After watching 2 different videos of this I finally get it. It was all in Alice's head. Every since the car accident she has been in a coma. She is having a dream encounter. She is reunited with her brother Hans formely known as Deemo. Unknown to her until it's almost time for her to wake up does she realize it's her brother. The first awakening in the hospital is still a dream. So it's basically a dream within a dream. She goes back in time through the mask she finds and tries to stop the sorrow from happening even if it is impossible, because she is still alive and Hans is not. Hans died in a car accident which is the flash back she gets as she ascends. Despite her effort to be with her brother, it works out because she leaves behind a pc herself (memory of her?) so he won't be lonely. So when Hans is disappearing, a memory of Alice is disappearing with him.

To those who are a bit confused and haven't played the game, Deemo is Hans, Alice's brother. Alice is at first just referred to as "Little girl", later to be revealed as Alice. The masked lady's name is Celia, which is the part of Alice that did not want to leave Deemo, Celia uses the same letters to spell Alice.
Hina if you write it with katakana it actually is written backwards.「アリセ」(alice/"a|ri|se") becomes「セリア」(celia/"se|ri|a"). although that would not be how the name alice is spelled usually in japanese... that would be "arisu"「アリス」 but i just realise that this maybe was intentional from the creators.. if you read "a|ri|se" with english pronounciation, instead of japanese, the name gets a new and deeper meaning :D but it's the same as in many anime where puns originating from spelling and/or words can't be translated... (for example in one song of the anime k-on. there is one line where it says "ich[i] ni san shi gohan" where they count up from one to five ("go") and rice ("gohan") at the same time... it's impossible to translate this literally :/ )

this is pretty much I've ever wanted in a game. excellent music, memorable characters, a heart wrenching story/backstory. all in all the perfect game for me.
All without any lines during the cutscenes too,this just proves that sometimes,we don't need to hear the characters talk to be able to see the beauty and tragedy of some stories if it was written well,Deemo being the perfect example
MS&DC Universe if you are into that kind of games which have only one predetermined story line which is yet beautiful to the point you don't mind being "led" through then i recomend "to the moon". There is even a video serie with pewdiepie playing it start to end no cuts other than videos themselves if you are interested. Just take it like 4 hours long movie with minigames.
From a game this artist truely is amazing from what design that they have created is magnificent to the point of where they took the idea of a game and made it into 17 minute art-work even without the voices of characters it had made it that much more special. This artist needs to make an anime.
This made me cry, I thought at first that Deemo/Hans was her father until I realized that its her brother, which is really saddening since siblings are the most closest friend that they have 😢😢😢 FEELS
I think the saddest part is that it seems that Alice has no other family members, just except her brother alone. She will be alone without any of her family anymore after she woke up, which was probably why her subconscious Celia didn’t want her to wake up.
I think it would have been nice if they played either the song "Dream" or the song "rainy memory" while he Deemo set her onto the platform and as those memories passed by. still love it though!
So was this in a later version of the game, or an Easter Egg for the fans who do their research, because I could have really used this 2 years ago after that emotional rollercoaster that was update 2.0
This game made me want to learn piano years ago. Now after practicing for so long I am so thankful for deemo to give me the inspiration to play. Piano is now part of who I am and has helped me through so many things.
If the otherside of Alice managed to stop the real Alice from going back to that window, she would've never woke up and "staying" with her brother forever. So the real Alice (her natual instinct) was unintentionally fighting for her life (wanting to go back to where she fell), without knowing that Deemo is her brother until the very last flashback, which made her realise what going through that window will mean to her (losing her brother), she had no choice but to remember the devastating truth.
10:17 So, I haven’t played the game and stumbled across this just now, but my theory is: The first part of the short film is some kind of life between death and the after life. The brother of the girl saved her from that truck, sacrificing himself. He died and landed there, as that black guy-ghost. Maybe he played the piano when he was alive, so that’s why it’s there. His sister luckily survived but was in a kind of coma. During that coma her soul actually was in another world, searching for her brother because the only thing that she remembers was that she is a girl and has a lovely big brother; being led by the feeling to find him. When he plays the wonderful music on the piano, her soul followed it and then they were reunited. Only problem; they both don’t know who the other is, the don’t know where they are, they remember nothing. So then together, they discover the world where they are. He only knows the piano and the librbay with thousands of books. Instead of written words, they have music notes - probably again symbolizing that he was into music in his life (and/or music is what bonded them as siblings) OR instead of saying what happened to them (because that’d be too easy), the stories are told through music. Every song tells another story and while he plays, the girl slowly starts to remember, but I think that intentionally she doesn’t want to know the truth so she pushes it away. Instead she wants to discover more of the world with her friend (brother). The masked girl that appears then is symbolizing she doesn’t want to let go yet, but kinda has to. The masked girl follows them (maybe it’s also symbolizing her body that is slowly dying without a soul (because yknow her body is in a coma)) and because she (her soul) doesn’t want to go, the masked girl grabs her, but the guy stops that. As in saying that nothing should end in a fight. Maybe he also remembers in that moment and by petting her, he shows forgiveness, as in: “I’m not regretting saving you, don’t feel guilty.” He then takes her to the piano place, giving her a ride back to life. The song of the piano is probably like a goodbye song but also the melody would guide her back to her body. When he plays the song, everything corrupts because he finally accepted his death and now knowing his sister is okay, he’s ready to go to the afterlife, so this plays isn’t needed anymore. This acceptance also causes revealing his real identity and then his sister remembers, everything. But she’s happy he could see him one last time and say goodbye, knowing that a part of her will always stay with him (the masked girl) and he will always stay in her heart.
No matter how many you watch this.. you'll be crying.. I don't have any older brother/sister but I know the feeling when your siblings is not in this world again.. why even I'm crying writing this comment...*sobs*
Honestly Deemo is such an amazing game and a beautiful storyline with absolutely incredible music. I would love to see Studio Ghibli make a movie out of this!

It's just show you that if someone leaves you someday in any way, don't feel sad instead makes sure that never fail to forget the good memories you made with them. And learn to live with yourself because they loved you like you are.

YES!!! I DIDN"T CRY!!! I FOUGHT THE TEARS AND WON!!! But in all seriousness, a long while ago, like two years, I watched this 4 times separately and cried through all of them. I've been trying to forget the sadness I felt for the two siblings for YEARS.
How I see Celia is the desire to stay with her brother and not leave again. In the artwork it really shows how much Alice fights with Celia to come to terms but then have a resolve as Deemo shows it’s time for Alice to keep moving forward. Celia is always here because there will always still be moments in our life hat we don’t want to let go and moving on feels terrible. No matter how much she wants to leave, her brother wants her to remember him smiling instead of grieving which breaks her out of her coma from a car accident. Despair can consume you to the point of repeating cycles over cycles not being unable to stop but once you find that acceptance and inner peace, you’re able to move on and keep your loved ones in your heart

大切な人がいなくなるって言うストーリーが本当に弱くて、でもゲームのイラストを見た感じだと
アリスちゃんはハンスがいなくなってもピアノを続けられててもっと泣いた。DEEMOのアニメーションしか見てない人にはぜひゲーム版もプレイしていただきたい。仮面の女の子が別の世界のアリス説もあって非常に面白い。ゲームプレイしててもわからない事がいっぱいあるが、それがまたいい。PS4版おめでとう！！これからもDEEMOを愛してます！！

How I see Celia is the desire to stay with her brother and not leave again. In the artwork it really shows how much Alice fights with Celia to come to terms but then have a resolve as Deemo shows it’s time for Alice to keep moving forward. Celia is always here because there will always still be moments in our life hat we don’t want to let go and moving on feels terrible.
No matter how much she wants to leave, her brother wants her to remember him smiling instead of grieving which breaks her out of her coma from a car accident.
Despair can consume you to the point of repeating cycles over cycles not being unable to stop but once you find that acceptance and inner peace, you’re able to move on and keep your loved ones in your heart
