- Westwood opened up in 1970/80 when it was a fully functional theater. Gradually, this area was booming with business until Queensway and Sherway Theater moved into Toronto to serve a movie theater, this only plunged Westwood into neglect. When it closed it's doors in 1998, some people were and still do pay power for the location, however only the front of the theater is lit up while the rest is defunct. Today, brochures still lie in the denture clinic, and doors are still locked to keep vandals out of the semi-abandoned theater. Thermometers (or erasable pens or pencils,WHO KNOWS!) still lie in front of the deserted parking lot. The theater closed December 31st to serve as a TTC parking lot. This run down theater has plans for courtrooms this summer.
I remember seeing Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at the Westwood Theater with a couple of my friends in 1980. My mom drove us there and dropped us off from our home in Brampton. Brings back a lot of memories!
The 1st movie i ever saw was when my parents took me to see DUNE. Didnt understand a thing of that movie back then.
The last 2 movies i recall seeing there were Terminator 2 on opening day, and seeing one of the very lasr showings of Titanic just before closing day.I watched it in cheap Tuesday, so instead of the usual $4.25 ticket it was $2.75.
Great memories. I think the structure is still there and will remain until a condo developer buys up the lot. Can't see anything commercial being built there.
Was by there a few months ago and it's still standing. You can't get into the parking lot anymore, but the building is still there.
thank you for preserving history, you should go back and record more if you can
thanks again for the cool video
I would love to go there just because Resident Evil Apocalypse where filmed there... But since it's no longer there, it makes me really sad... The good thing is that they are more good Resident Evil locations in Toronto a.k.a. (Raccoon City).
They are demoishing it now. I passed by it last sunday and it was all ripped up.
Its near Kipling and Dundas right?
used as a filming location in resident evil apocalypse involving S.T.A.R.S. and the nemesis
The only time I ever went there I saw Meatballs.
Still up today (June 2013) although they are getting ready to demolish I think.
this is the place where nemesis kill all of the stars members in the resident evil apocalypse!
