    Thanks, this was a helpful video for me changing this part. I will offer two tips. 1. the obvious tip, drive the car until the needle in on E before doing this job, easier to move an empty tank. 2. BEFORE you tighten the tank straps align and tighten the screws in the trunk and on the body, while you can still wiggle the tank around t make adjustments, then fully tighten the tank straps.

    Thanks for the video, mine has the broken plastic piece that holds the neck to the fender... got that from the junkyard, realized one of the hoses was loose behind that cover, plugged that back in, aaand now the filler neck won't reach. I'm guessing that thing has been broken for so long that the filler neck has banged around enough to work itself out of shape... buying a new one and gonna replace it - your video sure as hell helped a ton! THANKS!

    I used Dawn dishwashing liquid to lube up the gasket and the filler neck and they slid in and together easily

    3:12 what is the name of that “pin” or whatever you’re pulling out? My buddy stepped on it by accident and it broke but I didn’t realize till everything was practically done.. really need the name so I can go out and get one, thanks!

    I can't believe you got that grommet in with that tank still up in the air. That thing was tough and I had my tank out. I had to change my fuel pump so I had to drop the tank. One of those fuel lines you stuck a screwdriver in is supposed to take a fuel line tool to remove. I don't see how that is going to hold and stay on now. It would seem like that would have broken it's seal. The one you said requires a screwdriver. This is not a really fun job to do. It's kind of a pain. Getting the angle right on that tank so that you can get the filler tube Into The Grommet is a major pain. I miss the days when my brother was out there helping. We used to knock stuff like this out and half the time. If you have somebody to hold that tank on the left side while you push the filler neck in on the right side, it is so much easier. I've done quite a few of these in life.

    I broke the Fuel Tank Filler Neck nozzle when trying to get the fuel tank back on. It isn't all that easy to get that nozzle to go back into the tank. Anyway, I'm not sure if I should spend the extra bucks for OEM ($210 at Amazon) or go with the aftermarket Spectra Premium ($72). Anyway, there's gotta be an easier way to get the tank back on.

    what a terrible PITA this was, but finally got it done on my Cobra. Unfortunately, I think the IRS subframe makes getting the driver's-side gas tank strap bolt out an even bigger PITA. Even with the tank dropped about as much as in your video, we ended up cutting the old filler neck as the (obviously hardened) grommet simply wouldn't let go of the end of the neck.
    One oddity I had was that when I went to put my finger in to start pulling out the old grommet, some plastic/rubber ring about the width of my middle finger detached and then promptly fell into the tank (oops). Oddly, when I pulled the grommet out it looked identical to the new one, so I have no idea what it was.

    Thanks for posting this! My filler neck is fine but the gasket is shot, kinda opposite of yours. I replaced the pump a couple of months ago and noticed the back gasket but didn’t replace it (like an idiot) now I have a leak so here I go again lol.

    I have a Lot less rust in my GT than that and I will replace Everything, Fuel Tank fuel pump grommet gasket, I mean everything, reasons..? #1 the tank have some rust on the top, #2 if I will put a new fuel tank in it I will put a new fuel pump because #3 and you already know it is a pain in the but to deal under the car to remove that tank, so as a preventive maintenance and anticipating a "Possible" failure I rather go all the way and not to worry about it... however for the problem that you have you did a very helpfull video..

    • @UzarskiDesigns
      @UzarskiDesigns  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luis Vellon Haha, i cant blame you! Im just planning on it sputtering one day and then ill change the fuel filter because it will most likely be a little clogged. But yes! Your way will be much safer in the long run.

    Actually without going through all that you could have cut out the rusted peace and replaced it with a piece of 3/4 inch Rubber gas line now I just guessing on the size because I couldn't tell what size the piece was that Rusted Out was this possible or not to fix The Problem

    Good video. Re: the rust caused by the plastic cover, if you spin the cover so that the slit is facing down any water that gets in there will flow out the slit instead of being trapped. Just sayin'...

      People may hate on it but wrap it in fiberglass. Protects from rust and doesn't break from gas like silicone

    could spray the new one with that box liner stuff itd seal it from rusting

    did the car have a check engine light due to vacuum loss? my gt has a cel for vacuum loss in the tank and ive been told to replace the gas cap first. no change from that and now im going to check my lines when i have a chance. just curious what your situation was?

    • @UzarskiDesigns
      @UzarskiDesigns  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +jacob fulk I had some "evap" code I believe. It came on and went away for a little while and then one day when I was filling up the fuel tank gas dripped on the ground. I replaced this part and the engine codes went away. Inspect your filler tube closely and see if it is corroded. Mine was rusted all the way through and this is a summer car.

    Electrical tape works but will dry out very fast. Water will get around it and your back to square one. Just get a can of rhino liner and spray the filler neck where it rusted. Rocks from the wheel wont penetrate that shit.
