Big shout out to my friend Taiwo for shooting this video with me! Make sure to like and subscribe for more tips, and thanks for stopping by the channel!
Great guidance here, lower level players always assume that table tennis is spin vs spin but blocking can be so crucial in winning games, if you get the chance watch some videos of Chris Doran, he plays most of his game blocking, definitely some tips to pickup from him, love the content
@@ParrotsTT ooh thanks for the shout out I love watching different playstyles 👀 and thanks for stopping by the channel! The comment really helps me out 🙏🏻🏓
As a 2000 player who really struggled with blocking in my first year and a half playing this is amazing advice. In matches it's great to counter the way your doing, but developing consistency and touch in the block is the most important. Taiwo's advice is perfect and the same that any other coach has given me, but try watching Fan Zhendong blocking as he is very stable, and try to mimic it. Great video, hope to see more with Taiwo.
@@olfiru2336 Hey thanks for the comment! 🙏🏻 Really helps out the channel. And totally agree, going to work on the consistent block now so I can be like FZD 😎
A simple block can be very difficult to return if placed tactically on the table … during practice we try to keep the ball in the same place, in game situations just by blocking the super fast top spin with the right set up placement can put the opponent in uncomfortable situations. For winning basic is more required than fancy touches. Super helpful video, thanks for posting
Saw your Reddit post and came here. At 3.24 onwards, you had a really good few sessions of blocking. Once you get this down to become second nature, it will become another weapon in your arsenal. The block basically allows you to use the opponent's power and redirect the shot to wherever you want it to go, and if done right, takes away time from them.
What’s the point of paying these coaches if you just ignore their coaching? It was the same with the olympic lady. Kinda sad that the high level guy couldn’t create strong enough spins to prove his point so we audiences can learn something.
@@kenji2787 I'm working hard to improve my game every day, it takes time but I'm getting there. Thanks so much for watching all of my videos, the comments help really help the channel 🙏🏻🏓
It takes time to force your muscle memory to follow the right technique. Every person is different. Some quick adapt. Some take time. Keep it up bro! Sooner you will become a TT player the apply the best technique that suit your physical and your style.
I think part of the issue is that you aren't moving your feet. You have to move like a goalie, so the ball hits the center of your paddle and you aren't reaching for the ball. Then you make a small stroke like you are knocking on a door. At the end your stroke is still too big of a movement for a block.
Btw , a lot of recreation player even 1800 can’t block properly ! Because they are scared to push the ball to the net so they add spin ! Try to block the ball early! Close to the first bound, you will notice fantastic results
I don't know who these people are but saw no appreciable improvement here. There may be a little communication issue but the student keeps talking as if he understands when he clearly doesn't.
@@robert2780 basically I was trying to spin the ball back with my arm and wrist, and he tells me that I need to hold the ball on my racket instead of trying to send it back spinny. So less arm/wrist motion and more soft contact. Hope this helps 🙏🏻🏓
you shouldn't be using any wrist on the block. it should be like a mini 1-inch truls moregardh style punch, you're still going up with it. you should be punching slightly down even
and watch Adeyinka at 1:56, that's the proper way to block in drills. in game do whatever you want, but for drills you should be doing a 1-inch punch, don't go upwards
It also depends on the rubber. I had a rather soft rubber and it needed a soft counterspin hit. Now I play a hard rubber and it's much easier to punch with it like Truls
Really helpful, please post more training with Taiwo as he gave really good advices.

Blocking is pushing softly forward but do not spin the ball up !
In your case , don’t move the arm up , move forward !
