Ok I’m sure you’ve answered this before but I can’t find it. Where does Kona sleep? I know lots of big dogs like Shepard’s like to be outside even in winter so I was just wondering. I thought it might be interesting if you did a blog on the colony from Kona’s point of view. Where she sleeps, what she eats, who are her doggie friends, does she have favorite places to walk with you?

You all pull together and put difference aside to love thy neighbour and always be willing to help when needed..
You are a true inspiration Giselle and i look forward to all of your uploads. Have a lovely weekend.

@@gisellewaldner9406 I am curious and have an off topic question. I was on a Hutterite colony in Alberta in 1978, they were pretty hardcore, no TV, radio etc IIRC someone told me they did have a radio for weather reports. My question is how does your colony feel about TV, I've never seen one in your blogs and if you do have one is it discouraged. Nowadays everything is content and your computer/tablet/smartphone is basically a TV. I really don't see a difference in watching content on TV or a phone. So I am wondering what the colony's guidelines (if any) there are towards TV or phones. It might surprise you that I had a career in network TV news and think the Hutterites I saw in 1978 probably had it right, and agree with one of the fathers of TV Isaac Shoenberg who said TV" was one of the greatest time wasters of all time, I hope you use it well". :)

I quit using coconut shortening or oil because it was effecting my cholesterol levels. Never had problem with my cholesterol levels until I started using it and was put on medication. I stopped using it and my levels returned to normal and no longer needed the medication. That was about 6 years ago, It was the only change I had made in my diet so was easy to figure out. I've toured two colonies here in Manitoba with my children and fellow homeschoolers now. On top of that, I am reading a book on the value of community. It made me think of my tours to colonies. It is so hard to have community in my life. Everyone is so busy being independent on their farms or acreages! It is a tiring life sometimes.

Thank you, that was very interesting. I love using vinegar for cleaning, I used to do a lot of cleaning in the church and the priest called me "Dr Vinegar" and other people would think I was eating food when I was cleaning!😂The priest said the vinegar smell was bad for his asthma but I said that dust would be worse!😂. I also use vinegar as a hair rince as it makes the cutcle of the hair lie flat so it shines more and doesn't tangle so easily.

Lovely Kona, loves to be a lap baby. Sweet pup. I enjoyed visiting with your day and and yes, thank you for the cleaning formulas as well. Surprise, I wash with vinegar too! Also I like to use it as a weed killer for those pesky weeds that sprout between our pavers. Sometimes I have to "switch gears" from cleaning to do other odd bits as well, especially if it's a large cleaning job. Do the diene in your colony have to wash the cars too?

Have you ever tried making citrus scented vinegar? Basically it's just citrus peels (oranges, lemons, etc) you put them in a jar and pour white vinegar over it. Put a cover on the jar and let it sit for a month or so, then strain out the citrus peels. You get something that smells like citrus but works like vinegar.

    QUESTION:
    1. What type of fabric are your dresses? They look so nice and never wrinkle.
    2. Do little kids wear the same clothes and head coverings as the adults?
    3. Do you watch TV or go to movies?
    4. If nobody actually liked a tradition in your colony (ie ham sandwich on Sunday), how do you go about changing that tradition?
    5. Does Kona get to come into the house during Winter?

Quoting Ecclesiastes 12 : 12; As for anything besides these, my son (or daughter ) be warned; to the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh." Why ? Our mind's energy is channelled into a different scenario, taking us into a lullaby state of mind, something to be avoided by Christians trying to walk on the way to salvation on the narrow and cramped road leading to life. Something seriously to think about. Regard's Doug.😘
