I've read every book by Jon Krakaur that I've managed to get my hands on. I've never been disappointed by any of them.
I'm not a book reader by natural inclination. I'm neither a climber nor an adrenalin junkie. I am an American Warrior with an independent intellect, above averange intelligence and remarkably meager means. I am also a long hiker/bushcrafter where days count with me more than miles. When I read Krakaur's words about Tillman (especially) or Chris McCandles, I get it. I also get the resistance and even hostility that these two odd individuals experienced in their lives. I experience the same on most days of my life. A lifetime of books elaborating this rare personality phenomenon could be written, but I fear it would make litte difference. Krakaur's careful and profound paragraphs provide more than enough for those few who get it, but for the vast majority, no amount of words would be enough. For those masses, the books are fascinating, but they raise as many questions as they answer.
But to us few who prize freedom above all things, and yet do things that put our own personal freedom, even our very lives in jeopardy, Jon Krakaur's works are Tribute, an acknowledgement which, for me anyway is worth more than all my shiny medals and colorful ribbons.
    Thank you Jon
