      How could this happen? Operator error.

    • @StupidBadITCH
      @StupidBadITCH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Idk man. It depends on the mental state of the person on the bridge. Usually the natural response for when the ground starts moving under you, you’re going to run to stable ground that isn’t moving. I don’t know why you would stand there as the ground moving just to fall or not even attempt to run. For the sheer amount of weight for those mechanical parts to move I’m guessing it’s a slow bridge. I don’t think a bridge can raise up faster than 40mph. It gotta be Atleast 3 hours or so for it to fully raise. Whatever the amount of time it takes which isn’t 10 seconds, I’m a firm believer she had enough time to walk fast to stable ground or back to where she came.

    • @m1zxry_tt832
      @m1zxry_tt832 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Jonno your delusional, the operator is to blame if it was human error. If something was faulty with the bridge as in it went up on t's own THEN I'd blame the company

    • @bobknull7502
      @bobknull7502 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@StupidBadITCH The bridge sections are counter weighted. It takes about 15 to 20 seconds to raise. Thus the gates and safety procedures. Also, humans have one of three responses in these situations. Fight...flight or freeze. I take it you have never driven in Florida. LOTS of draw bridges.

    I'm not normally too emotional over stories about tragedies, but this one is tugging at my heart! Poor woman. I read she was elderly. She must've been terrified! I hope she died immediately without any pain.
    I've been complaining for years that people are getting more and more incompetent! I swear once upon a time, we trusted people to know how to do their jobs. The past 10 years I've dealt with HR and payroll at the board of education, police officers, lawyers, insurance adjusters, FEMA representatives, bankers, managers of companies,etc., and came to the conclusion that I can't trust anybody to do their jobs correctly or be "experts" or professionals in their field of work. Anytime I have issues now, I literally have to spend the time to educate myself on how to resolve it, prior to a discussion with the person I need to do it, to ensure it's done properly. Since doing that, I've realized almost always, they haven't a clue what's supposed to be done and would've given bad advice, wrong answers, or taken the lazy or easy way out, had I not been prepared. This person working this bridge is no different! No doubt he/she skipped protocol, made assumptions, became impatient, and didn't care about the consequences. I hate to be so negative, but it's the reality we live in these days. I wouldn't doubt it if he/she blamed the lady for her death because it was taking her too long to get to the end and he assumed she was close enough that if he started raising the bridge she would hurry up! Instead she probably panicked, paralyzing her with fear, stopping her in her tracks! This was unnecessary either way! Makes me sick that companies just hire any idiot to do a job these days. Praying for her family and the idiot who killed her (regardless of whether he/she even cares)

      I've noticed this too. I think it's this instant gratification culture where nobody stops to pay attention to details anymore, everyone seems to have ADD or just don't care. Unfortunately in my line of work, there's a long detailed contract and most of my customers just sign without bother reading and it creates so much conflict later on. This news report sounded like they were trying to make it seem like it was her fault for walking her bike in the pedestrian lane, which doesn't even matter, she still would've died!

    • @bettyveronica9880
      @bettyveronica9880 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      You're correct. Everything is so rushed! People mistakenly thought that advanced technology would make our lives easier, but it's made us not think as much. Too many unrealistic deadlines, pressure, and people aren't adequately compensated, so they're fatigued, stressed, and more prone to mistakes; in this case, a tragedy. If the bridge operation haf enough safety measures, and BACK-UP, triple-checking, this could have been avoided.
      RIP 😞💔

      She wasn't near the end. That spokes person was incorrect, because he says two opposite things. He says she almost reached the end, about ten feet from the end. Yet, he said she fell 50 or 60 feet to her death and landed on the mechanical parts of the bridge. Logic says that what he meant was that she almost reached the mid point of the bridge when it raised, which is far from being safe, as his statement would have you believe. She was in just about the worst spot when this occurred. I believe he just misspoke.

    The lady was a 79 year old walking her bike. She was ten feet from the side that doesn't lift. She tried to hang onto the rails but fell through the hinge portion straight down. They are investigating whether the bridge tender did his job. He is supposed to go out on the platform and walk around it (on the tower) to make sure no one is on the bridge. She was literally in front of his tower. There was a skateboarder on the stable side that desperately tried to help her but had to watch her fall instead. This is such a preventable accident. They need to charge the bridge tender (in my opinion) at least for manslaughter.
    Also, you have 50 seconds from when the barriers close to when the bridge starts to rise. That is insane.

Safety would be an easy thing to overcome with some CCTV cameras covering both sides of the bridge as long as the operator looked at the screens before raising the draw. Interested in seeing how this pans out. All the safety procedure in the world still won't stop the human error factor.

    • @AnthonyRGarcia
      @AnthonyRGarcia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      All valid and true, but I still wonder how it happened. Bridges don't move THAT fast when raising. She also hade a bicycle. With all of the warning signs that it's moving, I would think she could have hopped on the bike and made the last 10 feet, or at least get back to the other side before being too steep. Did she see the bridge about to go up and continued anyways thinking she'd make it? Who knows. Of course I wasn't there and don't know this bridge, but I am having a really hard time figuring how this happened, even with operator negligence.

I make assumptions based on my fear and imagination of how scared that poor woman must have been, and the trams of the man that tried to hold onto her but couldn’t. They say there are many fail safe protocols that has to be gone through so this tragedy can be avoided, if it is not machine fail safe and it has to be done via humans then it would make sense and the person or persons who obviously didn’t do their job should be punished severely because that poor woman can’t be brought back. If it was mechanical I don’t have the slightest clue how to handle that other than that bridge should have alert people working to help hopefully make sure this never happens again. I suppose it will take awhile before we know how and why that happened.

      @@alanmayne2918 That's what I mean though. There is a person, the bridge operator, whose job it is to sit in that tower on the right hand side. His/her job is to look to make sure the bridge the cleared first before raising it. That would mean someone didn't do their job. They have a million (well, alot) of cameras on that bridge he/she should have seen someone if they weren't asleep at the wheel. As far as the gate- if it's like railroads- you can get around on the farside. If it is an actual gate, then I think that is also part of the operator's job to lower and raise it. I think I need to watch more videos on this bridge. If I find anything, I'll be back, k? 😆 That's just how I am, sorry.

      @@alanmayne2918 ok, I made a separate post but not sure you will see it. The lady was 79 years old walking her bike. She was literally 10 feet from where the bridge hinge is. The guy who tried to help was a skateboarder on the other side. She tried to hold to on the rail, couldn't and fell through the hinge part. The "gates" are exactly what are at railroad crossings, just a bar with lights and sirens. The bridge tender's job is to go out on the deck of the tower to physically check for cars and pedestrians before the bridge raises. She actually fell from right in front of that tower. I am thinking he didn't do the walk or her would have seen her. They are investigating the bridge tender as well as the bridge itself. Poor lady. And that poor skateboarder who will be scarred for life. *oh and I saw a video where they timed it. You have 50 seconds from the time the rails go down before the bridge raises. Yikes.

I've always thought it's stupid that Florida to still uses and builds new drawbridges when they can simply build the bridges taller and I still can't believe they're working on the Southern Boulevard bridge that crosses the intercoastal it's been over eight years now and they're not even halfway done with it using the same old design of a drawbridge. These drawbridges cause accidents with boat crafts And Delay traffic all the time also causing accidents and mishaps. And this is not the first person to fall to their deaths being stuck on a drawbridge it happens more than you think. Just usually they hushed the story up before it gets out.
