I use “spray” Murphy’s Oil soap as a final clean-up even when cleaning off my paint pallets. If it’s really caked and dried on, the use of a straight-edge razor knife helps.
Thanks for sharing this, I’m sure this helped a lot of other people. Stupid me had it in a 20 ounce mason jar, kicked it while painting. It was practically full and it spilled all over the living room floor. Used up a whole roll of paper towel I really tried to soak it up in the toilet and shit and it left the floor all greasy but it evaporated I looked it up and it does evaporate and then I did it again the next day with half of the jar full.
My city has a recycling plant that’s only open on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. They take paint, cleaners, tires, refrigerators, monitors, TVs, etc. All the details are on their website. There is a fee to dispose of some stuff though.
Hey!! Thanks for the video!! And what about the thinner? How to dispose it? just let ir always dry out? I don't think in my city there are places where people recycle it...
Check to see if there are places first ( there generally are ). But I would clean my thinner first so I can reuse it then dispose of the sludge like I show in this video. To clean your thinner to re-use it. Check out the 2 videos below Cleaning: th-cam.com/video/EaDM4eJdxAE/w-d-xo.html Cleaning Tool: th-cam.com/video/R6Fy13Zs-BM/w-d-xo.html
I just started oil painting with the Bob Ross style! How do I properly dispose of rags/paper towels with paint thinner on them? Right now they are in cans (with water) and a lid taped on.
I re-use my containers until they get too dirty or destroyed. Once they reach that stage I clean them up and throw them away and replace. If any chemicals are left in ( yes I will take them to the correct disposal spots )
I am using a Thinner named "Kleen Strip Green Paint Thinner" I purchased it at Walmart. unlike most other thinners those being clear. and I was able to put the clear thinner to the side let it sit and pour off the top. like described.. But as for this Kleen Strip Green thinner. it has a thick milk substance in the thinner. I was wondering can this type thinner be sat to the side and allow the paint residue settle to the bottom and then pour off the top? and if sso how would I know/tell due to it being so milky thick and can not see what to pour off? thanks for any help or advice you can share.
Generally Milky thinners are for industrial use.... Any art thinner/mineral sprit will be clear and allow heavy pigment to fall to the bottom. This will allow you pour the clean top off into a new container.
Yes you can - Best to find an easy spot to start and finish where you can easily pick up from and continue. For example, when you finish painting your mountains. You can also re-wet your canvas in sections to continue painting. For happy accidents, if your not happy with them, Scrape them off and repaint :)
Thanks for your video. I use water mixable oil, and clean my brushes with water. Is there anyway I can separate the oil paint from the dirty water ?, If I leave the mix even for days the paint does not sink to the bottom. I can't throw away the dirty water to the environment also since it contains the oil paint.
So it will eventually separate BUT it it will take a long time. You can always filter it out by using actual filters. Google it to see how other artist do it.... You can even use coffee filters. its messy but it works
Thank you for making this video! It came out at just the right time as I have been noticing that my paint thinner is very very cloudy and there's sludge at the bottom. One question. What do you mean using the sludge as a 'base paint'? Is base paint referred to, for example, the first base color for mountains?
I was referring to the wet liquid base you first apply to the canvas if you are a wet on wet painter or you can use it as a base to tone or wash your canvas :) Hope that helps.
@@anaygupta3512 :-) nobody has that kind of talent at first... you just have to try and keep making mistakes until you don't and you like what you produce. I had a trash can full of mistakes. Practice, practice, practice, you just have to want too bad enough. Happy mistakes! :-)

Did you use it for oil or acrylic clean up? Just curious.

Another awesome advice ,thank you Wild from my heart!!
Always happy tp make fun videos for ya :)

What you are doing is perfect just make sure the can with lid is metal and stored somewhere safe and not near flammable materials.
@@WildCreates What about when its time to empty the container, do they go in the trash or do you have to take them to a hazardous waste site?

Really helped me understand how to properly handle my paint thinner

I use the sludge as the toning paint, because it's kind of a burnt umber color.
Awesome - Love to hear that you are re-using it 💪
If your wet on wet painting dries, can you continue to paint it, and how.
Also if you do make a "happy accident", what are some good tips to fix it?

@@WildCreates Thanks so much for the advice !
You are super welcome - We will call it even by you smashing that SUB button 🔥
@@WildCreates Done . Thanks 😀
Add solvent to paint sludge to create a canvas stain.
That is a great way to re-use it too :)
Great video! Always good to help out the environment :)
Thank You - Glad that you liked it :)
How would we get rid of paint thinner soaked paper towels?
Let them dry out in a metal container - then you can throw away

@@WildCreates yes that was definitely helpful. Thank you so much for replying back!
Just doing what I can to help out :)
if you can get it to dry hard... you can carve it into little animals. Some woodturners make pens and small turning out of them.
But I don't have that kind of talent! 😂

AMAZING video💕
Thank you - I hope that it helps you out :)
The video is blacked out & only music playing. Something is wrong
Works fine for me - Try refreshing the page or logging out of TH-cam and back in :)
I made sure my room as well ventilated and open both the front and back door you don’t want to breathe that shit in
Always a smart move 🔥🔥🔥
