Barn Find BMW Isetta, first drive in 35 years!

- This is the finale of the Isetta Mini series renovation we did, if you didn't watch them I will post the link to the playlist at the end.
This Isetta went from low mile psychedelic charmer in the 60's to parked on display in an office tower as decor.. and finally stored away in a dusty basement.
First drive in over 30 years! what a charming little car :)

Alex, you're awesome. How do you have time to restore cars, buildings, run a store, search for antiques and restore your home and spend time with your lovely family? You're just amazing.
Seriously, I don't think I have seen anyone else so multi-talented while multi-tasking. Impressive
You’re my hero Alex, creative, mechanical, crafty and completely masculine. You are a fine example of the contemporary man. I have never learned how to work on a car, I can put oil and water in or change a battery and that’s where I draw the line. I’m fascinated by your many talents and your openly sharing everything with us.

If not for the headlights, the back of this car looks like the front. The luggage rack helps people on the road to see it better. We had one of these when I was a kid and we lived in Ulm, Germany. It went fast and fit great through the narrow cobble roads in town! 🚓🚓🚓

Amazing you got that running after 35 years. Coming down the road it reminded of Mr Bean and his little car. Your knowledge of antiques and fixing old cars is amazing.
I loved the fact that you can get under a car and get dirty and greasy and fix a problem but yet are concerned enough to decorate with suitcases so it looks cute!!! I am in awe!! loL

Thinking the same thing as I watched him drive it. Would be so cool to be his neighbor. I'd be out there helping video, clean cars, or whatever. Anything to hang out with a cool TH-cam celebrity.
@@4thegloryofthelord I was thinking the same thing. I thought one of the neighbors had an old looking car too, then I remembered that Alex got that truck looking car too as a delivery vehicle for the store.

If Mustie1 has taught me anything about old engines it is that any carb that has been sitting for more than a few years needs a complete disassembly and cleaning. Good luck with this cool little car!
put a luggage rack on the trunk of the Caddy, and you can carry it with you as a backup car. lol

@@julier.1902 I actually saw something like that once. They built this super long limo, then built a mini-limo out of ... I think it was a couple of Mini-coopers. The big limo carried it, and even had a way to put it on the ground. Just in case the limo quit or they needed a shorter car to get into a tight space.

Great job Alex! It's so nice to have some knowledge about the different vehicles so that you don't have to pay out a huge chunk of money to get a simple thing that you are capable of fixing! We had a family friend that actually owned 2 of them over several years. He was a tall & large man that was not too quick to get in & out! We used to tease him that it was his version of a riding lawnmower! Thanks for the great update and bringing us along on the first ride in 35yrs!
I'm feeling really envious of your neighbors getting to see so many awesome things happen and all in person. I've never considered myself a nosy neighbor but I would turn into one if I lived by you. lol. I love your videos and I'm so happy that you make them.
It seems there's virtually nothing you can't do! And because you're filming to share with us, most everything you accomplish is with one hand! To save you possible trouble, next time you use the plumbers tape wrap it the direction the thing you screw on goes on. That will keep it from bunching up and only use three rounds. Have been enjoying your videos for a long time now, thank you for them.
In the 60s they were called bubble cars, I still want one. 💕

All Isettas came with a sunroof which is critical for safety reasons because if you hit something in front there is no other way to escape. The bucket seats are also not original, they all came with a single bench seat. Great video, really enjoyed it.

I think I learned more in this video about car engines then I did in the entire quarter in my High School Pre-Driver’s license class! LOL Thanks Alex and such an adorable cute car! You could keep this car in the backseat of the Cadillac in case it breaks down, so you can get home! ;-)
When I was in high school in the early 70's in Woodstock Ontario, a man who lived near the school drove one of these to work every day. It was a novelty back then, too! Fun to see you bring one to life again.
You have the energy of a toddler, always on the go. I don't know how you do it. You always have several projects going at once. I would be too claustrophobic in that car.

In 1967 I saw one of these parked in front of a house on Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana. We would give it an eyeballing on our walk to school. Always wanted a ride in it!

Have one of these in my garage! It was renewed in 1983, driven for 1000 km and left to wait better days. Now, I am again at the beginning, must bring everything in order as not to kill the engine...
I'm 4'11". It seems like the perfect car for short people. It sounds like my moped but it runs better.

What a cute little car. It had me laughing just at the size difference driving on the street to other cars. It reminds me a lot of Ststeve Urkel car.

You could put a Christmas tree on the top of the wee red car (as if someone just went and cut a Christmas tree) then park it beside your store and let people take pictures outside of it for Christmas pictures. That'd be cool. 😁
I saw snowflakes in your video, which is really exciting to me because I have lived my whole life in Southern California next to the beach and have never seen a snowflake fall before.

That wee car is adorable. I just love it - it is so zippy. I drive a little red and white Mini Cooper, so this car makes me very happy. But whew it is so tiny!!!!!

Bubble cars were quite common in England in the 1960s. My friend bought one and drove it into his garage. Realising he was too close to the wall he couldn't open the door, he then realised it didn't have a reverse gear. He sat there shouting for an hour before his mother heard him and released him.
Every time you get in that car, I crack up. You look crammed in there.😂

A man of many talents! Just be careful in that tiny car!
Two minor points before I even finish watching the video. 1) You are very trusting with that spring clip. Put it in from the top. 2) There is originally a felt strip between the gas tank and the holding straps. It was probably there for a good reason. And there is every chance that if you fill the tank right up you will discover a corrosion leak at the top of the tank adjacent to the filler. But good luck and well done for getting in on the road.

For future reference you should always wrap teflon tape clockwise around the threads so it doesn't loosen and bunch up as you screw on the fixture.
