Very wonderful video. I really love roses, especially the great smelling ones. I was planting them and a pear tree in the lowest part of the yard, and none made it. I think it was because the drainage wasn't good. I found 2 of my favorite rose plants, Double Delight, which was rare and decided to try again. They had no sign of life and were bare root, so I wondered if it was a good idea. I built a small raised bed big enough to space them and mixed well draining soil with rose fertilizer and planted them. The roots looked fine, and in a week they sprouted. A month later I have lush green plants with buds on them. Very exciting. Can't wait to sniff one. Thanks for all your work. May the Lord continue blessing you and yours. Love you buddy, if we met you could be the best friend ever.
Definitely another inspirational video. We are slowly incorporating more into our garden. Definitely next year MUCH more companion planting which will mean a LOT more flowers, Thank You!
I planted David austin " new dawn" earlier in March! I had them yrs ago. Beautiful! Also im planting cosmos apricotta today too! How funny. They are just skinny ..but going in the ground. Ive been putting chili powder around young shoots. So far keeping critters away! Washington state.
You proved that gardening is so therapeutic by the way you handle your transplants ❤ I love caster beans! They are exotic, tropical looking, and easy to grow in containers. Thank you for the rose tour. David Austin's are so elegant and fragrant. 💞
I bought 3 of the self watering starting trays using you link. Great way to start seeds and happy with everything about them. The only problem is getting the started plant out for transplanting. Since the trays are rigid you can't squeeze the sides to loosen. They're hard to pull out even using the underside of the stand as instructed.
Beautiful roses. In my hot and humid climate I have better luck with Kordes roses. I just planted a Kiss Me Kate climbing rose that will have the pretty pink full blossom look similar to your The Alnrick Rose. Your cottage garden is really coming along nicely Brian!
I will need to try those seeds starting trays cuz i had a bit of trouble with the MANY MANY methods and seed starting mixes that I tried this year. I am still very new (gardening for only a year but first season starting everything from seed). I have had plenty of success too but also a number of fails. I had greatest tomato success with the formed coir blocks that got moved up into solo cups and the EPIC trays did amazingly well too. I may try getting the self watering mats to place underneath any of the method (except soil blocks maybe?) I use in the future. Ive also heard of people putting a few layers of cardboard under the soil trays so you can easily tell when it's gotten too dry but also helps from overwatering.
It’s wonderful to see how you plant your cosmos with such gentleness and precision. And it looks like you’re really enjoying the process. Excellent video - I learned a lot today and watched this video a couple of times. Please remind us what fertilizing mix of planting mix you’re using when planting your plants/flowers.
I love cosmos! They were one of my very first flowers I planted when I took up gardening during covid. They are a great confidence builder if you are new to gardening. :)
Great Video, I have learned a lot from watching your videos, Thank you so much and look forward to many more. I love your Cottage Garden and off course all the others an look forward to seeing the others completed also.
I got a bag of mixed meadow flower seeds from Lowe’s and they appear to have these cosmos in the mix and many other flowers.Nice flowers to grow and very colorful and deep. The others I had with them were very easy to transplant.Instead of eliminating the ones I didn’t want I simply popped them out the ground and transplanted them into some of the raised beds I have.I didn’t pay no mind much since it was a bag of ransoms from Lowe’s and I didn’t expect them to grow since I have bought other bags of stuff with no results but these presented.
I look forward to seeing how you hook this up to the auto-irrigation system...still trying to wrap my head around how to add extensions to existing irrigation. Thank you!
Beautiful roses! I used to love cosmos when I was little and then, I lost interest but I think I will get back to planting them! Have a blessed weekend Brian 💕🤗
My cosmo seed pack last year also said 3 feet. But, they grew to 12 feet. It was a great privacy screen. Except, the only thing(s) it blocked out, were my hibiscus plants... from the sun.😅
Wow, haven’t heard Castor bean in forever! I grew up in Manhattan Beach & we had huge, beautiful castor bean plants in a large planter along the side of our house. Cottage is looking so cute 👏👍 I know I’m weird, but I think DA roses looked deformed 😂
You really inspire me, Brian. I'm also working on making a new property 'mine,' not nearly as big a scale as yours, all the different projects and plans are a constantly growing to-do list, but it's all so very worth it!
Truth!!! Even anything green on an eggplant is poisonous to anyone! My rabbits still managed to eat a couple of leaves. But, he is doing fine. The garden has since been enclosed
David Austin roses are recommended planted deeper than we plant roses. I've planted a dozen now and they seem very happy with the graft lower. What is your opinion?
Have you thought about growing Jamaican sorrel. Planting for the first time. I have eaten the jelly and drunk the juice. Very delicious. Looking for advice.
Slightly off topic, but seeing you hand water reminded me: any suggestions on hose sprayer that won’t permanently adhere to hose? I don’t know if it’s incompatible metal or what, I assume so, but I’m going to have to cut the broken hose sprayer off my hose. I tried using a vice grip and even a blow torch to get it off. Then I saw my second hose had the same issue, so I’m going to have to cut my garden hoses and put a whole new end on them and buy new hose sprayers. I don’t want this to happen again… Any suggestions?
Flower Friday!! 🥳🥳 Perfect timing because I bought some cosmos starts and need to get them planted but I'll be planting in pots. Also, loved the Letter C theme. Reminded me of good old Sesame Street lol
Love the David Austin Roses! Question about the self watering trays❓ Do you think they’ll stand up to summer sun (9a CA) and not get brittle? Bought some but I have been starting seeds outside with the nice weather and haven’t taken these outside. Thank you for your help. 🙏🙏🙏
I have fig tree for last 5 years last year only 4 figs came. This year no fig I would like to know what should I do to get the fig fruit on this tree. Plz let me know. Thanks.
Scrub Jays, Stellar Jays, I call them all blue jays too even though I do know the difference. They are all part of the corvid family which includes jays, crows and ravens, all incredibly intelligent!
I haven't had much luck germinating or growing cosmos to a respectable size. I live in Deep South 9b and try to follow indications for germination temperature, location, not fertilizing with nitrogen etc. - but they just fizzle. The only ones that didn't were the Bonbon doubles which got very tall and dense with foliage but sparse and tiny blooms. What am I doing wrong?
I am in Growing zone 10 a Southern California. Where did you buy roses? I want to invest in some but I don’t know where to buy them next year. Thank you Brian.
Years ago, I grew castor bean plants, which were absolutely beautiful…i tried to germinate some this year, but I think the seed were duds…so disappointing.
I didn't dead head my Cosmos as often as I should have last year... The reseeded themselves everywhere 😂. I m mostly ok with it and can pluck the ones from the grass 😂😂😂
I want to be procrastiplanting where I don't have to pay the bills wash the dog vacuum the floor or do the dishes or even think about what's for supper I want to be in my garden
I grew Castor Beans one year and they were AMAZING!! My dogs are free rein in my garden area. Never a problem.

I bought two of the self watering trays. I started all my gerbera daisies and my Florida Everglade tomatoes. I love them.
Watching you plant is sheer happy therapy 😄. I especially enjoyed the accompanying music 🎶.
Definitely another inspirational video. We are slowly incorporating more into our garden. Definitely next year MUCH more companion planting which will mean a LOT more flowers, Thank You!
Love the Scottish tune❤️
"Anne Boleyn needs to be deadheaded." 🤣🤣🤪
Wow. I can’t get over the progress you’ve made in your English garden. It’s going to be a stunner.
I'm growing a new cosmos this year: it's called Cupcake because the petals are pleated like a cupcake paper. It's so cute!
I planted David austin " new dawn" earlier in March! I had them yrs ago. Beautiful! Also im planting cosmos apricotta today too! How funny. They are just skinny ..but going in the ground. Ive been putting chili powder around young shoots. So far keeping critters away!
Washington state.

It looks like the Rubinato Cosmo is a dwarf variety... fun! Gotta get me some of those.
Those roses are beautiful!!!

I love flower Friday 🌼 plus how flowers can be incorporated in all beds/garden space. Thank you so much for sharing all these beautiful varieties
Beautiful roses. In my hot and humid climate I have better luck with Kordes roses. I just planted a Kiss Me Kate climbing rose that will have the pretty pink full blossom look similar to your The Alnrick Rose. Your cottage garden is really coming along nicely Brian!
Thank you Brian. I have something tunneling under my annuals, so frustrating! 🌸💚🙃

Thanks! Neptune's Harvest crab and lobster and kelp meal
Do you ever miss hearing the rooster? I kinda do at times. Always made me smile.
Castor beans grow wild everywhere in the San DIego area. Loved the Irish music while planting the cosmos!
Time for some "B" - honeysuckle honeyberry, blueberry, huckleberry, gooseberry, currant berry, kiwi berry, goji berry (invasive), passionflower berry (passion fruit), dragon berry (spineless cactus dragon fruit), elderberry, lingon berry (land cranberry), wintergreen berry (Ben Gay smelling aspirin pain), and some outside perimeter mulberry trees.
Nice! I just received my 'Companion Planting' book yesterday- I'll be putting it to good use, B! 😁👍
It's going to be amazing. David Austin roses and that thatched roof. What an awesome job 👏!
I love cosmos! They were one of my very first flowers I planted when I took up gardening during covid. They are a great confidence builder if you are new to gardening. :)
Would love to see your method on Plumerias when you get to your tropical development. I’m growing one in a pot in Central Texas 8b/9a.
Black Cosmos is so pretty!
I plant castor beans around my garden to deter pocket gophers.
Your roses are beautiful! What do you do for black spot? I need to get some flowers iin with my veggies for sure
I found my seed starting kits, like yours, about 4 years ago from Burpees. Yes I love them also!
I love the pink salvia. I don't think I've ever seen that color before. What's the variety?
That’s funny, “Anne Boleyn needs to be deadheaded”.

Will you need to provide some sort of support for the rose to climb on?
Beautiful roses! I used to love cosmos when I was little and then, I lost interest but I think I will get back to planting them! Have a blessed weekend Brian 💕🤗
I have "Bright Lights" vibrant orange Cosmos bloomed inside my house in my rear bay window, they are amazing! :)
I'm loving flower Fridays! I always run out to the garden after I watch your videos 😆
Your garden is an inspiration. Is it true that caster bean plants repel gophers? I’m fighting them in my place too! 😡
Thatched roof is looking great! 🌸💚🙃
My cosmo seed pack last year also said 3 feet. But, they grew to 12 feet. It was a great privacy screen. Except, the only thing(s) it blocked out, were my hibiscus plants... from the sun.😅
Followed your video on dahlias. And mine are looking great. 1st time growing them
Wow, haven’t heard Castor bean in forever! I grew up in Manhattan Beach & we had huge, beautiful castor bean plants in a large planter along the side of our house. Cottage is looking so cute 👏👍 I know I’m weird, but I think DA roses looked deformed 😂
Me, 2! I like the shape of hybrid teas. ;)
@@lyndelgado6138 Yep!👍
Love castor bean
I’ve tried those they are amazing!
You really inspire me, Brian. I'm also working on making a new property 'mine,' not nearly as big a scale as yours, all the different projects and plans are a constantly growing to-do list, but it's all so very worth it!
Thank you! That's my goal!
Truth!!! Even anything green on an eggplant is poisonous to anyone! My rabbits still managed to eat a couple of leaves. But, he is doing fine. The garden has since been enclosed
I love your Companion Planting for Beginners book. It is awesome.
Thank you!
another excellant show - just a note, the tiown after which Alnwick Rose is named is pronounced Ann Ick
Deadheading the Anne Boleyn. 😂 Gave me a giggle! lol
David Austin roses are recommended planted deeper than we plant roses. I've planted a dozen now and they seem very happy with the graft lower. What is your opinion?
Even their own website offers conflicting advice. I plant at the level of the crown
Castor Bean has become an invasive weed here in Santa Barbara County.
Nice, thank you!
Love the music!
Have you thought about growing Jamaican sorrel. Planting for the first time. I have eaten the jelly and drunk the juice. Very delicious. Looking for advice.
I love all your videos !!! Also loved the little music bit during your planting.

What was the music you played while planting the cosmos. It was vert nice.
Love the David Austin Roses! Question about the self watering trays❓ Do you think they’ll stand up to summer sun (9a CA) and not get brittle? Bought some but I have been starting seeds outside with the nice weather and haven’t taken these outside. Thank you for your help. 🙏🙏🙏
Do the gopher baskets work with. Moles and shrews?? Is there a better method for those?
What kind of fertilizer are you using when planting your cosmos
Do you have to worry about the rose popping off those brick on chimney?
How timely, as I have cosmos, aster and sunflower seed packets before me.
I have fig tree for last 5 years last year only 4 figs came. This year no fig I would like to know what should I do to get the fig fruit on this tree. Plz let me know. Thanks.
Love the self watering tray. I went to buy one but the shipping is almost as much as the product. :-(
Scrub Jays, Stellar Jays, I call them all blue jays too even though I do know the difference. They are all part of the corvid family which includes jays, crows and ravens, all incredibly intelligent!

Can you plant cosmos seeds directly in raised beds
I was told that caster bean plants keep the gophers away
I am in Growing zone 10 a Southern California. Where did you buy roses? I want to invest in some but I don’t know where to buy them next year. Thank you Brian.
Are the cosmos you planted perennials? All the ones I've ever seen are annuals.
Any thoughts on gloves vs. no gloves? I love to get my hands in the dirt. I see you do, too.
Nice Brian. What are your plans for the bottom of the chicken coop?
I call them blue jays also. What's the name of the music you played. I like it.
You need to "dead head" the Anne Boleyn roses? Really? 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 took me a second but awesome!
What state and zone are you planting in? I am in Zone 4.
Can I put cosmos in a container?
Years ago, I grew castor bean plants, which were absolutely beautiful…i tried to germinate some this year, but I think the seed were duds…so disappointing.
I learn a lot from you and you videos Brian. Do the gopher baskets inhibit growth?
Not if you make them like this
Off subject, but how are the bunnies?
I didn't dead head my Cosmos as often as I should have last year... The reseeded themselves everywhere 😂. I m mostly ok with it and can pluck the ones from the grass 😂😂😂
😊
This is probably a dumb question, but if castor beans are poisonous, why would you want them around?🤔
so a little spin, A blue bird, you have named Jay, because he is your friend? Yeah, we will go with that. This way everyone can be right!
I had to have my stomach pumped when I was little for eating castor beans
My blue jays are a nuisance, and 5 times larger! They steal all the good seed from the feeder.I’d rather have your blue birdie!
I want to be procrastiplanting where I don't have to pay the bills wash the dog vacuum the floor or do the dishes or even think about what's for supper I want to be in my garden
