    One big thing that Ace Ventura Jr and Son of the Mask both got hugely wrong is that in those movies, Jim Carrey's character can be insane or wacky but everyone else...isn't. Like in Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Ace is idiosyncratic and strange but the other characters are just normal people that are confused by him and mock his weirdness assuming he is just insane, that's where the humor comes from, that he is nuts and no one else is, but the part that makes it really work is that while he is nuts, he is also smart and usually right in his investigation so he shows up the police even while being a ridiculous man. It's pretty easy to see that just by watching the movie, but when the writers for this sequel watched the movie it's clear that all they saw is, well Jim is being over the top... so we will just have everyone act crazy and make the plot as ridiculous as we can and it'll be fine right? NO, you have to balance it with normal people and a decent plot otherwise it's just intolerable nonsense.

      You hit the nail right in the head! Even in the second Ace Ventura movie where things are a little more "outlandish" most of the people around Ace are just normal people going "wtf" and that's the real magic of those movies (also giving him a "serious" partner in the second worked pretty well in my opinion, the chemistry between the characters is very good!)

    • @dynostretch9215
      @dynostretch9215 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      To add to this, the original film did a great job portraying this with the villain, Ray Finkle, who was also an insane lunatic, only in the much more serious and terrifying way.
      It was a brilliant contrast to Ace's crazy but good-natured character.

    Hey Elvis. On the topic of skunks
    They're completely legal in most of the US
    You can buy from breeders
    They come deglanded so they cant spray.
    Truthfully They're like cats with arguably more attitude. They require a ridiculously healthy diet and are actually quite fond of people if they know they have no reason to be afraid. They can actually make good pets
    They can also come in black, brown, and lavender. Western US skunks can be spotted while eastern are striped.

    Fun fact: “Antidisestablishmentarianism”, the word in the spelling bee, is the opposition to breaking away from a church. I don’t know why they needed such a long word for it but hey, to each their own.
    EDIT: Might I also add that the judge justifies AVJr being a sudden defendant with “character is pertinent”. A few things;
    One, character is pertinent is apart of character evidence, which is a demonstration of said persons actions which essentially means the judge justified him being there by calling him an example of capability.
    Two, the correct term for a lawyer being added to a case is Pro hac vice meaning “for the occasion”.

      alright so one one time I accidentally spelled "though" incorrectly on an essay in high school. the teacher pulled me up in front of the class and said "you can't spell though?" and I said "oh, I didn't notice! obviously a mishap, just correct it for me and we're good." and she said "I mean if you can't spell 'though' obviously you shouldn't be in this class!" so in retaliation I said "say any word, and I'll spell it right here in front of the class right now." and she said antidisestablismentarianism"so I spelled it. and she went completely silent. sounds like an r/thathappened moment but it felt so good to prove a teacher wrong for a change.

    This was one of those kids movies parents make their kids sit through to keep them busy. I would know, I'm one of those kids where my dad found anything animated or kid-oriented, put it on, and left me and my siblings alone to watch. For some reason, I never got it through my head that he was actually Ventura's kid. I thought Ventura was just like his never seen uncle with the mom being this sister and for some reason this kid really wanted to be like his uncle who was traveling the world as a pet detective. This was my thinking when I first watched this as a kid cause this kid COULDN'T have been Ventura's kid. Especially when he never married in this movies, always had flings, his family wasn't around, and didn't seem like the dude to have settled down? I had no reason for this thinking. I just knew what worked and what didn't so I hated this movie and what it tried to replicate. So much I used to assume this was just a spin off/kid copy I've seen kid oriented movies tried to do before knowing copy right laws were a thing and that it was the actual studio that attempted this cash grab

    • @devontehuntley6274
      @devontehuntley6274 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      How many people do you think it takes to write a movie? It usually has around three people because there's revisions made and it's not always done by the same person and then there's sometimes pairings. Not sure if you're saying three people is too many or not enough but some of the best movies out there are the result of three or less people writing.

    • @spiceyicey
      @spiceyicey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@devontehuntley6274 Three people working together is good, and I'm glad you understand that! But in this instance, The story has absolutely no consistency which gives the idea that these three people were given a basic plot (I.e. "copy the first movie but with children"), left in 3 individual rooms to write a story each, then just mashed the product together without assuring anything made sense. :D

    • @devontehuntley6274
      @devontehuntley6274 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@spiceyicey Yeah, if they're not reading each other's work then that can lead to complications. That's often hard to believe happening since I assume they have to read the whole thing to make sure everything is consistent. It's like taking turns writing a book, they'd have to see what's written beforehand and follow up on that. It baffles me when professional filmmakers can't produce a good worthy product. In this case, I just think they knew they were doing a wacky kid's movie to an already wacky movie so they didn't take it as seriously. But given this is a sequel to a movie and not involving Jim Carrey, they should have done a lot better.

      Hunter Ivey if you are not a lazy pet owner and don’t declaw them then they can be very rewarding animals to care for. Though they are not house pets. They should only be kept when they have free access to garden.
      The skunk pet trade is largely made from wild caught skunks (wild catching is completely vile). I work at a wildlife park which has rescued skunks and many come from lazy irresponsible owners who think they look cute but don’t have the resources or level of effort to give the skunks a high level of quality of life

    I say “unfortunately” because according to the people who own skunks as pets, they are intelligent, affectionate, and have very distinctive personality traits. If they are raised in a loving environment, it will have no reason to spray its “Stink” because skunks only spray when they feel threatened.
