BLOWN AWAY: Paragliding safely in strong wind

  • Strong wind causes paragliding accidents. But is it always dangerous? Join Flybubble Paragliding as we compete on the 'Mini-dragon' hike and fly race in extreme conditions. Learn techniques to stay safe in the mountains when paragliding in strong wind (30km/h+).
This is not intended as a 'how to do it' but more of a 'see how it works' ... this sort of guidance is seldom shared by experienced pilots (for fear of someone doing something stupid) but we'd rather you have the knowledge so you are empowered. Choose what suits your flying skills and equipment. Treat strong wind with great respect!

Pushing/testing the limits without too much risk - AWESOME to see an instructor being open and realistic with risks instead of overly cautious

Once again some high quality, informative paragliding content from Greg. Thank you very much for your contribution to the paragliding scene! The value of your videos can't be overestimated.
    Thank you.

It was a great race. Congratulations for your win, Greg. It was way too strong for my B wing all day. I sat on Turnpoint 3 for about 2 hours hoping it would settle down a bit, but it never did. It was my only chance to make goal. It wasn't going to happen walking, that's for sure. Another great video as always.

yeah it was a pity the wind didn't ease, as forecast. that would have made the task very interesting.

VERY impressed that you chose the safer plowed field to land in rather than the almost irresistible “main landing field”!
VERY wise ..Thanks for your advice !

    I’m a fresh newbie
Great to see the reasoning for everything in the air.
Happy to take my time with my own progression
But really great to see what everyone else is doing and what they feel and why they do.
    Give me a year
Things will change and these videos help me
    Thanks Greg

Thanks so much for this Greg. It all seems so obvious when you talk us through it. Up in the air alone it always seems a lot more difficult with doubt and consequence always keeping you honest.
You and your team's other videos have been a huge help in my first year of flying 🇿🇦. Thanks so much 👍

Good Job Greg! Not easy flying in those conditions, but totally doable as you've so skillfully demonstrated. You also made sure we all understood the risks and need to understand your own limits as well as your wing's.

By the way, Dan didn't just have any old mini wing! The Air Design Susi 3 16m would have got him from the summit of Pen Allt Mawr to goal if he'd flown! (so Greg would still have won) Someone did a 50km triangle on the 13m version this summer :)

Massive thanks for the creation and sharing of this video. It good to know that I’ve kind of pick-up the same mindset as you when it comes to escape routes. Flying Snowdonia can be a real nightmare in strong conditions and in all honesty I’m super cautious. Sometimes I look at the wind as if it was water and the terrain being the river bed. With over 300+ PG flights in my back garden without a single accident, I must be doing something right but I feel that I’m way too cautious which can be annoying as it keeping me from evolving to a higher-level pilot like you. Again, thank you for sharing your professionalism. Excellent knowledge is key in this sport.

What do yo mean with "quick punch to the glider"? "Kill switch" do you mean to give the breaks a good wak to stall it suthenly?

    • @GroundCRow
      @GroundCRow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

There's a video linked in the description... He pulls a frontal collapse as soon as he's on the ground, then runs towards the glider pulling inthe brakes and aims for the glider fabric to hold on to.
