    I appreciate seeing an unprejudiced Protestant reviewing a Catholic bible. Doctrinal differences are important and should be discussed of course; however, uniting on things that are shared in common by all Christians is also very important. No one benefits from spreading ignorance and hatred. Especially in a time of secularism, Christians should be much more united than they are. God bless you.

    Great review, Fr. now Bishop Barron was my teacher/ professor at Mundelein Seminary 1992 -97. He always taught about the three transcendental ways th God: goodness, truth, and beauty. You see this in this bible, goodness of our Lord and our other people in the gospels but also the lives of the saints, truth, of Gods word, but also the brilliant commentary, and beauty, the art work as you pointed out with the Rembrandt. This bible is so unique as it encompasses all three. I just got mine today as a gift after mass. Do you know the cost differences? God bless you and yours.

      Thank you! I believe the cost is currently $30 for the paperback edition, $40 for the hardcover, and $60 for the leather... but the hardcover and leather editions are out of stock and being reprinted right now.

    What an excellent review of this Bible! I appreciate your wife’s perspective as a Graphic Designer. I also really appreciate your specific example of the Bible’s treatment of the story of the Prodigal Son. This allowed me to see more clearly how unique this bible is. Beautiful! ❤️

    A nice man from Chicago gifted me this Bible after 1st Lent Sunday's Mass, in Argentina. We Latin Americans are not at all accustomed to Bibles this nice. Good review, I just subscribed.

    I purchased the first two volumes of the Word on Fire Bible, which is the Gospels and the New Testament. They are gorgeous and a pleasure to read. So insightful. Bishop Barron designed these to be a cathedral in print. There are going to be seven volumes in all. I know that the Pentateuch came out, and not the Promised Land volume has been released.

    Just ordered Vol 1 & 2! Also love the cover art and can't wait to read how they designed it....I also think that would make an incredible tattoo...

    I got both volumes after watching your reviews and I totally love them ! Actually one of my projects for 2023 is to do a in depth study of the 4 gospels using volume 1 as my main resource.
    I believe the Pentateuch is supposed to be released this year somewhere. I can hardly wait !

    Will there be an Old Testament to pair this with?

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      YES! They're releasing the rest of the New Testament in 2021, and then they will be working on the Old Testament .

    • @fatesrequiem
      @fatesrequiem 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trevor Hare Lestherbound versions of the Gospels are set to be back in stock in September, with the rest of the New Testament to be scheduled for June 2021, and they’ve said the Old Testament will be released over the course of I believe 4-5 volumes with one release per year. I see it as plenty of time to meditate on each volume’s contents for the release of the next.

      Nrsv is really good translation. The transformation is either gonna be a word for word or thought for thought. Either way we have apps and software if you want the best translation the original transcripts of the Greek and Hebrew. Just because it has the word catholic in front of it doesn’t change the translation. 🤦‍♂️ 😊

    It is a pretty Bible but let us at least mention that it represents a Catholic tradition that is not the same as biblical Christianity. It is lovely in appearance though.

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Interesting comment. I know a lot of Catholics that I would describe as Biblical Christians.

    • @SaneNoMore
      @SaneNoMore ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timwildsmith The institution still teaches salvation through faith alone is anathema. The prayers to Mary and the saints, Purgatory, the primacy and infallibility of the Pope, force celibacy for the priesthood, salvific sacraments, absolution made by Priests, and several other doctrines that are found nowhere in the Bible and in fact contradict it are (including tradition being put on equal footing as Scripture) taught by the Roman church. There were many reasons for the reformation even beyond these.
      While I am sure there exist good Christians in the Catholic Church, they need to get out. The institution itself is rampantly corrupt and teaches numerous unbiblical doctrines.

    • @SaneNoMore
      @SaneNoMore ปีที่แล้ว

      They can make a pretty Bible though if you forget they add non-canonical books to it.

      @@SaneNoMore You know you can skip the deuterocanonical books right? either way most of them are novels or wisdom books, nothing too out of scripture

      @@patrickwinn2389 just correcting some thing. Luther didn't removed this books, other protestants did later, he put them in a different sect called apocrypha.
