I just put a gretsch rocking bridge that I ordered from Thoman on my G5422TG electromatic and what a difference compared to the stock “adjusto-matic” bridge. Love it. I was able to get it on the existing poles and base without filing but with some applied pressure. It is a very tight fit but works. The intonation is very good (not perfect) despite me putting heavy bottom skinny top 54-10 strings on it. I think with a standard set of 11s the intonation would probably be spot on.
Hi Ras, it's worth getting a rat tail file or Dremel, I had one that was tight and just opening the location holes up allowed the bar to rock properly. Is yours a fixed bridge base? 👍😎✌️
@@rapidotlussoguitar yes mine is a “pinned” bridge. I will try to get ahold a file a open it up a bit. But even with it fixed it is still a huge improvement😀
I put a vanson tunamatic roller bridge on my Electromatic and 6120TM really good. I also have a 6120DC with Bar bridge and a 6120AM with space control.
I have just bought a 2005 Gretch 6120 Brian Setzer. Can I get a True arc bridge in aluminium for that? Where did you buy yours? I cant seem to find any websites that carries them.
Hey man, I got mine from a company in the UK called f hole's,www.f-holes.co.uk/tru-arc/ Yes it will work perfectly on your guitar, you need to know the neck radius which I would assume is 9.5 but double check that. Thanks for the message and let me know how you get on. RT 😎👍🤟
I've got a question and I'm hoping you can help. I have a gretsch Annie. I absolutely adore this guitar!!! My problem is when I change strings and tune up, I suddenly start getting a pingy noise along with my normal string note sound. It's like the guitar is playing the note behind the bridge with overtones of the note from in front of the bridge. That plingy noise you would get if you plucked the string from the area between the bridge and the bigsby. I have a rocking bar bridge and I play 11's. Do you have any suggestions? It's been like this off and on since I first got it. I can't play anything above the fifth or sixth fret without the overtone. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hi Mike, a couple of questions first, How long have you had the Annie? Have you gone for heavier gauge string's? In the meantime I wouldn't worry it's most likely in need of a nut dressing and some neck tweaks. How is the tuning stability? 😎👍✨
@@rapidotlussoguitar I've had it a couple of years. It did it when I first got it. I tried putting .10 on it and then the overtones. I put .11 on it and a buddy of mine raised the bridge a little, stating it was probably the break angle on the string not being high enough, and it kinda went away.... or I didn't notice it near as much. I haven't really had any issues over the past couple of years. Then ... like an idiot, I tried .10 strings again and here it is... That plinky sound. So I cut the new strings straight off, thinking that it's just the .10 strings that are the problem, and put .11 back on it. My thinking was, it worked the first time, it should work again. That overtone noise was just as loud, if not louder with the .11 Guage strings. I've raised the bridge to the point it could almost be a dobro and it's still making the noise. I watched your video thinking maybe a roller bridge might help, or maybe it's the bridge that is the problem. I'm at a loss.
@@rapidotlussoguitar p.s. it stays in tune pretty well for a guitar with a bigsby. It'll only go out if I'm hammering on it... which happens when I get alittle excited onstage lol honestly, I would love to be able to play .10 strings on the guitar. If I can't, then I just want to be able to play it without the extra noise. It's a great guitar other than that one, big to me, issue. Sorry about the book I just wrote lol
@@mikemaysmusic5519 Hi Mike, some of the sitaring you are hearing could be pinching in the nut. Or could be bridge post alignment. Personally I'd take it to a good luthier and have the truss rod adjusted. Definitely go for 11 to 54 I think they are happy and sound great ( my opinion) After two years the body and neck will have settled and you'd be surprised at just how much the neck will move. I hope you get it sorted! Do let me know Best wishes 😎👍✨
@@mikemaysmusic5519 No problem Mike, again it could be pinching in the nut, could be poorly aligned saddle's there are many variables! Thanks for the video! I have an electromatic jet and want to upgrade the bridge. No intonation issues with the Tru-Arc? It seems like there's no way to adjust intonation with them. My jet bridge is drilled in the body.
Hi Esteban, I have rocking bar Bridge's on three Gretsches. No intonation issues. The G on the went slightly out...as the neck pulled. This was due to heavier string's all sorted now I've adjusted the truss rod. All mine are pinned including the Black phoenix. To me they all sound much better. 👍
@@rapidotlussoguitar Thank you for the reply! Great to know. I'm planning on getting one of these as I think it will be way, way better than the tune-o-matic that comes with the Electromatic series. Thanks again!
I have a Gretsch G5420T with a pinned bridge. Would like to replace the bridge with a better one, but what bridge do you recommend? Are there Gretsch rocking bar bridges that can be used on a Gretsch with a pinned bridge?
Morning Niekkie, yes there is. www.thomann.de/gb/gretsch_rocking_bar_bridge_chrome.htm?glp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwkYGVBhArEiwA4sZLuL3NqJ8n-YhM1QbDJzabWRsslkaJwSIcqOWfbuXo-rLwrT9-iWcQPRoCD1cQAvD_BwE I have these on two of mine. @@rapidotlussoguitar Hi, Thanks! Won't I have problems with the intonation of my Gretsch G5420T? I mean, there is nothing you can adjust except string height.
@@NiekkieNick Hi I've not had a problem on the Three Gretsch's I have these on. You could always file the hole where they locate to the base. Mine are all pretty bang on. Go for it and let me know. 😎👍✨

I recommend fitting a B6C Bigsby to an Electromatic 5120 or 5420 series. Improves tone and works nicely.
