Thank you Tom ! I love your videos, and keep sharing them to friends :) Little question, for shoulder work do you prefer Pocket 4K + a Shoulder Kit or Ursa Mini Pro + Shoulder kit ?
Tom, your channel is inspiring, I often use your opinions to buy my gear, especially when it comes to lenses. Also your Mise-en-scene is always first class. I have another solution for getting power and it doesn't cost much and can be used indoors and sometimes outdoors, but you probably want to mount your camera on a tripod, which is usual for film cameras - the BMP4kCC is definitely not a run and gun camera, right? - you can get a GH5 with the latest firmware for that. Anyway my solution for getting power in non-run and gun shoots is to simply use the available electricity source. All you need is your included charger , a long extension cord and some gaffa tape. This supplies unlimited hours of shooting, so I suggest make use of that when you can, and keep your E6 's, or your E7 battery pack, (which you mount under your camera), if you have no power source or you are always moving around. The E7 Battery packs are about 300 US dollars I think, I am in Australia? Anyway, in summary I suggest, use existing power first then your E6's or E7's if you need to move around a lot or when there is no power source. Good luck, hope that helps. Keep up the brilliant work.
Yea but I shot yesterday and my battery died during a shoot and I lost the footage, I lost the current footage while recording but also everything else I shit before, weird it didn't happen like That before, normally you only lose what your recording at the moment but yesterday every clip was going once I changed batteries. I do hate that it goes from 50% to 2% in a minute or so.
@@veganchasers2213 Sounds like a faulty battery, is it 3rd party? On the GH5 launch many companies had to release new batteries because of issues with corruption.
Tom, I had to laugh when you talked about the film days and having only a few minutes runtime between magazine changes. We ARE so spoiled! I think it's a good thing to stop and think about your next scene or next take, before surging ahead. Changing a battery a couple times during a shoot can help clear your head. People need to learn patience, and that art cannot be rushed.
Tom thank you life saver, 1 question when doing this set up, do i take the canon battery out of the camera or i can leave in camera? Would it effect anything?
Hi Tom. Thank you for this video and the intro to soldering! Quick note: I noticed the USB-C port can be used to charge the battery while the camera is switched off. But you cannot charge the battery when the camera is switched on and you cannot switch on the camera without a battery in it.
Great video, Tom! Nice points about not spending the money on the BM DC power cable and just soldering new connections. Much more versatile and easier power options.
Hi Tom, Thanks for all you do sir. Blackmagic do say the USB port is only helpful power-wise for CHARGING batteries rather than powering the camera. I was disappointed a little when I read that, but then I think I'll be heading down the SSD media route anyway. Thanks for your helpful suggestions as always :)
As an A7SII videographer who shoots every day, I generally get about 30-40 mins out of each Sony NP-FW50 battery. Short battery life is not a new thing, nor is it a deal breaker. Better internal audio is far more important to me!
I have seen dummy battery adapters is there a slot on the bottom for the cable to hang out of the dummy battery or would I have to keep the battery door open?
Hi! Great video, thanks for the info. I have a question for you though. I'm thinking of buying a BMPCC 4K for myself. If I put a cage on it and then mount an ssd and a battery such as shown at 3:59, will I be able to install this setup on a DJI Ronin S or not? Thank you in advance.
The odds of you seeing this are very slim… however, you seem to have the DIY abilities and attitude so I’d LOVE to see your take on simply wiring a three cheap 20k mAh battery packs in series to give ~15V 2.4A together to power this system. (I could be very wrong in my ideas, but I’d love to hear your take on this)
Azam Karnik I have it, and it’s awesome! It gives me almost 4 hours of use, and is a lot lighter than I thought it would be. The ability to quick-release-mount it to the camera and simultaneously to a tripod is my favorite part about it 👍🏼
@@alexvilloria you think it's worth the price compared to toms $30 battery that last 3hours? I wouldn't do the diy cable hack since they have those cables from China, just takes a bit to get here to the U.S.
the reason why the portable battery packs don't work into the USB C @7:50 is because they don't provide 12v to the USB , they provide it to the barrel type connector on the pack. You can try this into the AC adaptor hack and it should work.
Hi bro, I'm a faithful follower of yours. I admit your work, and well I was wondering if for this issue of the battery for the bmppc it serves me a Jump Starter 20.000 Mah 12v Power Bank

Hey man, nice solutions. A tend to agree that regular canon batteries are the best way to go. But how long do the last when an external hard drive is plugged in?
The camera cannot be powered through USB-C while it is turned on - it can only charge the LP-E6 battery, while the camera is OFF. (I checked and confirmed this in the user manual). I did a shoot with a USB power bank plugged in, and I squeezed out more runtime with the LP-E6 batteries. I just had to turn the camera off between shots, and it started charging the LP-E6 from the USB power bank. I ended up going with the exact 12V battery you showed, combined with a JuiceBox cable. By my calculations, the original Canon LP-E6 batteries at 1800-2600 mAh at 7.2 volts gets you about 18-watt hours. The 12V battery at 10,000 mAh comes out to something like 75 watt-hours, so if the original battery works for 40 mins, the 12V battery should work for 2-3 hours in theory.
@TomAntos what if you run the Canon battery and charge it at the same time with a larger battery bank? I currently do this with one of my cameras running 4k and get 6 hours easily.
Hi tom! Did you ever try using this battery: Baxxtar PRO - PLUS Battery for Sony NP-F970 (10500mAh)? I've heard great and bad stuff about it... Would love some help! Thx :)
Im going with sony npf battery once I finally gets the camera. I love large vmount batteries but the point of this camera is to keep it small. Will be nice with a small camera for gimbals for a change.
I'm a bit confused about this 12V power supply. The LP-E6 gives you 7.2V and that is the default which comes with the camera and even the commonly used Sony F970 battery (which 3rd party companies make baseplates for) gives you 7.2V. So how am I going to be able to use any of these batteries for the BMPCC4k? It may be the lack of my knowledge about electricity but I just cannot get this. Any explanations are welcome!
After many weeks of deliberation and research, I think I will just go to a small supply of LPE6 batteries, along with a DC power bank/cable as you have outlined here with cheap high Wh batteries as a backup/ability to recharge batteries on the go. And also some battery banks that use 18650 batteries into 12V I have also been looking at high capacity phone/laptop power banks that output 12V, and possibly seeing if I can go from USB-C on the bank to the 12V connector, does this seem like a plausible solution? Thanks for another great video! Cleared up some questions I was having.
I don't mind have a bunch of Canon LP batteries. My only question: Is there a fast charge solution? I'd have to buy a bunch of them and they take so long to charge! Also, since my rig also includes an external monitor that uses the same batteries, that means I use 3 times as many batteries as a normal person. That's a lot of batteries to charge! Any ideas?
In the manual, it says when the camera is off you can recharge the LP 6 battery via USB C , it wasn't mention that you can power the camera via the USB type C port.
If you mean a battery backup with an AC outlet, yeah, you could probably plug the wall adapter into that. Sounds like a lot to lug around, though, unless you're shooting for a long time in the woods or something.
Thank you and I appreciate it but nobody really has all this stuff laying around in their kitchen cabinets. But I will definitely try this if I need to.
Hi Tom. I recently bought my BMPCC4K and I use Wasabi Power brand battery. The camera shut itself around %20 of battery. Is that normal? I assumed it happens because of the battery. I plugged in to AC, problem solved. Also, when I changed to a fully charged battery (again wasabi power) problem solved. Have you ever experienced this kind of situation? Thank you.
If a conect a the black magic has a 12v conection and y conected to a v-mount Battery with 14.8, directly with a D-tap clable to the black magic, could break the camera?
What I'm mostly concerned about with using the Canon batteries is having to dismount it from my gimble to access the battery door every 30 mins. Should I be worried about this or are there good gimbles that don't get in the way of the door?
