    He just is what he is. Decent offensive defenceman but definitely not a number one guy which is what he’s been labelled as thanks to the contract he was given. He also won’t waive his ntc anytime soon now settling down with a family of his own. If he does it would be to van and that’s probably it.

      Not decent offensively anymore. He's a slow liability out there...very easy for opponents to telegraph his next move and he just puck watches in his own end.

    I might be a filthy casual Leafs viewer but, I've only considered Reilly to be one of the Top 20 defenseman in the league maybe twice in his entire career...
    Apart from break out passes and leadership qualities, I don't really know why the Leafs have clung onto him for so long - and after having SOOO many partners that everyone tarred and feathered, eventually people need to look at the common denominator there.

    • @speed150mph
      @speed150mph 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This right here. Especially the partner thing. I get it was maybe a somewhat valid if overused excuse in years past. This year we picked up one of the best right shot drfencemen in the league in the form of Chris Tanev, and Reilly can’t beat out McCabe for the right to play next to him. If you can get him to work with Tanev, who are you going to find for him? Your running out of options

    Agree with everything you guys talked about. The time to do something about it has been long overdue. If the Leafs are truly serious in wanting to win a cup, or have any real success in the playoffs, then they have two options with Rielly: They either send him on a permanent vacation to Robidas Island, or they move him by adding another young player and/or picks with him in a deal. NMC contracts have been moved before so it can be done.

  • @geebster.

    The fact that Quinn Hughes signed his deal like 20 days before Morgan signed his... and they both signed for almost the same money... is CRAZY. How did Morgan Rielly demand similar money AFTER Hughes got his? Dubas just refuses to do his team any favours when he signs his guys eh?

    I think the Leafs have went a different direction with their D over the last couple years (compared to what they maybe intended with Reilly in mind). I think they need to commit to this new direction now that they’ve added these pieces. I think there are teams where Reilly could thrive, but the Leafs aren’t set up for a player like him anymore I don’t think. Which is a shame because I really like him.

    Hockey DB has Rielly carrying 225 lbs. His excellent skating / mobility has always been his primary asset.
    To my view he looks heavier and shows less jump than a few years ago. I wonder how he would be moving at 210 lbs.
    I recall Mike Komisarek looked heavier and a step slower (less jump) after he became a Maple Leaf.

      Im not sure how involved his wife is besides the kid. Her being a previous professional I wonder if his expectations are increased than most players who marry puck bunnies. Hockey players who stay at the top need to stay mostly focused and if the wife isn't taking a little more of kid duties the dad has to compensate which might be weighing on rielly

    • @darylmorrison6598
      @darylmorrison6598 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @ Less sleep is certainly a factor. The mental and emotional aspect of caring for a tiny little human that depends on you for absolutely everything is stressful, even for the most strong minded people. Guys, Morgan Rielly has had 1 good season in 6 years. And the worst player on the team 2 of the last 3 years. He's not injured, he's an offensive defenceman who lost his goal scoring touch and can't transition his game to being just a defenceman as Jesse pointed out in the clip

    D Morgan Rielly
    F Calle Järnkrok

    F Sam Bennett

    2025 5th round draft pick

    • @JarJarBlinkZ5
      @JarJarBlinkZ5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, been saying this for so long, the leafs are missing a player with snarl, however Florida would not do this. Bennett has the leafs number and is not the most liked among leafs fans for a certain play against Knies. However if the team can accept him and look past that you still have the issue of an inter division semi blockbuster trade.

    • @JarJarBlinkZ5
      @JarJarBlinkZ5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A more accurate trade I could see them doing would be going after Brayden Schenn. Obvious connection with Berube in two different places, Philly and St. Louis. He is on a struggling St. Louis team later in his career, old school style, he’s a center, 6’1 210 has snarl can like his brother he can play all the way up and down the line up. Kill penalties, can put him on the PP. he is basically a better version of Kampf in all aspects. I’d do Schenn St. Louis retains 25% and a pick from St. Louis for Rielly and Kampf

    Sens fan here so not that familiar with Leafs situation. If you have depth a maintenance game off may help him refresh his game. Lots of waiver wire defence as guys come back from injury on other teams. Sometimes a bubble guy can inject some energy and give flexibility. Seems like a pretty harsh assessment of the player. I'm sure Ottawa won't mind if he sits Saturday.

    Controversial opinion... I think overlooking Morgan as captain stung and affected him more than expected. AM only got it because of his playing, not his actual leadership skills which is NOT a recipe for success. Rielly is older, has been in the Leafs since the rough pre-Matthews era, by all accounts is considered a leader in the dressing room... His leadership resume is objectively better than AM who has already shown himself to be an ineffective captain. It's a poor excuse for Rielly switching off like he has, but having a kid and your dreams of being an NHL captain taken away in a short period of time is rough.

    i disagree, not in what's being said completely but recency bias that seems to be sweeping through public opinion. Who is Reilly's defense patterner? Phillipe Meyer? Connor Timmins? Simon Benoit? Cody Ceci? Ron Hansey? TJ Brodie? Ah... but Reilly held all these guys back right, Rielly is the problem right.
    It wasn't the fact the Leafs spent all their money on 4 talented forwards and had nothing left to get a defenseman that could play with him.

    Rielly has been terrible for a couple of years now. Won't hit, can't score, can't defend. He's gotta go. Don't make excuses for him.

    Im starting to think leafs nation is a bunch of cry babies. No matter what the team and players do the fans still find something to complain about. Getting really sick and tired of all the bs mediea on the leafs
