Hidrocystoma (also known as cystadenoma, Moll's gland cyst, or sweat cyst) is an adenoma of the sweat glands. Hidrocystomas are cysts of the sweat ducts, usually on the eyelids.
There are three types of sweat glands: the true or eccrine sweat glands; sebaceous glands, which have a greasy secretion around the hair follicles; and apocrine glands which have a fattier product than eccrine glands and are found in the face, armpit and groin.
They generally arise from the apocrine glands. They are also called Moll's cysts or sudoriferous cysts. There may be a type of hidradenoma that arises from the eccrine glands, but these are rare.
Other eyelid-related conditions include chalazion (a granulomatous reaction to the oil glands in the eyelid), tear duct cysts (related to the tear ducts), and nasolacrimal duct cysts (the drainage of the nasolacrimal duct tears into the nose through of a point on the underside of the eyelid).
Therapy
Removal of a hidrocystoma may be indicated for cosmetic reasons.
El hidrocistoma (también conocido como cistoadenoma,​ quiste de las glándulas de Moll, o quiste sudorífero) es un adenoma de las glándulas sudoríparas. Los hidrocistomas son quistes de los conductos del sudor, generalmente en los párpados.
Hay tres tipos de glándulas sudoríparas: las glándulas sudoríparas verdaderas o ecrinas; glándulas sebáceas, que tienen una secreción grasa alrededor de los folículos pilosos; y glándulas apocrinas que tienen un producto más graso que las glándulas ecrinas y se encuentran en la cara, axila e ingle.
Generalmente surgen de las glándulas apocrinas. También se les llaman quistes de Moll o quistes sudoríferos. Puede haber un tipo de hidroadenoma que surge de las glándulas ecrinas, pero estos son poco comunes.
Otras afecciones relacionadas con los párpados incluyen chalazión (una reacción granulomatosa a las glándulas sebáceas en el párpado), quistes del conducto lagrimal (relacionados con los conductos lagrimales) y quistes del conducto nasolagrimal (el drenaje del conducto nasolagrimal se rasga en la nariz a través de un punto en la parte inferior del párpado).
Terapia
La extirpación de un hidrocistoma puede estar indicada por razones cosméticas.
