Hey Guys! I'm back to explore the world of BL manga! This time I’m reading ‘The Uninvited Cat and His Fickle Master’. Because so many people commented on my last video that I should read 'Shounen-Ai' I decided to try that this time around... or so I thought? This manga was a lot different than the last one and was definitely full of surprises. I hope you enjoy the video :)

I recommend ‘Here U Are’. Its really good and I think you’ll enjoy it! I’m not sure it’s shounen ai but I do think it is coming from my memory of the manhua. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you for the video Perth!

Here you are is a beautiful manhua but kind of a slow burn and as op stated pretty long too but it's also shounen ai only the very last chapters or extra chapters/art had one or two explicit scenes upon the request of readers (i think)

A manga I really love that they actually made into a drama is Semantic Error, Heaven's Official Blessing (which they also made into an animated series) is one of my cousins favorite and I've read a bit of it, and it's so good. I highly recommend these two. I also wanted to say your American accent is good.
I think Semantic Error might break him LOL. It's waaaaaaay too smutty XD Heanven's Official Blessing though is so amazing! I recommend this as well!

I'm fujoshi and for me the manwas and animes and yaoi in general are divided into 3 categories:
-Shonen Ai: which is basically pure romanticism there is nothing +18, if anything a handshake and a kiss until the end.
-Yaoi: which is basically what P' Perth saw today that it is a love story with more bed scenes, although in many yaoi, as well as in BL series, some pass from the kiss to the next day and you imagine what happened since they censor it🤷🏻♀️.
and finally...........
- Hentai Yaoi: what is basically like what you read last time, hentai yaoi has a bit of history and plot but is more focused on sex all the time and is explicit about everything.
at least that's how I would divide the categories 🤷🏻♀️🤭

We actually don't use those terms--it's all just BL!
"Shonen Ai" was a term used way back in the 70s, but now has negative connotations, so please don't use them.
"Yaoi" was a term that came about to refer to plotless doujinshi, and erroneously was used by westerners to refer to m/m romance comics. It's also no longer used
"Hentai Yaoi" isn't really a term that anyone uses. People just tag things as "R18" if there's a focus on explicit sex.
Now, as for terms that we DO use:
BL refers to all m/m comics, for audiences of all genders.
Geicomi, or gay manga, is specifically LGBTQA+ manga by and for queer people. BL and Geicomi creators sometimes cross over in each others' domains. I highly recommend reading the many interviews Gengoroh Tagame has done on BL and geicomi, and the history of gay manga in Japan!
@@tofu6573 I haven't heard of geicomi or gaymanga being used as a term so thanks for letting us know. But I knew shounen ai and yaoi are no longer used as they are very outdated and ahem so called 'unprofessional'. But some readers or people still use these terms since they haven't read comments regarding the new changes or they have gotten used to saying the old terms.
Anyway, I wish Asian gay manga written by gay creators were more popular and translated. Also, as you said there is definitely some blurring between BL made for straight and gay/queer audiences. However, I'm so glad we do have Western LGBT+ and BL/GL comics that are available on platforms such as Tapas and Webtoons definitely written with a lgbt+ audiences in mind.
@@sunnyv7745 I wouldn't discredit Asian BL, though! In fact, several geicomi artists have also done BL/straight works, and encourage the fact that there's less rigidity in regards to "xyz has to be this way if it's drawn by someone of this gender". Again, I really recommend reading Gengoroh Tagame's interview at TCAF about how the crossover between BL and geicomi works is good, and that trying to categorize works by how sexual they are in terms of representation is kind of detrimental to progress!

I would also recommend Heesu in Class 2, it's a Korean BL Manhwa but the Story is a bit longer. I also started reading Kieta Hatsukoi and it's super sweet and funny, but also a bit longer xD
ahh yes!! you dont know how many times this manhwa has made me squeal from all the fluffiness!! and the art style just adds onto the wholesome atmosphere 😭💖🌸

I think you'd really like Blue Flag though! It reads like a Shoujo manga, but it has queer characters and relationships.

Sasaki and Miyano is a must! Such an adorable and fun manga, one of my all-time favorites! I mostly read Manhwa because I like the art style and colors a lot and I mostly read explicit stuff but I love the soft ones just as much :)

actually the lighter types of bl mangas are tagged as "fluff" or "lemon"...
Shounen Ai is just literally "Boy Love" in romanized japanese... so.. 😅
If it's Shounen Ai, it can technically go through the entire sub-genre spectrum even to a yaoi sub-genre... I suggest trying the lemons, the fluffs or even one-shots for the cutesy stuffs 😅😅😅

I was eating when I heard his imitation of sound effects I almost choked from laughing so much
I have read quite a few bl Mangas and they were all designated Yaoi, but had different levels of "spiciness". My absolute favorite is a Korean Manga named "Unintentional Love Story". It is very sweet and a great love story, it focuses on the relationship more so than the physical part, from getting to know each other, falling in love and navigating some stormy waters and misunderstandings and one very big lie. Yes, there is the eventual resolution and happy ending. While the story is pretty typical, the details and the way both men deal with the problems that come up is pretty cool and interesting. They also did a very well executed web series with the same name and I just fell hard for the portrayals of both characters, it was very beautiful and moving and the older man especially was great, played by Cha Seowon (his hugs look so cozy and warm) and the younger man was played by Gongchan. Highly recommend both the Manga and the series, which you can binge watch as it is finished. Hope you have time to check out both and enjoy!
