I was the video production assistant on The Ventures Live in Seattle concert in 2002 and can say that your guitar work emulates Nokie so perfectly, especially his 60’s era. Keep up the great work. Grant G
i'm trying to learn a song or two from time to time. At the moment, my work is really stressing me out, I dont find a moment to pick up my guitar. so I just come here and listen to your fab playing to relax. You are really good mate! keep going! :)
Hey Tom! I’m a beginner guitarist and found your channel after looking for a cover of Walk Don’t Run. I really enjoy playing along with your covers. You make chord practice fun. Thanks so much for including rhythm tabs in your videos. I don’t dread practicing chords anymore. ❤️🎸
I do enjoy (and learn from) your lessons. In reading Del Halterman's Book, Walk Don't Run - The Story of The Ventures, I discovered that this "Ventures" song is actually just Nokie Edwards and the backing track from Jackie DeShannon's single. Dick Glasser was the producer for both songs.
Very good, would love to see your take on the 1965 version of bulldog, it's one of the coolest ventures songs and with your ear, I reckon you could crack it.
Great stuff Tom. You probably know this but, for the original version on The Fabulous Ventures LP, Nokie simply played his part over the original Jackie DeShannon recording.
Great Tom. I'vs always wanted a fuzz like the Fuzzrite that I think Nokie used on his recorded version with a tele. The fuzz amount was small indeed making the would strings sizzle evenly and the plains nearly clean. Hard to get that combination today. Some of my buds are so used to hearing too heavy fuzz or distortion play, they can't seem to here it when I spin the platter. I think he was shooting for a baritone sax sound on the wounds....?? Your thoughts?
@@tomcon21 I tried the Fuzzright in '66 at a store in Indianapolis. I sadly didn't have the $$ for it or a Mosrite Ventures model. The dream is still present....😭 it indeed sounded similar to the recording.
I saw her today, I saw her face, it was a face I loved, and I knew I had to run away, and get down on my knees and pray that they'd go away But still they'd begin (uh), needles and pins (uh) Because of all my pride, the tears I gotta hide Hey I thought I was smart, I'd won her heart Didn't think I'd do, but now I see She's worse to him than me, let her go ahead Take his love instead, and one day she will see Just how to say please, and get down on her knees Hey that's how it begins (uh), she'll feel those needles and pins A-hurtin' her, a-hurtin' her Why can't I stop and tell myself I'm wrong, I'm wrong, so wrong Why can't I stand up and tell myself I'm strong Because I saw her today, I saw her face, it was a face I loved, and I knew I had to run away, and get down on my knees and pray that they'd go away But still they'd begin (uh), needles and pins (uh) Because of all my pride, the tears I gotta hide Oh needles and pins (uh), needles and pins (uh), needles and pins (uh)
Needles & pins surf, COOL.

I agree, it’s a tough sound to get. I tried but I know it’s not really close to the record. Not really sure how to get it but it’s a worthy pursuit!
@@tomcon21 maybe Nokie has magic pickups! Or maybe its his finger style picking.

Ovd or Little fuzz?
I saw her today, I saw her face, it was a face I loved, and I knew
I had to run away, and get down on my knees and pray that they'd go away
But still they'd begin (uh), needles and pins (uh)
Because of all my pride, the tears I gotta hide
Hey I thought I was smart, I'd won her heart
Didn't think I'd do, but now I see
She's worse to him than me, let her go ahead
Take his love instead, and one day she will see
Just how to say please, and get down on her knees
Hey that's how it begins (uh), she'll feel those needles and pins
A-hurtin' her, a-hurtin' her
Why can't I stop and tell myself I'm wrong, I'm wrong, so wrong
Why can't I stand up and tell myself I'm strong
Because I saw her today, I saw her face, it was a face I loved, and I knew
I had to run away, and get down on my knees and pray that they'd go away
But still they'd begin (uh), needles and pins (uh)
Because of all my pride, the tears I gotta hide
Oh needles and pins (uh), needles and pins (uh), needles and pins (uh)
