Love your Christmas plans!! They sound so cozy and special!! We’re planning on doing A Christmas Carol novel study and we always do lots for the solstice too!! Baking Sun Bread has been a tradition since we did that B&R book seed years ago! It’s one of our faves!! Also, have you ever looked into Logic of English for your son? It’s similar to AAR, but it’s more game-based or physical- like jump to each phonogram! My 3 active boys have done so well with it!! If you like RSM, then Logic of English might align with your style too!
@@MrsPerdueArt thanks for watching! I’m hoping to introduce my kids to A Christmas Carol on audio (a version from AO) this year. Hope your study goes well! Glad to hear you liked Sun Bread Book Seeds! I havent looked into Logic of English but I do see it widely used. I think, for now, I have a good plan for my son. After we finish AAR Pre, I’ve actually decided to bring in a vintage program called Foundational Phonics before venturing into Alpha Phonics and if we are needing more games, SCM Delightful Reading 1 was so good for my daughter. Thank you for your tips and insight though!
You have quickly become one of my favourite homeschool TH-camrs! I have been binge watching all your videos ❤ Your daughter reminds me SO much of my oldest son who is 6. I would love to see how your daily rhythm looks. It’s something we have struggled with and end up homeschooling at all sorts of random different times throughout the day which has then made it really hard to get very much done and often ends up being just the bare minimum. You seem to fit in so many different things into your days, I’d really love to add in some unit studies like you have done but struggling to find the time in the day. Any tips would be great! Thank you for sharing such wonderful content ❤
@@serenafreitas63 hello! That is very sweet and feels great to hear. Thank you. I think there are a few main things that we do that has created success and consistency. One is beginning school everyday at 9am. Sometimes it gets pushed to 9:15 or 9:20 but if I don’t have the reigns on when we start, I will really struggle to complete what needs to be done. We are most alert in the morning. Even squeezing in piano practice or independent reading later in the day is like pulling teeth. The 2nd thing that has brought success is planning ahead. I plan ahead our units at the beginning of the year (the start date does change often but at least I have or have made plans for the resources I need). About 3 weeks before the unit will begin, I have started typing up a detailed week by week schedule of the unit so all I need to do is follow the bullet points for that lesson. An easier option would be to NOT DIY your own unit 🙈 and buy one pre planned. One other thing I do before the beginning of the next week is to write out our schedule in my planner and to prepare all of the little miscellaneous manipulatives and project pieces that our curriculum calls for that week so that I am not searching for annoying little things the day of the lesson. Lastly, I am obsessed with homeschooling and do think it takes a level of obsession to do as much as I try to do. I have nothing against open and go curriculums bc, geez, that looks a lot easier!😅 I have a Day in the Life video from maybe 8 weeks ago you could watch if you haven’t seen it yet! I’m planning on doing another since some of our curriculum has changed since then.
@ thank you so much for the tips! Definitely agree you need to be obsessed with homeschool! I am also so obsessed and spend all my spare time researching and collecting so many different homeschool resources but for some reason I just struggle so much to implement them 😆 it is partly because my son is very active and even when I try to make things fun he still just wants to go off and climb trees 😅 my 4 year old son is a different story and loves anything to do with “school” even though he’s still young and it’s minimal. My oldest has never ever been interested in anything to do with school but what’s funny is he has an amazing attention span when it comes to listening to stories 🤷🏼♀️ he could listen for hours so we might have to try some of the hearth magic book studies that you have done. What would you do if when you told your kids it was time to start homeschool they refused and said they didn’t want to?
@ oh I definitely didn’t say that my oldest (2nd grade) likes school🫣 There are some things we do that she really likes but she would gladly skip most of it. American Girl History has been a godsend for us and chapter book read alouds, typically. But she hates math and learning to read. Teaching her how to read has been, frankly, terrible. I cannot wait for that part to be done. My four year old, now five, is like yours. He loves math and reading and most of the projects we do. We have had to get much firmer in our parenting styles since beginning school. We are typically more gentle and give our children a lot of freedoms but that has changed with school. 9am, hair brushed, teeth brushed, and meet me at the table. They know school could go to 12 but can end early if she pays attention. Some days are great, some are bad. Often times I separate them for independent subjects but I have my husband home which helps a lot.
@@ashleymurphy4813 You are definitely right, consistency is for sure where we are lacking. I think we need to get a bit more strict when it comes to school as well. I’ve never really been that way in any part of parenting either but I can see it affecting our schooling journey. We are finishing up our second homeschool year now (in Australia) so I’m going to take your advice on board and do a really good plan for next year! Thank you so much xx also reading for us has also been the hardest thing ever and I can’t even count the amount of different “curriculums” we have tried so your video on that was so helpful to see we are not alone ❤️
