@@rustynails.8550 Fair enough. Congratulations on having a partner who will split wood. My wife will work out in the gym for hours per day, but never get her nails dirty. She has other great qualities, just not likely to ever be spotted in the woods.

You do have a nice set-up with the splitter. But I love my processor, no picking up rounds and cutting with chainsaw just take a 14 foot section of tree with the loader and stand there work the levers and wala firewood. Can only handle up to 20 inches that's where your machine comes in. I do have a vertical splitter for anything larger. 👍 enjoy your vidjas

What a great team! The two of you are a force to be reckoned with. Your equipment and the methods you have developed are impressive to watch. Thanks for the video. By the way, I sure enjoyed the walk Melissa took running the dogs (earlier video). Yet again the beauty manifest on your property is just stunning. I thought “fern corners” was such place of solitude, and Melissa has put her personalized stamp on it with her table and bench! And Mike, your maiden voyage of the trailer delivery was sweet to watch.
May God bless and keep you safe, and have a Day!

Your system is a sound one Mike & Melissa. It works real well... Generally speaking, I too cut my rounds where the tree falls or drag them out to an easier working spot. I try to avoid dragging as much as possible to keep the wood clean, with some exceptions...
I hope to meet Chris in the spring at the Essex Jct. Expo here in Vermont in 2020.
The BTR carryall seemed to handle dragging the cherry easily enough. I'm still considering getting one but I may build my own 1st for about a 1/4 the cost of Tim's unit. My thinking is the (5) gal. pails of salted sand I use for spreading would be better suited in a wooden carryall versus a metal one, so in the end, I just may end up with (2) carryalls!
    Bill on the Hill... :~)

I absolutely love mine . I dont sell fire wood right now but I heat my home with a outdoor wood boiler and yes I could of gotten away with buying just a normal splitter but between work running my own lawn care business and now taking care of the family farm I dont have a ton of time . Plus I dont mind spending money on quality and I tell ya this thing is built to last and work . I've been splitting almost 3ft dim oak lately and dosen't even hesitate . Had some 2 ft elm didnt like the 4 way but no problem single I Opted for the 35 ton just to be sure I wouldn't ever have a problem getting though anything

I really enjoy all of your videos from hatchet throwing to kid's workouts, to Jeep reviews, but a return to your roots with a chainsaw, a tractor and a woodsplitter is very enjoyable too. Oh yeah, the blues music is always great. By the way, I love to read all the comments giving you advice how you should be doing things. I burn about two cords a year in a cabin in Westen NC and I started with a Poulan I got on sale at Lowes for $79, an electric splitter I got at Home Depot for $200 and I split out of the back of my pick-up using the electric spiltter set up on an old dining room table and I drop the split wood into a plastic 4-wheel trailer I bought at Tractor Supply. In the end, it is my perfect soluton. I did by a used Stihl on CL this year,, so I'm upgrading. My point is the right way of doing something is what meets your needs at your budget. It's not that I can't afford better equipment, it's just that what I have does the job. Keep up the great work and you need to get Melissa one of those "Sun's out, Guns out T-shirts so she can show off those guns.

Firstly because he asks for comments. Secondly because it's a man thing when presented with a process or problem we'll assess it and give an opinion. It's in-built. Thirdly When we ask for comments and questions, that's exactly what we expect. Fourthly the world's been built this way. Is the system broken?

for the fans of dragging poles to the log splitter and cutting them there, unless there is a need to drag, like getting them off a hillside in todays video, dragging is a tough one. Any time I have drug poles, I end up with mud on the wood and cutting through mud quickly dulls the chain on the chainsaw. It actually creates more work instead of less. There's no right or wrong. everyone has their way that makes it enjoyable for them. That's just my experience.

Hi ! The set-up you have looks like it’s the catz azz for what you are doing ... I have saws and a supersplt (no tractor or grapple etc) and buck my poles/trees to length ... then bring machine on location and split away ... if I’m doing 6-16” pcs I can zip along .... only drawback of machine is the wood needs to be lifted about 30” to the table ... heavier pcs / larger diameter rounds necessitates using a gantry crane with an electric winch and lifting tongs or a roller conveyor whereby you slide the chunk up the wheels to the work table ... for a guy like me that does 20-50 face/year (heat with wood , sell some , fell trees and split on location for customer ) Its a decent side gig plus I just LUV running Me ported STIHL saws ... seems like the 12-16 inch straight rounds are the sweet spot for my operation ... it’s definitely a great workout but don’t think I’d like to do it as my bread and butter - Some split by hand with axe or maul and that’s ok - I prefer the splitter 😆

Hey Mike and Melissa, great day started with the “Fox Patrol” on watch !! I really don’t think your method of gathering and processing firewood needs any improvements. The equipment you have and use so much is a fantastic set up and well manufactured for years of operation. Everything is well represented by your honesty. Really enjoyed seeing Melissa spot the figure of a human inside the cut off log and sharing that with us. You both are doing a fantastic job around there. Mike, all of that equipment is awesome but doesn't compare to the help that you're getting from Melissa. I am doing basically the same thing as you, getting home from work , cutting firewood off of a stock pile and selling around 30-40 cords a year using chainsaws and American CLS splitter, no elevator, no help, it's my gig. Occasionally I do have a helper. Another person makes a huge difference, especially when you're both on the same page as the 2 of you are. I'm envious of your set up, can't see myself with a processor either, although at times i think that it would work out. Keep up the good work, I look for your very helpful and informative video's every evening. Thank's for letting us into the going's on at the Morgan Family Ranch.

Next time (which often happens to you ....) of a very long trunk cut, I suggest:
1 the tractor holds the trunk up
    2 the operator cuts into pieces;
3 you, on the wagon, step back slowly, a little after each piece cut, the piece make it fall directly on the platform!
First on one side then on the other.
You will avoid too many bends !!

Mike, Soon you'll need a larger crew. You'll have to look long and hard to find someone to come close to your current helper. It is nice seeing couple work as a team. My dad said the Clydesdales of the Budweiser team were soft, very out of shape. He turned eighty acres of weeds into a well working farm behind a horse. So you both are in better shape, and pull together better than that famous team. Morgans either the horses or humans, earned reputation for being handsome and hard working. My folks folks were Plum crazy, feuding for decades, never pulling together. Your family is great example how a family can be, and should be. Not perfect, but a working example. It is an example others can draw strength from. It can help restore faith in unknown battered souls. Thank you all and God bless you.

You got a super cool set up and for what you do, it'll last a long time and be a great asset for you to make things a lot easier and even maybe a bit quicker. Melissa, You got it. I mean you got what it takes to make a better day for everyone and I know Mike is very thankful for that. Your smile is what I'm talking about, A smile does wonders. I know because if when I meet a total stranger and if I don't leave with a smile on that person's face then I feel that I done something wrong.
There are a lot of good God loving people out there and I can tell you and Mike are that kind of people. You can't beat a channel that's as good as this. I smile every time I see any video. Loving couple and family. I feel blessed to met you all through this channel.
Have fun and be safe at the Paul bonyon ( Can't spell that ) this weekend. I feel you will get to meet a of of folks that are like us, have the same common ground...loving the outdoors and life.
    God Bless
    Michael from NW North Carolina

Looks like you have quite a bit of cherry on your land. Ours here in Upstate NY are dying. I agree with you... leave the debris in the woods... less around where you are working. Plus less mess to clean up later.

Good morning, Mick from the big island here, Missy you get an A+ on backing up today and oh, way too hustle on the fire wood today! Not a betting man but, Missy if you ever enter an arm wrestling contest I'm betting on you.

How many times did that log get hung up on corners? Did you eyeball the length on those rounds or was the log marked?
Melissa let you go first so there would be some rounds to split after you got there. If she'd gone first it would be all done.
Fast as that splitter is, Melissa is even faster!
Put all those logs at Cliff's in the dump trailer and cut at home so you don't mess up his place with all the chips ;D
Conveyor into the new dump trailer??

So Mike am I mistaken? I don't see the locking pin which keeps the splitter from coming up off of the lifting ram. I think (YOU Should he he) keep doin things EXACTLY as you are doing them; every one has their own opinion of how other folks should do things...you're doin fine. Keep up the good work and videos. Are you working poor Melissa too hard so that she can't cause problems? ;) Nice video guys keep 'em commin, thumbs up!

It's ready to go now! We will have your machine on the trailer outside the gate so it can be picked up at anytime the day that you come to the show. Just stop in at booth 460, and I will have one of my helpers get you loaded up!

It’s called double heat wood. Hot when your cutting and splitting plus stacking. Hot when you burn it in your own home.

Cannot tell for sure but if you have a slot on the front of the Polaris using a ball hitch is very useful at times instead of backing. You have more control of your turning the trailer or other equipment while pushing it back. Just as info.

Mike, you are spoiled. You have the tractor to lift the wood to make it easier to cut and not have to worry about hitting the ground. Then you have a beautiful wife who isn't afraid to work and really works very hard. Keep doing things the way you are, that's what works for you. I am sure you have tried other ways already in the past and settled with the way you are doing things now because it worked for you. I made a couple of short videos recently, with the latest being a brief tour of my property and finally posted a couple of videos on TH-cam. Don't see any wild animals in these videos though. Someday soon after I heal a little more, I might record a quick little video of where I have been cutting some firewood. I have a lot of wood up there that needs cut, many downed trees. I try not to cut any standing trees if I don't need to. I hope your whole family has a great day.

My neighbor here in Ontario has a processor and does over 1000 Bush cords a year. He also has a welder on that thing every weekend repairing weld cracks. Lots of upkeep.

I also noticed that the gun rack is not on the Ranger, so is that because of backing into the garage door?

Personally think bobcat is easier. Pickup, cut and split with out touching the log. If one does it right. Split into trailer and haul home to dump.

Melissa made an great point about preparation, people often forget about the time spent prior to the final product. There is a hardware store down the end of my street, they have most everything but are expensive but to divert to a big chain type store and save a couple of dollars, I've just wasted an hour of my time. You two are a great team, thanks.

Another great video from the Morgans! You are 110 % correct firewood is a lot of work, everyone has there own way on doing things to make it easier some ways are better then others. But I agree cutting it up in the woods is the best because of the mess👍 . I'm hoping I can get the chance to get out to the show coming up. Keep up the awesome videos!

You should take the splitter and conveyor to the neighbors. Then haul home and dump less handling that way.

Hey Guys Just a suggestion Why doesnt Melissa take one of the tractors hook it to the trailer and bring more at a time Trail goes in a circle so she wouldn't have to back up ALL GOOD lmao Double at least the production could save some fuel too All the best
