I’ve done Medano Pass 2 time. Once in each direction. We were in a 2010 JKUR which was pretty much stock. Once the sand was soft and loose and once it was wet and compacted. Fun trail and you are right... lots of good camping spots....
One thing to keep in mind is that the air compressor in the park is not always working so if you air down make sure you have a way to air back up. Also on the east side there is no air available. Medano Pass is a fun run, we've done it several times east to west. Also there are other trails in the San Luis Valley to explore that are fairly easy.
I've hiked along this trail and used to go to the sand dunes every May. Was usually part of hiking back to camp after sleeping on the dunes overnight. I'm looking forward to the next time I can make it back there and run this trail while I'm there.
I was recently visiting with family at the dunes. I had no idea there were off-roading opportunities in the area. I wondered about it. NOTHING was published in the museum other than hiking. Us old people with job related disabilities use our stock jeeps to enjoy easy to moderate exploration without over doing it so to speak. We own a 2005 TJ Rubicon with some mods. We are remaining with original 31 inch tire size. Easier to get in an out of. I hope to revisit SilverSprings Colorado with my Jeep on a trailer very soon. Thank you 😊
This is why I’m sad seeing off-road trails close. Not everyone can hike a ton of miles, and a 4x4 can get people there easier. Thank you for your comment!
@@coloradomallcrawlers Thank you sir, it was great of you taking we, the viewers to hights I never in my life would have. Those very narrow peaks you traversed spooked me merely watching thinking the purlieus predicament you very well could have found yourself. Thats a long damn way to to bottom!
Yeah, working on the Liberty to get it trail ready and I’ll use it when I travel there to help my parents. I left an old drone there and I can bring a GoPro and my phone to film the rest.
New to off roading. Are public use air stations, tire air pumps common around popular trails? I am planning to bring my own compressor either way. However, if air stations are something to keep an eye out for it would be good to know.
As I said, they will still be made, but I’m on call 24/7 and I’m working nearly every 10 hours. The only way I could make those right now is if I quit my job, but for me to do that, I’d need to do stuff like patreon, merch sales, affiliate marketing, and taking up these sponsorship requests I get. That doesn’t feel right so I do what I can. I appreciate you wanting them tho and I like making the long guides. Maybe one day I’ll be able to publish a full long trail guide weekly or bi-weekly.
What are you driving? I filmed this solo and that adds time, only took me 3 hours at most and I wasn’t speeding. Also, this is what trails off-road and Funtreks say.
There’s so many great trails. Down south I love the gulches (we have videos on them), but you can get in trouble on those trails. Maybe try Mount Baldy first (as long as it doesn’t have Rock Slides… don’t do what we did and go over rock slides like we did there). Balanced rock is fun and technically rated moderate. The vids are designed to show you trails before you go so you can decide for yourself. Good luck!
Unfortunately I usually work holidays as my schedule is nuts according to my friends. I just do trails around being on call. However in 2023, I’m going to try to work out of Grand Junction to make it easier to do Utah and Ouray trails.
That would be awesome, but I only can travel to Tennessee to help my parents using FMLA. My job isn’t allowing me to use my vacation days or personal leave days currently because we are so short staffed.
Hope all is well with them. My vacation is also limited due to a job change, travel time to co/ut from nc makes it a challenge. Videos like your make the planning a lot easier for the limited time I have out there and are greatly appreciated.

For sure! Good tips… thank you!
THANKS Dewie !!!!! I REALLY need to get down to that part of our state more !!!!! 🤘😄🤘
You would love it there!

I’ve come up with a good loop of trails that could be run with a group!
RUN??? Or Traverse?

Always enjoy your content, Dewey. Looking forward to meeting you on the trail one day! Thanks!
Thanks, that’d be great!
Looks like a fun laid-back trail
It is!
These areas look great for some off roading. Nice share man
Yeah, it was a surprisingly fun trail!
Love your content! Would love more in-depth on Medano. High on my list.
We’re definitely doing a full multi-vehicle trail guide with camping on it… I’ll see what else I can find for that video.
Awesome video, any trail guides for Tennessee trails in the future?
Yeah, working on the Liberty to get it trail ready and I’ll use it when I travel there to help my parents. I left an old drone there and I can bring a GoPro and my phone to film the rest.
@@coloradomallcrawlers awesome, I am close to Tennessee, so those will be helpful to me. I hope to vacation to Colorado soon, with my jeep. thanks
The park sign says 4wd only. 2wd and all wheel drive not allowed. It is policed by rangers, and fines may be handed out if caught.
Maybe so.
Wheres the mount blanca video?
Needs a lot of narration and I work all the time.

No they aren’t, but usually you can get to a gas station with a short pavement drive. Not for this trail tho.
Really miss the long trail guides.

Not 2 to 3 hours. It took me 4 1/2. To come from the sand dunes and go over the pass. 20 miles 9 posted water crossings I think.

im new to off roading located in colorado springs do you have any recomendation for the upcoming season

Hey this Easter/usual spring break time will you be able to do any trails either in Colorado or Utah

Start from Westcliffe and save yourself $50 bucks
I filmed this after filming mount blanca, but that would work for most.
In the area for smoky mtn Jeep invasion ?

How far do you need to drive this trail to see fall colors in October?
If coming from the East, not far. The western side is more sand dunes, while the eastern side is Colorado forest.
