I was SO LUCKY to see these guys open for Mastodon in Atlanta during the Opus days (with Opeth as well). Most of us in the audience had no idea who Ghost was. Tobias was standing at the edge of the stage with a thurible, and we weren't prepared. Papa was a simple silicone mask at that time, and it felt like he was looking right at YOU in particular, LOL. They were chuggy as hell, and and the whole crowd was ON board. I'll NEVER forget my first time hearing Ritual. EPIC. Keep on doing it!
Even though extreme metal is my favorite music genre I enjoy Ghost because I find their music catchy. I dont know what it is but it puts a smile on my face when I listen any of their songs.
Great video! Check out another AMAZING band from Sweden called Opeth. They are unbelievable and extremely diverse and heavy (at times). Mikael Aekerfelt is a musical genius!
I remember reading an interview in either ‘Terrorizer’ or ‘Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles’ (when metal magazines existed)- and this new band ‘Ghost’ was highlighted. In the interview it was specifically said their goal was to become popular, mainstream and spread their message to as many as possible. I thought it was funny, especially thinking they looked like brutal death metal and not at all like what I heard later. I thought they’ve accomplished that goal when I heard them on my local radio station.
Okay so 2019, I lived in Detroit. I was wearing a t-shirt of The Cure, and someone came up to me and asked if I had heard of "Ghost". I said I had, but did not know anything about them. The guy went well if you like the Cure, and other music like that, you will probably like Ghost. I went alright, and walked off. Later on that night, I decided I'd check them out. The guy was right, I fucking loved them !!! I guess the person saw me for what I am, essentially an old school goth, and figured I'd enjoy the imagery and such of the band. I ended up seeing twice that year, and both shows blew me away. I am seeing them later this summer, and cannot wait !!!! And I love older horror movies, so all the old school horror references in some of their shirt designs just kick ass to me. Jesus these guys rule man. Best band to come about in years..........
1. Meliora (top 3: Dues in Absentia, Cirice, He Is) 2. IMPERA (top 3: Griftwood, Call Me Little Sunshine, Darkness at the Heart of My Love) 3. Prequelle (top 3: Rats, Witch Image, See the Light) 4. Opus Eponymous (top 3: Ritual, Death Knell, Stand by Him) 5. Infestissumam (top 3: Monstrance Clock, Body and Blood, Infest/Per Aspera Ad Inferi)
5: Infestissumam 1: Year Zero 2: Monstrance Clock 3: Ghuleh / Zombie Queen 4: Opus Eponymous 1: Elizabeth 2: Stand By Him 3: Satan Prayer 3: Impera 1: Respite On The Spitalfields 2: Kaisarion 3: Darkness At The Heart Of My Love 2: Meliora 1: He Is 2: Square Hammer 3: Cirice 1: Prequelle 1: Faith 2: See The Light 3: Witch Image
I finished my listen! We pretty much agree on the order here, although not on quality. This is how I would rank the albums: 1. Prequelle 4 Stars 2. Meliora 4 Stars 3. Opus Eponymous 3,5 Stars 4. Impera 3 Stars 5. Infestissumam 3 Stars Good band overall, but not amazing. The Top 2 albums were the last I heard, so that kind of saved them a bit for me. My favourite song definitely is Cirice.
Yeah, Ghost is a tricky one, for me. They started out as a pretty respectable, dark, gothic band, but they've gradually become "lighter" over the years. They're fast becoming a camp, cheesy pop act. They remind me of Queen's progression from hard rock into pop, but with Ghost it's been a progression from gothic rock to pop rock.
I definitely know what you mean, they’ve changed a lot but I think Tobias’ songwriting is still top tier and their new album has plenty of really great rock songs mixed in with a bit of cheesiness 😂
I think one point that I would disagree with you is this: Ghost was *always* a pop band. Look at the hooks present on Opus Eponymous - that first album is chock full already. By the time Prequelle came around, Tobias had his sound dialed in and laser-focused, so the pop element was more apparent but not more prevalent imo. Helvetesvonster is a serious musical composition, not pop. I will agree that Impera is "lighter" and does lose some of the earlier dark/Gothic vibe.
Came from the reddit, was not disappointed. Another UK Ghost fan? Hell yeah! I'll give a 'ranking reaction' as it were, without spoilers. And if you want my ranking, they're genuinely all equal in my eyes: #5: Very much understandable; people could definitely say all the songs sound samey. #4: I've found a recent appreciation for this album, but I feel you there. You need to have a very specific vibe to play this. 'Prog Zombie' is another nice phrase to add to my collection... #3: Your top pick for this album is objectively the best Ghost song; I have to agree, though it's not my favourite. For context, the word you had difficulty pronouncing is, I believe, an area of London. #2: I'd put this one at #1 personally, but it would be close. Agreed with your balance argument too! #1: Your all-time favourite song matches up with mine! Why are we so similar lol. Agreed with the points about that era as well, especially pertaining to flow. Amazing ranking and awesome video! :D
Some Ghost songs I've connected with and still have them on repeat but the only full album I'll happily listen to front to back has been Prequelle, I hope that changes in the future btw that shirt is so darn cool. Their aesthetic is one of my favorite from any band.
My album ranking just depends on the day. Impera if I want to listen to guitar, Prequelle if I am sad, Meliora for rock/metal headbanging, Infestisumam for naughty satan tunes, and Opus eponymous for downright devious satan heavier satan tunes (Satan).
Such an amazing band. I saw them in 2018 they are so good live. The new one I think is one best albums of 2022. My first album would be Meliora for me.

Also I don’t think there’s a bad order for favorites of their albums, I can understand why any one of them could be someone’s number 1.

@@marysmusictaste well, I guess there's nothing wrong with a bit of cheese... I am guilty of owning most of Bon Jovi's albums 🤪

Amazing ranking and awesome video! :D
Thank you so much!! ❤️
I agree Spillways is the best Ghost song. That thing found its way up my neurons and decided to stay there for 6 whole months.

Also yes Twenties is a banger I don't get the hate
Wowowow I was fully expecting Meliora to be 1st, but the one you picked is also my fav atm
Thank you for watching 🥰 and agreed, their aesthetic is amazing!

They have such good lore, so cool.
Agreed!
Such an amazing band. I saw them in 2018 they are so good live. The new one I think is one best albums of 2022. My first album would be Meliora for me.
Ah amazing, I’ll be seeing them live at Download next year!! And I definitely agree about Impera being the best album of 2022 🥰
@@marysmusictaste they are on another level. Just amazing all around songwriting.
Cool ranking Mary! I think Meliora is my favourite. Very tough band to rank for sure
Thank you!!
I agree with you on Opus, but I feel Infest should be higher. I ALSO LOVE PREQUELE!!!!!!!!
