    The amazingly clear views on Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge made up for 2 days of socked in skies. Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge are amazing in winter with great views of Marcy, Algonquin, Chapel Pond, and Whiteface.

      Glad you enjoyed it! It is amazing what a day can do. Snow and grey skies on Cascade/Porter the day before. You really appreciate days like that.

    Awesome couple of days for you! Definitely need to get to GFA and talk about what I need for winter hiking and snowshoeing around WNY and the high peaks. Keep the videos coming and be safe!

      Glad you enjoyed it! You really treasure blue bird days in the Adirondacks. When you live 6 hours away, you hiking in just about any conditions. The previous 4 peaks were socked in. I was happy that Eric got to experience skies that almost look artificial.

    I’ve done Giant 3x. Once in winter. Doing it again almost makes me want to cry just to get to RPR lol

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      RPR is a bit demoralizing. You climb neatly to the top of Giant just to go back down and up to RPR. But I really like the summit of RPR.

    • @UnlikelyHiker
      @UnlikelyHiker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutsideChronicles I did RPR from New Russia last time. I know the hike is 3x longer but part of me would almost rather go that way. But it seems like a massive waste of energy in winter to go that way.

    Wow, this is my type of trail. Those views from up top were amazing!!! That is some good elevation gain. So I have a question, was that glissading? I had never heard of it before today. I can't wait to watch more of your videos

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even though our mountains are only 4,000’, the trails are no joke. There are very few switchbacks. Glissading is sliding down the mountain on your butt. Since the trails are steep, you can really get moving. Some people use round butt sleds. It’s a fun, fast way to get down a mountain. But you have to be cautious not to catch a snowshoe or go off a ledge.

    Are you using the rode wireless go in this video for the audio?

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, what I do for my hiking vlogs is use the GoPro audio, with wind cancelation turned off, and one of these wind muffs: amzn.to/38xS7vE

      @@OutsideChronicles beautiful footage you got, which gopro is this? and you used the windslayer housing or normal housing shell?

      @OutsideChronicles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clubpenguinsucks yes, all GoPro Hero 8 footage. I use the foam Windslayer amzn.to/3zot0Yu. Works great. Thanks for the comment and watching!

    How long did it take to get to the top of Giant? Planning to do this in the winter

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a hard question to answer, it depends on your pace and the conditions. My friend and I are pretty fast hikers, but not the fastest. Here is my data: maps.suunto.com/move/mikeradomski/60218944af4dd252f2c71888

    How fast did you make it down sliding like that? You looked like you were really moving.

    • @OutsideChronicles
      @OutsideChronicles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely get moving pretty good in sections. It is a lot of getting up and getting down. The longest glissade was maybe a few hundred feet. Some people actually use butt sleds. They can get moving quick, but there is a higher risk of injury. Definitely a fun way to get down the mountain.
