    Some older football connoisseurs will recognise Trapattoni's 'Zona Mista' signature adaptation by Mikel in this game.
    Proactive defending and master-ing the dark arts!
    Interestingly Mikel mixes up some Rhinus and Cruijff's 'total football' traits with Pep's 'juego de posicion' in matches with higher ascendancy and the Italian style of 'zona mista' & 'catenaccio' by the likes of Trapattoni and Sacchi off the ball especially away from home against the top sides like Liverpool and City.

    How people can have a go at Arsenal is mad. Straight after an international break, to then have to go away to arguably the best team on the planet and not only stop them scoring, but again limiting their chances to less than 1 expected goal, is not an easy thing to do at all. Just as they limited our attacks as well.
    People can talk about the recent top of the table clash and how Liverpool could have beaten man city, but that was at Anfield, not the Etihad. So its not really a fair comparison.
    Granted, City didnt have a fully fit Stones and no Walker. But Arsenal didnt have a fully fit Martinelli and Partey, who could have changed the dynamic of the game in terms of our attack. Overall, it was pretty much an even contest and it currently keeps us above man city.

A lot of fans seem concerned that positional play will lead to all top games looking like this. A lot of tactical back and forth, and very little room for moments of brilliance. Today, it felt like the match was set to be a 0-0 all the way unless someone made a mistake. However, with this much quality on the pitch, you’d expect some more brilliance from De Bruyne, Odegard, Saka, Grealish, Silva, etc. - unfortunately it feels like they are stuck ‘making the right play’ and it is a never ending chess match. Honest question, does Haaland make city more one dimensional? He is obviously a world class player but in games where he can't bully centre backs, it seems to require some special from foden, de bryune or rodri to unlock defense. When in the past you had mahrez or sterling or gundogan, now its all about finding Haaland in the box.

    • @oussemamenthole2586
      @oussemamenthole2586 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I feel like Haaland feels less dangerous compared to last year is because of his success last year. He lost his first season surprise element, every team is now on to him defensively and he can't manage to play around it cause he lacks the ball skills. Don't get me wrong he is outstanding in the box but outside of it he lacks the control, passing, trickery which make him very predictable he relies a bit too much on brut force but when 3 defenders are on to u u can't brut force out of that. I think pep needs to find a new way to utilize Haaland specially in big games. I'd play alverez as striker or foden as false 9 in big games and switch to Haaland in last minutes of the match, that way defenders would be a bit exhausted to deal with Haaland. I think utilizing him this way would be more effective.

      There are many phases in Arsenal defensive system (I dont know how many, I'm not that smart). So let me call it first phase where City try to build from the back and Arsenal will go high line to push City make mistakes. This is where Arsenal doesn't want Rodri to have the ball. Arsenal will let anyone (and fortunately Stones is unavailable also) to have the ball but Rodri, because he's capable in finding those excellent vertical passes and make City go on break. And then there is low block phase, where City do build up slowly and pin Arsenal in their own half. In this phase, Arsenal will let Rodri to have the ball but they will suffocate middle area so in the end Rodri can only ping to wider area, where the danger not really high in Arsenal point of view.
