    You can also use a blade glove in your demonstration I don’t like safety device either

    These blades are super sharp so always use the hand-held safety guard. I tried slicing a rather tall potato without using the hand-held safety guard because I thought my hand was far enough from the blade. Anyway, the potato slipped and I wound up slicing the tip of my finger off. There was blood everywhere and I could not stop the bleeding and had to go to the hospital emergency room. I am right handed and it was the tip of the ring finger of my right hand that got sliced off. I basically had to do everything left handed for the next 6 weeks. Moral of the story - always use the hand-held safety guard no matter how tall the vegetable.

      They sell Kevlar gloves for mandoline slicer use. It'll protect your entire hand.

    Thank you for showing me this. I'm thinking about buying a mandolin slicer but I have cerebral palsy so I needed to be really safe because I'm not super coordinated. Thank you for showing me his promise and pitfalls.

    Thank you for the video. I purchased one at Costco and the instruction book was terrible. Box referred me to web site, web site couldn't find product, customer service said I was at wrong site, had to call an 800 number, no one answered 800 number...see where Im going here? Unbelievable for KitchenAid. You saved my life, thank you, great video.

    Thank you for doing this video - the instructions that came with this Mandoline were almost non existent. I watched your video and now feel confident that I can start using it without hurting myself. Good job!

    Thank you. It's good to see it in action. You could cut the zucchini in half to get a flat side when slicing long ways. This is what I plan to do as I bought this for that purpose.

    I just bought this from the thrift store and could not make sense of the directions. Because I watched this video I now know how to make it work! I put the blade in but it was too tall! You taking the "main blade" off showed me how this is done but it says nothing of removing anything so the blade will fit! I hate it when the instructions are not well-written enough to be helpful. Thank you for helping me!

    thanks for showing us how. Wonder why my slicer came with 3 blades only and no bowl at all. I ordered from amazon. The slicing blade is so sharp giving me goosebump :)

    Thank you so much for you demonstration of the Kitchen Aid Mandoline slicer. I somehow lost the instructions. I should have watched your demo first before using the product and I would not have sliced my thumb. It was so painful but I must say that before the cut incident I was enjoying the cucumber slices.. again I say,
    Thank you from St. Paul, MN

    Thank you! I’ve had my as a gift for over a year and didn’t know how to use it to its full advantages because the directions were abysmal to say the least. Now I’m full of confidence and indeed the safety issues are important!

    Wished you would have showed a slice of one vegetable at all the different thickness. Laid them side by so we could see the difference. I said the thickness but I needed to see them. Otherwise your presentation was really informative.

    Excellent Video -- This video proves 2 points I saw while using this slicer -- First, with items like carrots it is easier to use it without a guard and with your hands. Given the sharpness of this blade (pretty much razor), I agree with the presenter that its very dangerous and totally NOT recommended to use the slice like this BUT it was so inconvenient and clumsy to use the guard and the holder with smaller items. Second, to be safe (and with this thing I definitely recommend it), you need to make sure the food fits in the holder. The drawback is that as you saw there appears always to be small pieces that are wasted at the end (of course you can cut these up by hand)

    • @arstockm
      @arstockm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please do not waste the nubbins/ends. I put them in a zip-lock bag & freeze to save for use when I make soup or broth.

    I have a question and a comment. How does it work for tomatoes? Is it share enough to make nice slices, or does it just squish them? Also, with something like a carrot or zucchini, couldnt you just cut the zuchinni in half and put the two chunks in the holder so that it's not so long and that way you can still use the holder/guard and be safe?

    • @catcar9157
      @catcar9157 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say if it is a firm tomato you could, but not if it’s soft
