    I was privileged as young man to participate in it's break in runs on the Winchester and Western in the late eighty's. At the time Working beside Bill Benson, Ross Rolling, Norman Stanley, it really didn't sink in until later years the opportunity I had. (Opportunity is wasted on the youth) ( I think I remember Normans name correctly). At the time I was a fireman on a 1925 built Baldwin 2-6-2 in Hartwell Ga, (oil burner ) and our engineer and crew chief, Robert Franzen Jr, called me one afternoon and said, hey, you wanna go to Maryland and work on a T1? Lol. We left that evening! Also remember it was on an Easter weekend. Good times.

    I remember climbing up on the 2100 in Richland, WA the very last time she was under steam. It was a hot mess to be kind. Water was pouring out of mud sheet by the gallon as there was a lot of rust pulling apart the bucked rivets. I'm glad that people who wanted to save it were able to get it and have the ability and funding to save her.

    I grew up in sugarcreek OH on the Ohio central from 93 to 03 when they were running steam, was down there every second I could with my mom, haven't had the ability to work for the railroad or anything but always been a huge passion and just love seeing steam, great video, happy holidays

    I really like the video setting! The bright lighting brings what might normally be dingy to life! The area looks like people are taking care in what they are doing. Thanks covering the Anthracite question. If it's a PA steam locomotive the question Ito me is if it was made to burn that special Pennsylvania coal anthracite noted to be smokeless. The speaker stated it was, but it does steam even better with bituminous coal!. I keep waiting for a steam locomotive that has gone the next conversion step to run on compressed natural gas. That would likely require a tanker car for the fuel. There would be no harmful emissions unlike burning home heating oil that does have a smell and is considered hazardous waste if spilled. It might be possible to get subsidies from natural gas companies promoting its clean altnetatitve.
    Greenhouse gases can't cause global warming because all the greenhouse radiant energy is completely absorbed by greenhouse gases in earth's greenhouse effect within 20 meters of the radiating surface, typically the earth. That is high school science and the United Nation's IPCC states in the back of its 200 page science report it took its greenhouse gas samples at 20,000 meters altitude. That is legal data transparency to mean it is not discussing active greenhouse gases. They have informed the interested reader they are not actually dealing with greenhouse gases in a manor related to global warming.

    We see the loose usage of the term rebuild to this day. In California, which has some very strict laws relating to building new homes on the beach side of Pacific Coast Highway, you in effect can't build a new house. So what is done, well they apply for a renovation permit. They then tear down most of the existing house and build a much bigger home, attached to the remaining building. Then a couple of years later, they apply for yet another renovation permit, tear down the rest of the old building and complete building the rest of the new house.

    It was not in a "siding" in Washington. It was stored in poor shape at the end of the line of an industrial spur. Yes is arrived as a running locomotive but it was not in great shape when I had seen her. Richland was actually a great spot to store it too as the weather in SE Washington St is very dry and hot with mild winters unlike western Washington where there's a lot of rain and trees to drop stuff onto and in the locomotive to rust. When she was on BNSF's main line coming over Stampede Pass she had a hot box under the locomotive. I can't remember if it was a lead truck or trailing truck bearing but it caused a problem and there was a delay which did not endear them to BNSF.

    • @nicholasuszko
      @nicholasuszko 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hotbox is a maintenance issue, not a ASR issue. Anything that weighsthat on the car could cause that. So BNSF is being pedantic.
