Tbh the original video with Erykah Badu and Eve is already so good... rounded off with a sweet drum topping. I'm not sure if it's possible to improve on this particular song.
This is what hip hop/rap SHOULD be! No fake, auto tuned, all electronic soundin B.S! REAL musicians, with REAL lyrics, from REAL people! Talent. Flowin from a true MC. This is real.
Not really. I think in a way, electronic helped shape the hiphop it self. Especially in 00s. Because of "electronic B.S" you said, we can get My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which is the best hiphop album of the decade. So real instruments or electronic, both way complement each other i think.
@@ethanholcomb1920 I agree. If you're interested, I recommend checking out this group called Nurdy Tunes, they combine different genres with the modern-day hip-hop type of music and it sounds good IMO
@@MegaElias1984 If you put aside rapping/vocals, he's actually right. What hip hop groups can play instruments to a standard equalling The Roots here? There aren't many that can. I know I'm a little late with my comment. You're right this is the best version of this song. Captain Kirt did the damn thang. And Black Thought never disappoint. Kudos!
captain Kirk is awesome wish i could see more black guitarist rip it like that so far all I can think of is slash, donney liles from the isley brothers and rapheal sadiq. i forgot about lenny kravits too

WHEW!! KIRK!!!! SICKNESS!!! I LIKE HIS SCATTING! Reminds me of Al Jarreau! Yo, I like the look ?love had when they dropped from the jam back to the chorus @ the end. It's that reality that they are a real band, and things aren't perfect just like any real band. :D
You hear drums like Questlove's on any other group's track, you know it's layered. You hear flow like the Thought on any other group's track, you know it's been stitched. Anybody who's aware of the classics knows that only the foundation plays like this.
1st word caught me was " Ethiopian queen " in this song years ago and I've come to love .Everything about it on top of my love to rap and mcees like The Roots Kirk's Jazz, classy poetry. Damn everything in one track. This's magic and dislikers y'all can't even make a bit of this a reality.
Saw them back in 90's live at Metro in Chicago few times and thought this is hot back then was on fire with Hub on bass he could make the Bass guitar sound like a electric guitar amazing player . #Roots4ever
First verse he sounds like will.i.am Seconds verse - Wale Third verse - 2Pac It's amazing how he can change up his style so much. You add those three artists together and you get a great musician like Black Thought
It's March 2024 and this ish still sounds good af!

Right, that boy cold af
Nima Mousavi Real Drum and Bass
Yes but left lusting over the tuba
Quest love is sick.
Every single time I see that great musician, I just have to think about him in that Chappelle's show sketch where he brushes his hair xD
One of the best drummers ever
Julia King. Questlove the Drummer is Sick!!!
I think it was diagnosed as type 2 diabetes.
It took me waaay too long to get that hahaha
Holy crap, Quest's syncopation is stunning :D

I swear The Roots are the most underrated band. Ish is crazy. Black Thought is thee i
Black Thought is perhaps the best MC working right now. We love you back home in Illadel, my dude!

Ya’ll Black Thought and Questo Killed it!!!!!!
This is a ruthless performance, epidemic of the groove. They really brought it out on this one
Listen to the tuba though...A FREAKIN TUBA!!! Daaaaaang Roots Crew killing me with this version of "You Got Me."
Soosaphone!
THIS is what hip-hop should sound like!!!!!!
One of the best rappers ever, and then to play as a full live band and not over a hip hop track, and solid musicians, these guys are very unique.
This is the best version I've ever heard.... love it so much.... wicked!! Roots crew crushin' it!
This MUSIC is needed more now then ever!!
I'll die happy if I ever get the chance to see the roots live

I live in LA so that's kinda far for me! sounds cool though.
but I actually saw the roots live on new years day out here in cali :)
Facts!!!
The roots are one of the best hip hop bands of all time hands down
Saw them in Glasgow in 2006 and it was both the loudest and the best gig I've ever been to.
Dang, The Roots got the groove. I can feel the music just watching them play
I been looking for this for hoursssss
Captain Kirk killed that solo. This perhaps the best version of this song they've done
