    hey Sharon!! I just sat my UCAT and I really wanna thank you for this video. It really helped a lot with my mindset and made me focus on God’s strength not mine. Because of ur video I got the idea of writing affirmations and bible verses on my laminated scratchpad which I truly believe helped me get the score that I got. I have never gotten as high in my mocks as I gotten in the real thing and God truly is the reason why. Hey Sharon, huge congratulations on your fabulous score. On the comments, I read that you used both Medify and The Medic Portal (TMP) apart from the official UCAT but you mainly used TMP for your preparation. Is that correct? And if yes, how would you compare Medify vs TMP, and which one would you recommend or both? Also, for TMP did you just get the question bank or the online course as part of the package aswell?
    Finally, how did you go about preparing? Like, did you initially start doing untimed questions and how many you did per day and how many timed Qs and mocks did you do per day later on?
    Apologies for the long question, but your expertise would greatly help me. And fingers crossed for the good news from your Harvard application. We're all rooting for you!

    • @helloitssharon
      @helloitssharon  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I mainly used TMP to prepare. I was lucky enough that my school purchased a medic portal package for all students applying to med! It was £120 for the question bank, practise exams and videos explaining each section, so it didn’t include the online course. Medify was a lotttt harder than the real exam (especially QR) and to be completely honest TMP was harder than the real exam too. But, medify did have a lot of other features that made it better than TMP. For example, medify has built in timed practise, whereas with TMP I had to time myself which was so inconvenient. Medify also has a lotttt more mocks and you can do mini tests for each specific section, which is really useful in helping improve on weaker areas. Honeslty, TMP is not worth paying £120 when medify was so much more affordable (I think it was around £60 or less) and provides so many more resources, so overall I would recommend medify.
      To prepare I spent 2 hours every day (except on Sundays), starting 6 weeks before my exam date. I would say less is more when it comes to the UCAT; some days I did around only 60 questions but spent time making sure I understood why I had got it right/wrong, then retried the same questions to see if it got it right again. First 1-2 weeks were watching all the videos and understanding what I needed to know for each section, weeks 2-4 were doing untimed questions and then weeks 5-6 I only did timed questions. Because TMP only had 6 mocks I tried to save them for closer to the exam, and then during the week of my exam I did an official UCAT mock every day. If you get medify they have over 20 mocks so I would start doing mocks by weeks 3-4, maybe two a week to start then by weeks 5-6 maybe every other day.
      No worries at all, I’m more than happy to help and let me know if you have anything else you wanted to ask! Thanks so much and I wish you all the best 🫶🏾❤️

      I’ve put tips for VR, QR and DM in the comments already which you can check out. For AR, my advice would just be to guess, flag and skip quickly if you’re not sure and memorise one of the acronyms to help.
      I mainly used medic portal and a bit of medify but, from what I practised, medify was so much harder than the real exam, especially QR, DM and AR. I would say out of all the sections, QR on medify is the least realistic because it’s so much more difficult. The official UCAT mock exams were the most realistic to the actual exam.

      @helloitssharon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      VR was one of my least favourite and it shows because it was my lowest score (670) butttt I do have some advice for it:
      Timing is everything. Look at the timer at the start of every question and you’ve got to be strict with - it's 30 seconds max per question so 2 minutes per set. If you’re running out of time, guess flag and skip always.
      There are patterns in the wording of the question where you can immediately tell which of the answers will be true/false if they include quantifying words like “always” or “never”, so that makes guessing easier as you can exclude those options from your guess. If I ran out of time and had to guess, sometimes without even rescanning the text I could guess the right answer based on which one seemed most logically right, so if in doubt use your common sense and it should make guessing a little easier.
      I ended up guessing quite a lot of my answers so don’t worry if it’s not looking great at the moment, hopefully with time you’ll improve 🫶🏾

      Hey, it’s definitely possible, you have a lot of time left to improve your score! Something I did which might work for you was that I really focused on improving my weaker sections. @@Drishya03 Thank you!! Yes, I’d suggest maybe start with a full mock and see which section is your weakest, then the following day focus on 1-2 sections only doing mini mocks for those; the next day then try another full mock and repeat. I would just like to ask 2 questions, if that's okay?
    1. What did you get in all your UCAT mocks on the official UCAT website, as you only displayed 2 on your video.
    2. I can't break out of the 500's for QR, what did you do to turn around a poor average in QR into 670 in the exam?
    Thank you and well done again! :)

    • @helloitssharon
      @helloitssharon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, so I only managed to do 3 official UCAT mocks. I used an online score calculator to figure out my scores.
      Practise A - 2430 (5 days before exam)
      VR 25/44 630
      DM 16/29 630
      QR 16/36 530
      AR 31/50 670
      SJ 45/69 Band 2
      Practise B - 2680 (3 days before exam)
      VR 30/44 700
      DM 19/29 700
      QR 19/36 550
      AR 36/50 730
      SJ 41/69 Band 3
      Practise C - 2680 (1 day before exam)
      VR 25/44 630
      DM 17/29 650
      QR 23/36 650
      AR 38/50 750
      SJ 40/69 Band 3
      My advice for QR, as silly as it sounds, was first telling myself I could do it before every question. I realised it was impossible for me to answer every question (2 minutes per set was not working out for me) so I worked out if I spent 3 minutes on every set, I could answer only 8 sets and miss out 3. I focused more on doing the questions I found easiest and doing them correctly, over doing as many as I could. This way, I guessed, flagged and skipped any long complicated questions but took into account I could only do that for 3 sets maximum. For the other 8 sets/solo questions, I took my time to focus on getting them right over doing them quickly. At the end I did have some time left over so I could go back and work out some of the questions I had flagged and guessed for.
      I hope this is helpful, and I wish you all the best! Anything is possible and I’m sure you’ll be able to get a great score 🙏🏾❤️

      Do you have any tips for VR, DM & AR?❤

    • @helloitssharon
      @helloitssharon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah sure!
      So for VR I advise to look at the timer at the start of every question, make sure it’s 30 seconds max per question so 2 minutes per set. Sometimes you can tell straight away some of the options are right/wrong based on wording so that can narrow down options when you have to guess. If I ran out of time and had to guess, sometimes without even re-scanning the text I could guess the right answer based on which one seemed to fit best.
      For DM, I found that it’s so much easier in the exam. Drawing things out to help me visualise was pretty helpful (things like venn diagram’s and tables to organise information).
      For AR, I really struggled with it but it was a lot easier in the exam too (a week before the exam I did a mock and got 350🫣). I first read the whole question to make sure I didn’t miss out on any bits of information, and if anything was a multi-step question (like do 8 steps to get the answer) I would guess, flag and skip. Near the end when I was running out of time I was skipping/flagging a lot and doing the really simple two-step questions which I knew I could get right, before going back to some of the more difficult ones.
      Hope this helps! ❤️

      @helloitssharon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, so the best thing that helped me was using the official UCAT Mocks. The question styles on the official website mocks are the most similar to the actual exam and they’re really accurate to the type of questions that came up for me in the exam.
      I used a mix of medify + medic portal.
      On medify:
      VR was very accurate to the exam
      DM was harder on medify
      AR was harder on medify
      OR was so so so much harder on medify
      On medic portal:
      VR was a little easier on medic portal
      DM was harder on medic portal
      AR was harder on medic portal
      QR was much harder on medic portal
      But overall I would say medify is better than medic portal because medic portal is very limited in terms of practise options (less mocks, no mini mocks, no timed practise)
      Hope this helps and I wish you all the best with your exam! ❤️🙏🏾

      So for VR I advise to look at the timer at the start of every question, make sure it's 30 seconds max per question so 2 minutes per set. Scan for key words or phrases that will be easily identifiable to help you answer the question.
      Sometimes you can tell straight away some of the options are right/wrong based on wording so that can narrow down options when you have to guess. If I ran out of time and had to guess, sometimes without even re-scanning the text I could guess the right answer based on which one seemed to logically fit best. With long complicated passages that would be time consuming, I would guess logically, flag and skip to come back to at the end.
      For SJT I would advise to practise but more importantly review wrong answers and learn why it was wrong. I would retest myself the day after on the same set of questions to see if I got the answers right or wrong a second time.
      My method of doing sjt was first deciding if it was overall positive or overall negative, and then seeing if it had negative or positive aspects to it. Sometimes you can pick out trends based on the language used e.g “confront” or “accuse” being used will almost always mean very inappropriate.

      What would you recommend for someone who is about 5 days away from their exam? What should I be doing rn?

    • @helloitssharon
      @helloitssharon  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you should try to do some of the official UCAT mocks as they are really accurate to the exam. If you've done all of them already, then only do timed practise questions from now on (2 hours max per day is what I did).
      Ideally each day you should do one mock exam and then go over the wrong answers to figure out where you went wrong and what you can improve on.
      I wish you all the best with your exam and I'm sure you'll do great! 🙏🏾

      @@helloitssharon what would you recommend me doing the day before my exam? :)

    • @helloitssharon
      @helloitssharon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@user-gi3yr1gl7j If there’s a particular area of the UCAT that you struggle with or if you’re not feeling confident, I’d suggest doing 1-2 hours max of practise (timed or one of the official UCAT mocks). If possible, try to avoid doing any UCAT practise at all so you don’t get overwhelmed or burnt out right before the exam.
      I think the main thing for you to do would be rest (make sure you get a good nights sleep!) and get in a good headspace. Do things that bring you peace and help you stay calm.
      I wish you all the best with your exam and I’m sure you’ll do great!!!🙏🏾

    How was the QR and AR in the exam?

    • @helloitssharon
      @helloitssharon  ปีที่แล้ว

      QR and AR were so much easier in the exam compared to medify + medic portal. AR I actually ended up finishing with 2 minutes spare and with QR I found the questions/scenarios a lot simpler to understand
