    Sorry i was put off the leopard when they put IkIA style woodwork in & the biggest sin was Saildrive instead of a propshaft which meant weight went more to the rear. Very impressed allthough somewhat old fashioned was the ATARES 44, they have props with engine in the centre & low , the down kitchen and also comes with most things your buying extra for your leopard. Plus at the end of all the equasion they hold their prices better than leopards. Interesting to hear your views on Atares ?

      Not sure what you want us to say? It seems you have made your choice and that is what is important :-) every person has a certain preference and that is what made us unique. For me it was the look. Nothing technical, well the speed was koowl. But between the big three production boats?...all of them are good, it is a matter of how the boat fits your style ;-) and if Atares is your style, then I am all for it! You would be much more comfy with what your gut feeling is telling you to be.

    Hi guyz.. Been following you since then.. Nice vids. Love it. Keep me updated. Btw. I been eyeing for a catamaran.. May i ask? Why choose leopard 45? Why not a bigger one.? Or lagoon 620 maybe? Whats with 45 footer? Lets set aside the price.. Whats with the 45 range.. ? Thanks again.. Keep sailing and always on safe mode.

      Thank you, Marvin for your support since then! We discuss the length I think in the previous episode? but in short, below 40 the cats don't surf that quickly on the big swells but rather just get lifted up. The bigger the cat the faster and longer it will surf, which gives you up to 5kts faster while surfing, because it want to keep up with the wave speed. However, we have been on the L50 and it is a gorgeous boat with plenty of space and yeah, many koowl features...but, it is big. Even with the L45, we need to find spots where we can get hauled out and it is not many, also much more expensive. The same goes for marinas, we figured that we will do most of the time anchoring, which takes this problem away, but if you do want to go into a marina, then we found some marinas way to small for our L45, but for example, Setur Netsel Marina in Marmaris, Turkey, you would be pressed for space even though they have way bigger boats in there, they just cramp a sh** load of boats in there! the size to handle is not really the issue, which many calim it to be. Two people would easily be able to handle the L50 at sea, but to catch it in marinas while on a windy day mat proof to be a challenge for many mariners, they just do not know how to catch and hold a big boat. Hope this is a few pointers? Thank you for watching!

      to clarify on the haul out, it is not the tonnage, it is the beam....for example, our crane in South Africa was 8m and our beam 7.6m, but it could lift 800t

    • @SailingSisu

      The 500 is double of the Leopard 45. But yes, it is all hand made with care. They produce only 4 or 5 boats a year.

    Did you look at the St Francis 50 Catamaran? Also South African boat.

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, lovely and big. Also loved the idea of helm being part of aft cockpit. But we are more comfortable with 45ft. Although, must confess... The Leopard 50 may swing us!

    • @sm6wet
      @sm6wet 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just love the St Francis 50. I like the way it is setup with protected cockpit helm position, inside forward facing command center :-) where on can drive the boat as well as do office work and just look up now and then. I love how the manufacturer is very flexible to the wishes and needs of the buyer so that it can be configured pretty much exactly how you want it.
      I looked on some tracker sites for StF 50 cats and followed some of the boats. The manufacturer is right, very very seldom does a St Francis 50 go under 200 nautical miles on a 24h period. That is good too.

    • @SailingSisu
      @SailingSisu  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, those big boats goes pretty far in 24 hours. I remember when we were crossing on a Leopard 39, the Leopard 46 were doing on average 70nm per day more just because it can surf longer and it has that huge sail plan. We did "race" a StF 43 from St Helena on the 1st of January 2006 and the our L39 gave the StF a head start of almost 6 hours, but still overtook the 43 within 15 hours. but, yes, that StF43 was much more beautiful finished with awesome woodwork and the most modern lighting (for 2006). It had a much more homy feeling than the L43. The StF are awesome boats and they do have that final personal touch, that is for sure! talking about speed, have you seen this clip? th-cam.com/video/ML-z-xs-9f0/w-d-xo.html
