    Amazing! Been wondering what to do with all the lessons and information I learn from books. This is a great way to keep that knowledge to look back on...I might use the same PDF markup workflow and save those to a Notion database.

    I could have sworn there was an annotate or notes option in the Kindle, but I can’t find it now and I never used it. You’re so organized, and your notes on the iPad were so clear. Great techniques Sensei. I enjoyed Born a Crime, I don’t have any notes for the aforementioned reasons.

    Thank you, I just got a paperwhite and I’m toying with how to annotate in it. I don’t have an iPad yet and typing on the paperwhite isn’t great, I’m t trying to figure out how to make the font bigger when I type notes. Anyway I’m looking forward to trying this out and figuring out how to get my notes into evernote.

    Hi Bintou, the Kindle Oasis we talked about in my comment and your response a couple of months ago has been great. I use it mainly for library ebooks. But it occurred to me that it might be very helpful if there were an app that could be used with an iPad and pencil to annotate library ebooks. Of course, the annotations would be lost when the ebooks are returned to the library, but they could still be helpful in improving understanding and retention of important concepts in the ebooks while I have them checked out with the Libby/Overdrive library app. Any ideas? And thanks again for doing these good videos.

    • @readwithbintou
      @readwithbintou  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, you make an interesting point!
      I've never tried reading Libby books on my iPad but I gave it a shot and it doesn't look like its possible to really do any sort of annotation on the Libby app (not even highlighting). At best, I can bookmark pages, but thats not super helpful.
      The best way around it seems to be to download the Kindle App on the iPad as well so you can still highlight text and create text notes as you read....and guess what?! If you have the latest version of iPad OS you can actually use your apple pencil to write in that text field. It will be converted to typed text when you're done writing, but it's still pretty neat!
      Plus, those notes can also be exported once you're done so you can save them even after returning the book.
      Thanks for your comment. I wouldn't have discovered that work around without your question!

    • @foxedfolios
      @foxedfolios 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what model of Kindle you’re using (I have 2015 Kindle Paperwhite) so may not be exactly the same procedure, but if you’re in your library (which sounds like you currently see as just a list of titles and author names), you should see “SORT” (near top-right corner on my Kindle). Click on that and you will be given the option to display books as “Grid” instead of “List”. It also gives you different sort options in terms of ordering of books.
      Hope it helps! 🦊📚🤓

      @@readwithbintou Thank you for making the video! I've been part-time read on a Kindle for years, using the highlighting function but always struggling with various types of keyboard - whose only consistent feature has been how TERRIBLE and frustrating they are - but I don't think it really occurred to me to export and add annotations in another app. I need to try this system - my only concern is that I'll forget what I wanted to add to the various passages at the time 😂But perhaps if I can't remember, that highlight wasn't that important. 😄 Anyway, thanks for sharing - interesting and useful.

    • @readwithbintou
      @readwithbintou  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! By citation, do you mean like the page number? I don't think that the export will show that information. The only place I can find it is in the kindle notes document on the device itself. That document can also be exported

    I have...a book emergency. I have an elderly friend who's experienced a lot of very recent family tragedy. I wanted to send her a book and I actually found a couple that were very thoughtful and might be inspiring or uplifting. Then I realized that I purchased her these exact same books over her last tragedy and I need to regroup. I need something uplifting and inspiring that would appeal to any age group...that's not upsetting. I know it's a tall order. Oh...and I need quickly. Any ideas would be great ...I'm at a loss after my blunder.

    • @readwithbintou

      Hmm, that is a hard question. Here are some of my favorite fiction books this year:
      The Book of Lost Saints by Daniel Jose Older. I did a review on this book; it was one of the first books I read this year and I really enjoyed it.
      The Kiss Quotient is a fun contemporary romance book!
      (I'm realizing that I don't read many "Feel-good" books lol)
      As for nonfiction, I really enjoyed Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez and recently, The Story of More by Hope Jahren.
      I hope that was helpful

    • @Kindness808
      @Kindness808 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@readwithbintou Thanks, Bintou. Yes, when I rolled through a lot of my favorite books I quickly began to see that many had dark elements that wouldn't be well suited. Interesting because I consider myself a light weight when it comes to heavy/dark books (and remember no horror..) But even some of my fave mystery fiction start with a byline like, "Caroline realized she was looking at the dead body of a stranger..." Me: Yeah, no..... Thanks so much for weighing in. I really appreciate it. I'll give those a look.

  • @BookishIntrovert63
    @BookishIntrovert63 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is very interesting! Since you mainly read ebooks, what is the most you'll spend on an ebook? I just repurchased a Paperwhite....after debating whether I should get an Oasis or not.

    • @readwithbintou
      @readwithbintou  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats a good question...it depends. I am able to get probably 85% of the books I read for free through my library. I only buy an ebook if the wait at my library is too long or they don't have it and I don't want to wait for them to purchase it. Unfortunately, those kinds of ebooks are usually the expensive ones so I end up paying on average $10 for them. It only happens a handful of times a year, so I'm ok with it 😂

    • @BookishIntrovert63
      @BookishIntrovert63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      read.with.bintou I use my library 100% of the time and spend no more than $5 on Amazon. But you’re right sometimes the wait is too long at the library.

    • @readwithbintou
      @readwithbintou  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BookishIntrovert63 that is definitely the way to go! I'm always annoyed at having to spend more than a couple bucks on e-books because we're all so accustomed to them costing very little, but sometimes I'm left with no choice. 😅

    I have a question regarding the case. Does it make it hard for you to hold the Kindle for long periods of time?

    Excellent! Will share with my own students if you don't mind. (Don't delete the video Hihihi ) :-)
    I love to use the Kindle for annotating... a bit harder for PDFs though, I use Caliber to transform into a MOBI file (I think...) but that's not perfect either to get the reading experience of a printed PDF. It's bit is frustrating.
    Eventually... I'm supposed to have all my notes in "read.amazon.ca/notebook" but the pdf's don't show up. You see you've touched on a sore point! So I end up plugging my Kindle into my PC and access the notes from there.
    But when it comes to write and use those quotes... OMG so much better than the old days!

      @readwithbintou  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so glad you found it helpful!! I really stumbled upon that feature, but you're absolutely right- it's a game changer for using quotes.
      Annotating pdf documents on kindle is a nightmare I haven't tried lol. Using the iPad to annotate pdf documents has definitely been my preference- especially since the switch to remote learning. Helped me do my job so much easier.
