I was given the opportunity to play Minnesota Fats, Feb. 27, 1993. He never shuts up, made me nervous, but I was still 2 balls ahead. Took my shot at the 8 ball, and it hung at the left corner pocket, and wouldn't drop in. So I lost. But it was still a privilege to have played him. Rich
We need more of this in pool today. The hustlers the con men, the side shows. Not this sanitized version we have today........ooooohhhhhh don't look at me I might miss. Wa wa wa. Pool is a game not a sport.
I remember watching this on tv..I was maybe around 14. Fats was a legend and a hustler, but he also never shut the F up lol. Always sharing his opponent. Mosconi was a class act all the way. You could tell Fats was from the streets. In this day and age they’d never put up with crap like this, but for the time, it was all about entertainment.
Fats was great fun to watch and listen to. Made those rolling cue ball and object balls better than anybody. Always put on a great show. Talked a lot of trash while shooting and did both well. More interesting than most people and he loved the animals. RIp
I saw Mosconi play the University Of Florida student champ in the summer of '68 at UFL. Straight pool to 150, the student made a few balls and missed, Mosconi ran 150.
@@rickywaddell49 Yes, I'm well aware of their comparative abilities. I lived and breathed billiards for decades and played APA league when I was younger, leveled and recovered tables and repaired cues. I really miss it but health problems from Agent Orange exposure finally caught up with me.
@@ronzoni10001 In 14.1 maybe. Efren Reyes is so knowledgeable about so many different variations of the game, and techniques like kicks, that he'd probably have the advantage, if both were matched up in their prime. (IMO.)
Right. I was around when Cosell was at the height of his career, and I never once heard him called Howie. Maybe to his friends or family, I don't know.
Fatty, as the top players called him all his life, was a phoney. good showman and entertainer but never a top level player. word is that back in the day he was mostly just good at matching up and getting a spot from his opponent
Both great players but today they’d get destroyed against players like Efren,SVB extra Willy was a stand up guy , fats talked a lot a top 7 tap player today would beat him
On what basis are you asserting this? Fats wouldn't last a second, that's true. But Moscone would not get destroyed. In straight pool Wille would have decimated both Efren and SVB, no doubt about it.
Rudolph Wanderone was a liar, a poseur, and a mediocre pool player. He wasn't qualified to carry Moscone's cue case, let alone play him. Also, he was not Minnesota Fats OR the player Walter Tevis, the novelist, based his character on.
@@ChuckNorrisUltra That would be a real surprise....Fats died in 1996. His book, "The Bank Shot and other Great Robberies" is a fun read, even though he never was a top player.
Seems a bit harsh to lose the game, set, AND match just because he couldn't get to the 8 ball due to Willie's balls being in the way. I'd rather see Willie just get ball in hand. That's the way at least SOME leagues are doing it now.
Want to see more of Fatso tell me in the comments or come to sports-vids.com and let me know there!!
Pools definitely not a sport it's a game of skill right
Minnesota Fats, what a name. Great Retro-Video plus Howie Cosell with the call, this is a classic.
Yead i love this clip

Fats greatest hustle was convincing people he was the best player to ever play.
Remember watching these guy when i was a kid.

Pool is a game not a sport.
1st watched this in '66 during summer school
Fats was a great shit talker
Yeah he was. Its really shakes Mosconi too. Makes it so much better.
Pools not a sport it's a game of skill and nonsense
@@matimus100 I think of billiards as a game of chess and physics combined.
What a legendary rivalry. Makes me proud to play pool.

Minnesota Fats, Mike Siegel, Earl Strickland... legends of pool who are great to watch, but horrible to hear. haha
These guys would hate getting beat by all the great Philippino players of today.
Willie would have held his own even against Reyes.

What year is this
Jeesh! Hasn't anyone got a clear rip of this gem?
It is Howard Cosell. Not Howie.😂

Agreed. He was just an obnoxious loudmouth as well.
If it had been straight pool.....Willie would have cleaned his clock..!!
Willie cleaned his clock at everything they played.. fats was a phony
Fats was a crumb.
Mosconi's a square
Yeah he is and Fats is a real Hustler
That's my uncle.
That's awesome. RIP
Yeah 15 time in a row 19 time overall straight pool world champion, square what?
And Fats is a gobshite and a loser🤷🏼♂️

Rudolph wanderone not the greatest player "that's Willie" but he was the best talker 😅

Hopefully he doesn't read this.

He talks a lot and doesn't play this is why we don't allow people like this playing on camera
Clean this up then let's watch
These players would not have a chance now days lol. Pro players in 2024 would just run over these old school players.
Not Moscone, they wouldn't.
Showboating and mouthing off iits a wonder fats was never shot
What a loudmouth
Too much BS to watch.
