason why Mühle is still selling large numbers -- it's the thrill of using it or simply feeling like a man's man using the most aggressive razor ever made -- except it isn't. There are vintage razors that would eat the R41 for breakfast, like some open combs made by Fasan (Germany) or the Le Coq cage razor (France) -- literally shaped like a cage, with the back and the front comb forming a unit. The cage design was meant to trap lather and re-moisturize the skin. But there was a 21st century razor that really packed a punch, an open comb made by Roedter that has since been pulled from the shelves because too many buyers wanted their money back, claiming that the razor was faulty. By the way, I like the smell of Palmolive shaving cream, it reminds me of my grandfather. He used the canned version, though. "With palm extract" -- the good ole days when you could impress people with something like that. These days, it has to be shea butter, jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil or at least almond oil if you want people to believe your product is superior.

    • @SinatraLennon
      @SinatraLennon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So weird. The R41 still gives me the most comfortable shave out of all my razors. I don't find it to be aggressive at all, just very efficient. I also have a Merkur 37c which has given me terrible after terrible shave (close but uncomfortable) since I bought it.

It was an okay shave and the R41 didn't seem very agressive but I took it slow. Still as you say it's not a great shaving tool so probably more for my collection and discussion than one that will get regular use in my rotation. I shave daily so don't really need open comb and thankfully it was very cheap on ebay around a quarter of the price of the whole razor new.

    About the wimp out... ehhh we’ll let you slide with a goatee if you 👶🏻 out!!!
    Before I started Traditional WetShaving I always had a beard and if I wanted it shorter I just put a trimmer to it on its lowest setting, I really almost never used a razor lol yeah go for the goat homie 🐐 your beard would of looked better in my opinion if u would of left the sides thicker
    Thing for me... I ABSOLUTELY HATE MUSTACHES!! I tend to put a trimmer to it so you can still see stubble cause if I shaved it I’d look like a little Amish Boy lol 😆
    I think I’m going to shave mine off with my Shavette come December 1st was thinking about keeping it though

    Hey Mr. SinatraLennon,
    I want to send you a tube of shaving cream from my country(Austria), you may like it. But the problem is, I don't know how to send stuff to you. I literally have no idea... But if you're interested in some European (not exactly the most exclusive stuff, though) please tell me how to do so:)
    Keep making videos please, they're awesome! 😉

    For what it's worth (ie, next to nothing) here are my comments: 1. especially if you're not doing this anymore, might as well do it right--seems to me the spirit of the thing is to have a full beard. Fine to shave enough to keep things neat and tidy, but reducing to a goatee seems like cheating (mind you, I don't do any of it, so that's easy for me to say). 2. I find the combination of facial hair and food to be inherently and irredeemably gross, which is one of the reasons I don't keep any facial hair in the first place. Please do not use food products to shave the thing off--Barbasol would be fine. (And the Scotch aftershave is fine, because there's no hair there to get mixed in with after you've shaved.) These comments should not be taken as reflecting any great wisdom, just my own neuroses😊

    You should make a Franken croap: mush and smoosh together bit and bobs of soaps and creams for the debearding shave.

    The Muehle only works with Feathers for me. Any less aggressive blade, and I can't clean up all my problem spots. Imho, the Merkur Futur is more aggressive yet smoother and I get perfect shaves with any blades. Have you tried it yet?

    Yes, you are allowed to trim to goatee. And yes, Barbasol would work for the End of Movember. You sure go thru the shave swiftly considering the R41 is not very comfortable for you. I would opt for some really old vintage open comb razor instead of R41 though. That'd be more fun and interesting.
