      Getting out and moving is the best thing a person can do.... no matter what. Sounds Like my surgery won't happen until March.

      Not much to them.... a vacuum valve and a vacuum chamber.... that's about it. This is the third Bendix brake booster I have restored.

    Good video on the booster. Guess that improperly installed boot was indications the assemblyman had TGIF on his mind. Looking forward to the cleaning, painting and assembly. Hang in there Howard.

    I was surprised to see how similar in construction that Bendix brake booster is to the older Bendix treadle vac. The treadle vac in my Oldsmobile 88 was doing something very similar to your Chevy. The brakes would occasionally hang up. If you pulled up on the pedal slightly they would release. After a thorough rebuild of the booster that problem went away. Good luck with your surgery and health things, will be praying for you.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The treadle vac booster for some reason always had rebuild kits available. They were common on 58 and older Chevy's with power brakes... but were totally different parts, than in my booster. It took a long time for 59 and 60 stuff to be reproduced. Even 61 and up, stuff was reproduced before 59 and 60 parts. Back in the 80's not many people wanted 59 or 60 Chevy's, so very little was reproduced until the early to mid 90's. Still to this day, there are a lot of parts people want, that are not reproduced for the 59 and 60 Chevy.
      I suspect brake fluid leaked into it, causing rubber seals to swell, maybe. I did replace a master cylinder about 20 years ago, because it started leaking into the booster. I did clean the booster out good, but the fluid could have got sucked into the ports where the rubber seals are. It's been acting up about four or five years now. It drives me nuts, so that's why I am finally fixing it.
      Thank you fro your prayers. They help.

    Hi Howard, sorry to hear your surgery was delayed, so frustrating. Good to see another project started! I wanted to ask what “monetize” means when it refers to your videos? Thank you, have a nice weekend.👍

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing was delayed, it just the soonest I can get it done. Monetize is the money I make off my video. I earn money from ad's that play on my videos. If I use anything copyrighted, then TH-cam won't run ad's on that video, or they will send what I make to the copyright holder.... so I avoid using any copyrighted music, which is 99% of music out there.

    Hey Howard, I’m really interested in getting the details of your ratcheting screwdriver! That’s one tool I don’t have but I can see by your video it would really come in handy. Thanks for the info and thanks for the video! Praying for you!

      I picked that ratchet handle for screwdriver tips at my local Advanced Auto Parts. I saw it on an end cap, why waiting to check out, and grabbed it. I love it and use it all the time. Thank you for your prayers.

      Howard, you won’t believe it, but I went to my local Advance Auto today. I walked in about 4 steps and found that same ratcheting screwdriver set! I couldn’t believe it. Thanks for showing it and telling me how to find it. I really appreciate it!

    do you have the NOS box still or will you be tossing that?

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still have the box, with the NOS set up in it still. "IF" I use the NOS setup, I'll mail you the box. This is a booster off a parts car, from back in the late 80's. It was a super clean 1960 Impala four door sedan that a friend owned. He had it for sale in his front yard.... a drunk ran off the road t-boning it, totaling it. He parted it out about a year later, once he realized it was not repairable. The passenger side doors were pushed into the transmission tunnel. I got the brake booster.... someone already removed the master cylinder, cutting the pushrod.... I got all the EZI glass and Turboglide transmission off it. He kept the 348 for another one of his projects, a 59 two door Biscayne. Another friend got the A/C off it. It was a really loaded car for it's era. It was such a shame to see it destroyed by a drunk, though he really did part everything good off it. That was in the day, where nothing was reproduced for this era car..... so the parts went super quick, as everything on it was like new, that was not smashed. Surprisingly the door glass was not broken, but I had to cut the door to get it out as they were destroyed. It was a Ford Tempo that smashed into it.

      @@IowaClassicCars I'll keep you in mind when I use that kit. I have been saving it for a 59 Parkwood project. Got to have power brakes, and power steering...... I'v been spoiled with it in the Bel Air..... now I don't want an old car without either one anymore!

    Is the plunger in the booster the same on a ‘55 as a ‘59?

      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure.... some of the boosters were different on the older models..... unless it looks the same as mine, I really don't know.
