    I already have 2 SPL meters. The going db level is 75db, and if you want the subs to run a little hot, 80 to 82db! I have Techno Dad’s/Joe n Tell’s Spatial Audio Calibration Disc, to calibrate my system!

    Thanks for this. It made me get out the manual for my 2002 vintage RadioShack 33-2055A. The functions and range (32-10khz) are similar, but the interface, memory and display are what you'd expect from the age. Heck, I didn't even know it had continuous monitoring then recall of min and max until tonight 🙃

    I like the size of the unit nice and small easy to use and I think the light is a plus because I don’t want to have the lights on when I’m setting the db using the phone app which is ok but a call would interfere with my reading and I have to do it again. Another great video and product. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    Thanks so much for the great video! I just bought the same meter. However, it seems like even 75db per channel is way to loud for my smaller living room. Maybe I should shoot for 65db? I sit approximately 9ft from my TV. Using definitive technology bp9060 and CS-9060 for L,C,R. Definitive Technology BP2X surround L/R.
    What type of microphone stand would you recommend using? Thanks again for any further assistance

    • @Kpaceguy
      @Kpaceguy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's just a reference point. You use this number to make sure your speakers have the ability to play that loud but you definitely don't have to turn the volume up that loud when watching

      @BrendanEvansX well when you run calibration it should have you doing at least 5 positions. In the MLP and everything around it

    I read you should be pointing the spl meter upwards when measuring spl.

    • @Kpaceguy
      @Kpaceguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically, you point traditional mics up in the air because the physical microphone holes are on the side. So to face the mic hole forward, you face the mic housing up. If your mic is omni directional then point out up like you're mentioning

    Fun review.
    In my opinion don't waste money and time on this device if you don't need something that is mobile..
    Save up some more and get a calibrated measurement microphone and hook it up to your computer with freeware REW.
    Now you will be able to learn something. You will easily do the same dB measurements from each speaker. You will get dB from ~10 Hz to 20 kHz in a graph that is more valuable. So you can see the dB at every dB and see dips or peaks from each speaker and NOT something silly as A, B, C and D weight dB they don't measure dB at the same level as a calibrated microphone that is gain 0 dB in it's whole frequency range and that specific individual microphone is calibrated and compensated to be just that.
    This dB microphone is measuring -50 dB (!) at 20 Hz for A weight and for C weight we have -4 dB as a example.
    You can verify that your software is doing the same thing on left and right and there is no software issues in newer calibration sessions or software versions from Dirac and the alikes.
    The thing to note sound speed (and dB) varies with temperature and humidity basic knowledge. (That is one example what I meant with learning.)
    So that is why you got those measurements also in your dB meter. So don't heat up the device with your hands that will give you false readings.
    For example if you want to measure the neighbors fan noise (that is constant) but at different temperatures or humidity you can document those dB measurements so that is a use-cases that mobility is nice to have.

    That's a good tool to time align the subwoofers to the front drivers at the seating position. Basically, it gives a smooth transition from the subwoofers to the front drivers. Thus getting a flat response. I've been using REW (Room EQ Wizard) to accomplish that. I think that SPL meter is cool. I'll just go ahead and buy it. Good presentation. 👍🏿👌🏿
