The whole panhandle, and nearby places are just rich with history. Ft. Robinson, Ft. Laramie, Oregon Trail, Black Hills, Custer Battlefield, Wounded Knee, Johnson County war, etc.

My last trip plan to Nebraska was this last August o North Platte Kearney and in between at Gottenberg to see the USPS pony express Great Platte River Road Archway Buffalo Bill house and Golden Spike Tower and small Locomotive Museum plus other things to see
