I'm always amazed when people use the comments section to complain about a free audiobook. If you don't like it, turn it off or buy one off Audible etc. Discuss the book sensibly if you really need to. Someone has gone to time and effort to upload it.
A great clean book by a great author. My Mom used to say " you don't need to use foul language if you have a good vocabulary". This proves book that. Good narrator also.
Totally agree, some folks seem to want their cake and h’penny. I have tinnitus so to have a voice telling me tales, it’s a great distraction especially at night and all for free. So to all narrators who keep this old lady “entertained” in the wee small hours all for free, you have my eternal gratitude. Did I mention that they do this without charge. Thank you ❤
I too have tinnitus and really appreciate these audios. It can be a horribly long and restless night listening to, in my case, something akin to cicadas in the tropics. It's great to immerse oneself in another landscape with characters one can picture in the imagination x
Well this is on another level, the Yorkshire books are ridiculous honestly, the same story over and over, the same dialogues, I could recite them by memory after the first 3 books
@@janetpendlebury6808because that's what TH-cam offers, if I could choose something else I would but I have to spend 9 hours of my day with headphones on no matter what, but I'm not listening to them anymore, I tried 3 books and it felt like a scam cause it was the same plot and dialogues and I'd rather give views to people that actually try to be serious about the stuff they write and not just copy pasting it
Vera is My favourite contemporary murder-mystery show, and she’s My favourite Ann Cleeves Character - so well- written, and exceptionally acted/filmed/written/directed/produced!
Anne Cleaves is the author of amongst other books, the Vera and Shetland series of detective books, now wildly successful television programmes popular in many countries around the world.
Strange man our Insp Ramsey. I’m sure there is a pill for him, or some therapy? He deserves to be a little happier. Great story very well read. Thank you
Ann is a good author with the potential to be a brilliant one. She just needs to tighten up her plot, make it more “show” than “tell”. A free audiobook does not detract from the desire to see the skill of a talented author raised to a level she is capable of.
AC has a long, very successful career as a published author, with many TV adaptations of her work. Check out the Hebrides and Vera series of books in particular.
Unusual style for a detective story - know Vera and Shetland from TV, but never the source material, is this her usual style, the lack of police in the action??
@@barbarahenninger6642 I was just thinking, listening to this for hours, how abridged the stories must be to last under 2 hours. A lot of the time and intricacies must be lost. Can't be helped; each book would have to be a miniseries like Broadchurch!
I have come too the conclusion, that some people are only really happy being complaining misersble people. Just do what all of these messages suggest. Just turn them off, and carry on being a curmudgeon, but stop inflicting it on those that enjoy the stories.
I'm thinking, everyone! Which is fascinating. I love how she writes thoughts, feelings and motivations for each of them. Love it, can't wait to hear the others!
Sure it's slow-paced, but interesting in its portrayal of characters and descriptions of the settings. More authentic, I think, than some modern books of the genre.
Cleeves has written over 44 books and still churning them out! After reading a few ,I began to wonder if I'd read them before. No I hadn't, they just similar story lines and very predictable. The above one, is extremely boring I agree, I gave up too..

This audiobook made my daily commute so much more enjoyable

Lol, my dad used to say that cursing was the way an ignorant mind expresses itself.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thank you for uploading it.
My word, what a surprising ending.
Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Great story & I love this reader. Thank you.
Thank you for the upload. It's much appreciated. I've come to enjoy being read to later in life and audiobooks have become a regular part of my life.
Thank you. I’m new to Ann Cleaves. It’s so fun to find a new (to me) author. I listen when I run or when I’m in the kitchen.
Ditto
Ann Cleeves is a fabulous writer in my opinion. I love her Vera Stanhope series, check them out also. Happy listening!!!
@@cindywilliams3542 thanks Cindy, I’ll look for those books

Ty, i love the stories . They are done so well ,and i become so immersed , i forget where i am.🎉🌹🦋☀️🌻
Good story and a wonderful narration. 👍
Definitely not in the high action genre but a lovely exploration of character and relationship between them. An intriguing read. Many thanks.

I had to double check to see if it was really written by Ann Cleeves!
The Vera books are much better than the TV adaptation, in my opinion.

The rest of the series is much more gripping and Ramsay centred, didn’t enjoy this as much as the rest of the books. Felt like it rambled a bit x
I hope Ann Cleeves gets something from this!❤

One hour in, who is the main character? So far, not Ramsay.

I do like the narrator but the story is incredibly dull. Yes it is free. So I agree it is a good thing to listen to when trying to sleep. 😂
Volume too low 😢
Turn it up then !!!!
