Best tutorial. Emphasizing knees out, wedge, almost sitting squat on it. Then stand up. I think the best explained and demonstrated among all the other rope climbing vids.
Pat, you have such a great speaking/coaching voice and temperament. You would make a great teacher/coach! And of course, Kristi makes everything seem like a cake walk. I've always been curious on how to rope climb so this was such a helpful vid!
The ropes are durable and just like the ones at the gym. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTFxba6lNeHrZaHoY_LXe6ZzmMfaipnwu Caution: I bought the 50 feet ropes and they are long and heavy so make sure you have the space (I do have the space). If I was to do it again I would probably get a shorter version as 50 feet (25 feet each side) is a little long.
You guys are both great instructors- you can clearly do the moves with ease but you give relatable, easy-to-apply instruction also for novices. Thanks very much
Thanks so much for this great video. My 13 yr. old daughter and I watched it yesterday to get some more technique tips and worked on a couple of them. Today she made it all the way up to the top (15 ft) on her first try (second try, too)! Thanks again.
Great video as always. Could you please do an extension of this video to show the descent part with the sliding down technique? I’m pretty good at going up the rope but I struggle with the descent doing hand over hand and fatiguing my biceps eventually. Thank you so much
You guys have awesome content and do an amazing job. This is the best CrossFit based channel out there. You are helping your subscribers with useful information. Besides the content I really like your delivery which is very upbeat and not centered on you but on the viewer. You guys work well together, keep it up! :-)
Great vid..Back in H.S., I could sit on ground and climb that rope legs held parallel to ground..Maybe I was 120lb wet.. Now at 200 not sure would turn out the same lol, but im down to try..
Great video, thank you. Used all your tips bar one and my rope climb is brilliant,a multiple climbs to height! I’ll implement the ‘wedge’ with knees apart on my next practise and work on descents same as ascents. Than you so much for your great instruction! 👍
Awsme video. Finally. I will definitely try it on my next workout. I have a problem on the transition aspect. I can't seem to do the second move. I can do the initial hook but moving up my feet dnt wrap again. Idk if that makes sense; hence, don't go more than the initial hook.Any advice on transition drills?
Im enlisting in the United states Marin Corp im losing hundred pounds before I join and this is helpful so I have strategy for rope climbing at basic training thank you
Great tips & technique on how to climb the rope. So the dominant foot is the top foot when I am clamping down on the rope? I ALWAYS seem to be missing my foot placement when climbing the rope. Should I start on a smaller rope for a workout?
That's one well worn rope! Great video. The rope over the bar is genius! Thanks guys. Ps: love the way you rub whatever it was off Pat's head Kristie 😂
I’m able to climb a rope, however, my biceps get smoked before o can climb a full 30 feet. What would help me here? More conditioning or better technique? For conditioning, I don’t have a rope to climb and I’ve noticed that pull-ups do not transfer over the same way. Help?
Braulio Torres working on your footwork will most noticeable difference you can make. Check out the foot positioning again, and when you have it locked in you should Hardly use any biceps!!
I successfully got my footwork down to where I’m stable on the rope but upon my first climb up, my footwork falls apart. Going to practice more and more to get this skill down
Is there a correct foot we would want on the bottom and correct on the top for comfort? For example I kick with my right foot in soccer but if I were to say jump whether basketball or long jump I'd use my left. Which foot do you guys put on top the bottom one naturally for rope climb?
I’m new to rope climbing. When I try this it twists my shoe off of my lower foot. I don’t have this problem with other footholds. What am I doing wrong?
How much weight is actually on arms and shoulders? How much is on the knees? My son is 58 and was doing cross fit. He has bad shoulders and knees are bone on bone. He still wants to do the ropes. He says not weight on the arms and I can't believe that. He is to get shots in his shoulders.
Dear sir/mam I have learnt rope climbing recently. I m new in this learning technique. I have problem in my finger. Fingers joints are stiff and are paining in the early morning. Especially in morning when I m folding my fingers. What to do? Please guide me I m 44year
Without looking at this video , I thought about my youth its all about strength to weight ratio not raw power. I would scale up these ropes easily and effortlessly as a child. Much more difficult as an adult.
That method J-hook was proven to be a outdated and very Risky climbing method....Not good. The military has seen more broken ankles with this climbing method 😳. Professional climbers and SF military guys will tell you to stay away from this.
also this isn't an exercise technique, it's a REAL rope climbing technique used in various REAL jobs that people have. Its been around before weight lifting and fitness were even a thing.

can you please do a part 2 to this video covering descends, don't know how you guys can let go of the rope without burning your hands
I end up burning my ankles going down

Got my first climb today in the gym. Great content! Totally helps me work on skills that go into this. 🙌
PU bar for practicing the pinch is a stroke of genius. Love it

Good stuff, thank you 🤙
I use the same technique but have a tendency to get burns on the front-side of the shins close to the ankle. Any advice?

I would make sure you are pushing your knees out, so pressure in pointing in the direction of the rope and not down toward the ground!
@@patrickoconnell2380 Thanks! I’ll try that! :)

“There should never be muscle fatigue” I have to break because my core is toast. I just can’t get my feet up 🤣
Generally what is the diameter of the rope?

Without looking at this video , I thought about my youth its all about strength to weight ratio not raw power. I would scale up these ropes easily and effortlessly as a child. Much more difficult as an adult.
A decent video would be nice, everyone do a accent video, but never down. Which is a skill on its own...
“You just say ‘bingo.’”
Who was going to do most of the demo?? Lol
11th grade gym class won’t know what hit them
disagree, too much energy folding yourself in 1/2. best to pike your legs out rope outboard on dominant side. if not, tuck-v and do like wise.
🤩🙏🏼
Best way to climb the rope and descend the rope is to never use your legs or feet……
Holy cow you make it look complicated. See how the military does it.
I bet rope climbs destroy shoes.
