Riding Solo Through The Wicklow Mountains

  • Here I am again - off on my horse-riding adventures, leaving Tim behind to milk the sheep and mind everyone else while I’m gone. This time I’m in Wicklow - which is south of Dublin on the east side of Ireland. Winnie is an Irish Cob horse and well able for this sort of journey, but we are grateful to Lorraine of Glendalough House for putting both of us up for two nights. Thank you!
    We visited Glendalough - the tower you can see in the video is where the monks fled to when they were attacked.
    If you’re interested, the video I made last year about a trip we made to another part of Ireland, called the Burren, is here.. • Solo Horseriding Acros...
    Why do I do these trips on my own? Because they’re part of a childhood dream - me on my horse in the wilderness. And as Tim always says - happiness comes whilst chasing childhood dreams : - )
    Thank you very much Clissman Horse Caravans!

    Looks like a nice little trek.
    When I was a child my family and I used to visit the Glendalough area for a few days in the Summer. Fond memories of the place. I remember their was a water park call Clara Lara or something to that effect as well. I had fun there.

    Thank you. What a wonderful break.
    I use to do Orienteering on foot, never had a horse experience. Here we just dont have the land and tracks that lend themselves to this type of travel. Our rules are so strict about crossing private lands
    I have looked at a 9 day walk on the Wicklow Way through the mountains to Dublin. It is still on my possible list

    • @WayOutWestx2
      @WayOutWestx2  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Martha Anderson We always complain that access to land is so restricted here so it's some comfort to hear that it is even worse in some places! But at least you probably have wider roads? Safer for walkers and riders?

    • @marthaanderson2656
      @marthaanderson2656 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +WayOutWest Blowinblog
      No you dont see this type of riding culture here. We dont have the walking culture either. The lanes and paths which use to be how people got from village to village are long since gone.
      There are those that ride on parkland trails, some high into the mountains. Often the trails are wide enough for hikers and horses to pass together, often the hikers must yield to the side.

    Lovely video. Very relaxing and the countryside is just.... :)
    I never understand why you don´t take out the metal bit from the horse´s mouth when the horse is trying to eat.
    It must be easier to eat without a metal bar going through your mouth...

    • @WayOutWestx2
      @WayOutWestx2  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do take them out before their main meal, of course. But this was just a snack. It does look uncomfortable but the bit is behind the back teeth so they can eat quite well with it in.

    Your videos are so fairytale like. I do love them. But, with my horrible past history with horses, I feel like I’m a failure. I’m a soft spoken person and animals like me. But, horses seem to like to boss me around. Unless I’m in a small carriage. Have you ever thought about taking a small trap? Or does Ireland’s trails not really accommodate a two wheel trap?
