- Muting function fault causing loss of audio output across All functions. System not defaulting to FM P1 selection, known fault from B&O. I solved the issue with my own workaround without adding new components. (Although 1 x IC5 was replaced) fault still prevailed. See video for workaround. System fully functioning on all modes.

Thanks Sandra, it is, the smell of the old warm electronics takes me way back. These machines are worth saving, such is the quality of build irrespective of the design flaws!

Hi chris I'm in the middle of bying one blind of ebay charity shop no needle is expensive but I'm OK with that are they worth bying I've always wanted one since 1990s £2400 then
you could try aliexpress for a needle, the system will depend on what else lies beneath with a system. I'm always concerned if I see one for sale that has little issues reported. Let me know how you get on and if you need help.
Great video! I just picked one of these up. The issue I’m having is that when I power it up, it goes to P1. If I press “phono” it will start the record and then stop. If I leave the button pressed, it goes through the motion of playing the record, but I get no sound. Other times I power it up and the display lights do not come in, but the red lights do. The display usually comes on a few moments later. I opened it to check the deck and while it was “opened” I turned it on and the phono, tape, and fm lights were red. The record then played fine, but low audio output. The low output also affects the radio. I hooked up an external speaker to the output and it sounds fine. I also fixed the belts on the cassette deck, so that’s working now. Any ideas??
It could be that you have the mute effect with the system and it was never upgraded. Putting an external speaker on does muddy the waters a bit as the it would be using the same amp or preamps inside the unit. But it could be that the muting does not affect an external connection. I'd have to look at the schematics again. But I would start by overriding the mute function as I did in the video, if you are confident enough. @@ChrisFEJackson Thank you for the reply! I believe you may be right and it might be the mute effect. Although I was able to fix the tape deck, I am not sure I can do what you did. That really took patience and skill. I am considering handing it over to a place in LA that is an authorized B&O repair shop. @@dorianblach587 You are most welcome. If you are to hand it over to them for fixing it will be quite costly I'd expect. You could try to tell them, if it is the muting effect or not to perhaps short pin 7 & pin 8 on the 7815 I.C. located on the control function board i.e. under the switches. They will have to desolder a grounding plate to get to the solder pins of the IC as briefly described in the video. I wish you all the best with it. Oh btw I am currently in Beaverton (Tigard) in Oregon contracting for a company, here til Dec 14th if you want to try an alternative route :)

@@dorianblach587 Sorry fella, I have to fly home during the week so the timescale to receive & repair, return is now not possible. Sorry about that, I'd still say try & get a competent engineer to short pins 7 & 8 on IC 7815 on the main controller pcb. Good luck with it
Hi Chris. I’ve just picked up one of these beauties after searching for some time. However, upon testing I cannot get any life from the turntable, the tape deck will try to spin for a second and then goes lifeless, and the backlight for the panel does not work. The indicator lights are functional however, and correspond with whichever button is pressed.
As a complete novice when it comes to repairing these bits of kit, would it perhaps be possible to get some help please mate? I’m absolutely gutted it’s not working but don’t know where to start!

Hi Max, the very first thing to do is check the fuses. The fuses are located on the underneath rhs of the unit. A small cover can be removed andif you know how to use a meter, you can see if the fuses are good. The fact that you have no panel illumination and no turntable (could be two faults) could be down to a fuse. The panel lighting is taken from the 12V regulation circuits which is seperate from the supply to the logic control board, why you have the LEDs working when selecting function. As for the tape deck, it could be that the belts are gone on it. But first, check each fuse in turn, you may have lost a 12V circuit fuse.

Ive got a 2200 that ive inherited from my great aunt and it means a lot to me.
When you power up there are three lights that light up, phono - am - tape, and they dont turn off. Cant switch to other selections, no audio, no tuner light.
Sometimes turning on only shows phono-am
Itd mean the world to get this back up and running.

I could look at this for you but you would need to post it to me. I think I know what the issue is, there is an issue with the muting circuit on power up.

Yes I am I'm afraid! Unless you can find an electronics engineer I could draft something to show what they need to do. A competent engineer should be able to undertake, if they follow the instructions. But again, that would be me diagnosing it in the blind. Perhaps you could do a video of the symptoms for me to look at to make a more concerted opinion. I love getting these old units working, they are great quality, not like the usual run of the mill stuff you get today, which is throw away buy new!

@@Tyani-sz6cg My pleasure Tyan, happy to help especially as it means a lot to you. A lot of the weight stems from the transformer inside the unit, take that out would ease the cost of shipping. But let's go with our first option. Would you know of anyone local to you that would be able to undertake? I wouldn't ask for anything in all honesty, being able to help and enjoying getting these old units working is a great feeling and my payment :) Cheesey I know but it's true!
