    Thank you Jay for showing that people don’t need to blow up their budgets to do great traveling videos. That GoPro dome handle looks like a must have when doing shots from clear blue waters. Our kids are going to request that for our next cruise.

      We definitely keep it simple, ha ha... we don't have the slickest looking vlogs, but we've always just been about sharing some fun, some personality, and... that's about it!! :P

    Thank you for this video. It really did answer a lot of questions.
    I still have a few more. Of course I do.
    A couple of years ago, (pre-pandemic), I got to the airport with my suitcase and my camera case. Keep in mind that my camera case is a pelican brand case with foam padding that is intended to be checked in with the other luggage.
    It has 2 big padlocks on the front and it is obvious that its not a normal suitcase.
    The woman was asking "Do you have anything dangerous or flammable inside your checked or carry on luggage, such as aerosols or lithium batteries? "
    I had to lie and say No.
    Yes, my deodorant in my toiletries kit is an aerosol.
    My cell phone on my hip has a lithium-ion battery.
    I have 12 lithium-ion batteries in my camera case which is being checked.
    QUESTION: How is anyone expected to fly on an airplane since every portable device like laptop, cell phone, tablet, and camera uses a lithium-ion battery?
    Yes I realize that there are still a few small cameras that use AA batteries, but everything that is rechargeable is using a lithium-ion battery.
    QUESTION: You mentioned the Hero 5 and Hero 7 black models. I see on your Amazon affiliate page that there is a Hero 7 black model that comes with a clear plastic housing for the water. Is the Hero 7 black only waterproof when using the clear plastic housing ?
    I thought the camera itself was waterproof. Do I need to take the clear plastic housing on the trip for use when snorkeling?
    QUESTION: Is it your understanding that all of the guest cabins now have 3 wire 110V plugs? I thought that they were all 2 wire 110V. Since your on a ship you dont have an earth ground. I know your not allowed to use power strips that contain surge suppression circuits. I usually take 2 wire extension cords that have been cut down to about 1 foot in length so that I can utilize the block of 3 outlets at the end. I plug my travel chargers into that.

    Jay, your stuff compared to mine, I only have a simple point and shoot camera, probably time to upgrade?

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eh, our Canon is basically a fancified point-and-shoot. No fancy lenses or anything. If it doesn't fit in my pocket, I don't see myself hauling it around a cruise ship while I'm on vacation, ha ha... :P

    I never knew I needed a dome until now. :D Thanks for the rundown! We bought a GoPro Hero7 for our cruise that was supposed to happen in April. My husband is the techie in our family, and he said the 8 didn't really impress him more than the 7, so we saved money AND got a great camera. Now if we can just go on a cruise to use it!!!!

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, we'd heard that... folks say they weren't super impressed with the step up from the 7 to the 8. Plus, the 7 takes the same batteries as our 5, so that's probably as far as we would upgrade for now. If we went to the 8, we would have to get all new batteries!!

    Hey Jay! Can you let us know what you take with you for video editting on-the-go (hardware and software).

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Heyo! I tend to go for any sort of decent gaming laptop because they usually have beefed up graphics cards and memory. Nothing super specific though. Editing software, I never recommend what I actually use, but I'd say check out the free full-featured version of Davinci Resolve if you need something semi-fancy. Otherwise, free Windows Movie Maker or iMovie will probably do. Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro are also valid non-free contenders. :D ~Jay

    Awesome gear! Thanks for sharing! I have a question about the portable charging bank...do you charge it when not using regularly? I could see myself using it while cruising or at Disney because our battery always drains on long days out, but what about the time between uses? I had one small one before and I didn’t charge it for like 6 months and then it no longer held a charge. Just curious if you let it sit for a couple of months with no use and it still charges up and works.

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally try to keep ours charged because they've come in handy during hurricane season when we've lost power for a few days or weeks in the past. So we use them beyond just in our cruise life, hah! I can't say that I've ever had one go bad our of three that we've owned so far. Interesting...

    At 6:40, you mentioned other bags that have velcro closure.
    How do these battery bags differ?
    Where did you get them? Are they on your Amazon site? I did not see them?

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thankee! I don't know that I would recommend the software that I use, because it's a bit overpriced and there are better options that do the same thing for cheaper, and maybe even free, ha ha... I usually say go with Premiere Pro for PC or Final Cut Pro for Mac, but there's a free option called DaVinci Resolve that was recommend to us as well, but I never used it. For royalty-free music, there's a nice sized free library built right into TH-cam Studio. Love it!! :D
