Couldn't agree more on the Quinn/Bailey storyline. There was definitely a lot to look forward to on that journey but I suppose with only 9 episodes, there just wouldn't be enough time. Miller's book goes into more detail about the Maquis and the resistance overall which was a journey less than easy. So I imagine that subplot couldn't be developed further either way. And don't get me started on the Westgate/Crosby trope😭😭😭 I really wish they could have kept the infidelity out of the show. Crosby mentions Wingate (aka Westgate) in his memoir from what I know but whether they had that type of relationship, I have yet to find out. In my opinion, he did likely have an affair, given the nature of a lot of married men in the war, but I don't think he would ever mention that in his book. Either way, I struggle to understand where the show will end with only two episodes left. We have entered Spring of '44 which is nearing some of the greatest American air offensive in the European theatre, but there are still the loose ends of so many things. So far from the teaser clips at the end of the episode, we have what looks like elements of The Invasion, The Great March, The Tuskegee Airmen, and now Subaltern's role will potentially be revealed. HOWWWWW will they tie it all together in just two episodes? I'm eager to know. Honestly, this show deserved 12 episodes at least or even another season or something😭

Seeing all the comments makes me sad. I’m still loving every single second of every episode. All the characters are amazing and while story is a bit rushed I think as long as episode 9 gives us a definitive conclusion then it’ll be fine! Another interesting inaccuracy is the use of tracer ammunition - it had been phased out by November 1943 (the episode shows a raid on Berlin in March 1944). At the same time, gunners were trained differently - only shooting at fighters attacking their plane when in a pursuit curve, not randomly shooting at everything that flies past. Man I’m not gunna lie I LOVE the series, still. Since the beginning when people were complaining because everything can’t be Band of Brothers 2.0. But these last 2 episodes were an undeniable let down in my opinion. Just so boring! I’m a fan till the end tho, and if they can really knock the next 2 out of the park I’m happy. But I unfortunately can’t kid myself that the last two episodes I had trouble being entertained all the way to the end. At least EP 6 had an interesting change of scenery. But 7…man. I’m hangin on tho.
If the prisoners are getting letters from home then obviously the people back home know that they are alive and in prison camp. How come Bucky wasn't aware that Buck was alive until he saw him?
Another thing (as well as the fact that the men were captured less than a week apart) was the time lag for communications. The Germans had to notify the Red Cross of the names of prisoners taken, the Red Cross had to notify the American or British governments, and the governments would then then notify the families. ALL this is in an era before electronic communication, so the notifications were crossing the Atlantic by boat. An exchange of letters would take weeks, if not months. The POWs were permitted to send letters home as well...they could buy stationery at the camp store (the Germans actually gave each man a stipend for purchases like this). However, such letters WERE of course, closely examined by the Germans for intelligence purposes. And of course, none of the men would write a letter addressed to "100th Bomb Group Thorpe Abbot"......
@@johnshepherd9676 A damm more 60 ship losses in 1944 than in 1943. 1510 B-17's and B-25's missing and written off between 1 Jan 1944 to 31st May 1944 just in 8th Air Force. Most Berlin raids lost 20-30 aircraft. The low loss raids happened mostly when the place was covered in thick cloud and the 8th Bombed on H2X.
I can't believe my eyes.. Hundreds of P-51s with their wing tanks still attached. And instead of circling above te bombers formations, they fly through the bomber formations and head straight for the German fighters that have the altitude and of course, speed advantage... Mustangs fly in a very close formation.. Almost wing to wing.. Someone of CGI, forget or didn't know nothing about the finger-four doctrine? ( German fighters dive at an angle that would have broke off their wings )... The ensuing combat, a mix of enemy/friendly bombers and fighters (which has never happened in this way), seems straight out of Star Wars... ( The bombers, always fired on any single-engine plane that came within range )
not every one knows what we do,,it can get painful to watch,,im pleased at the effects but stay tuned for the 332 to fly in from italy,,,,where they escorted my fathers 2nd Bm group
@@richardsmith2684 My Parents saw them flying toward Germany many many times from a place near Verone.. My uncle told me about Mustangs when I was a kid... ( But the seventh episode air battle is a shame, I hope there will be another director ) Greetings from italy
Thanks for pointing those errors out, I was cringing at the mistakes too. However I think I read that in the early period of Mustang escorts they were ordered to fly close to the bombers, as this gave the traumatised crews a greater - albeit false - sense of security. It could even have been in the "Masters of the Air" book. Also I thought that from early 1944 many of the B17s were no longer painted, saving weight and drag. Anyone able to clarify?
I think you are being unbelievably naive when you say they didn’t know what the radio was !! It’s the luftwaffe they use radios. To say they didn’t know what it was without headphones is ridiculous. Just a glance would tell you it’s a radio. What else in 1940 could it be !! For goodness sake On the camp scenes, I agree they seem to be worried they weren’t going to survive and better to try and escape. That’s the impression I got too. I wonder is that what happens and they get killed. But escaping isn’t easy and it seems only the British knew how. On the Thorpe abbots I think the reality was the aircrews did feel abandoned by their seniors as they were just sent up mission after mission with no thought. Finally I agree I too would have liked to see more on how the two escaped. Last we saw they were turning up in a city and one had panicked so I’d like to have seen more rather than suddenly they appear back at Thorpe abbots
Great show but it's no Band of brothers , BOB started with bootcamp you got to know the characters before they became a unit , this show throws you straight in with no character association and for me IMO I'm struggling , I've watched rogue heroes and they did the same from early beginnings through to missions I grew to know the characters and what a surprise in episode 7 to see Corin Silva from rougue heroes in the episode as Lt Col John Bennett
Yes, they did, through the offices of the Red Cross. The Red Cross also passed along parcels that contained, food, coffee, games, and other slight luxuries, and these (usually) made it to the POWs. It should be noted that the Red Cross parcels were supposed to contain comfort items only, but both the US and Great Britain sent along escape aids such as money and maps, typically laminated on the backs of board games....
Feels like the CGI budget ran out in this episode, the bomb run looked terrible, the dogfight looked like a cartoon. Mustangs did escort the bombers on March 6th but not from the centre of the formation (that's asking to be shot down) the mustangs were also painted olive drab at this point and didn't carry 5 inch rockets, I also saw red tail mustangs in there 🫣. John Orloff keeps talking about how much attention to detail the have but they can't seem to get the basics right.
It's not all "PC," as you call it. The 332nd did fly escort missions over Germany, though I do not know whether their missions were limited to bombers in the 15th Air Force (of which the 332nd was a part) or if their missions extended to escorting Forts and Liberators from the 8th Air Force, as well. But, the 332nd was there.
@@TricksterDa123 the no 15th AF fighters escorted 8th AF bombers, there were many times more fighter groups in England and the 15th were essentially on a different continent.
Flying out of Italy they escorted 15th Air Force bombers over Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary, Poland, and Germany (May 1944 to April 1945). So it would have been southern Germany, not further north where the 18th were.@@TricksterDa123
Right!!! Agree at 100% but..... Please don't write so loud.. All people here could read your comment and feel themself offended...🤣 It seems that nobody knows something about air war
1 little mistake in the episode, crosby claims the mustang is 'by far the best fighter in the war' but the spitfire beats the mustang in pretty much every category, spitfire was faster, had a faster climbing rate, carried heavier firepower, could carry 1000lbs of extra equipment whether that be bombs, reconnaissance devices etc while mustang could only carry 500lbs
P-51 drastically changed the strategic air war. After Munster, 8th Airforce had to hit targets closer to home, because leaders finally figured out bombers can’t protect themselves without fighter cover. P-51 changed all that not the spitfire.
The main reason that fighter started making a difference was they added drop tanks to the planes. Something Churchill had asked the Americans to do. They finally listened.
@@legiox3719 It's about dogfighting capability, not what it can carry. And the P51D was superb dogfighter, while the Spitfire was perhaps the better all-round fighter. But carrying 1000lb of bombs is useless on long range escort flights. And the Spitfire XIV was the only variant that could marginally beat the Mustang P51D on speed and climb rate. And only a total of 957 Spitfire XIV were built. In contrast, there were 8200 P51D built. And the P51D was just about neck and neck with the Spitfire XIV for top speed and climb rate.
07:47 ''I'm not gonna lie, it feels like there was a story...'' Yes, there was, but they ditched it in favour of the complete rubbish about Egan and Cleven. What a load of dross.
I’m sorry but I have to say I was underwhelmed by this episode and it’s the weakest one so far for me. Some of the things I was unsure of have come to a head. The fact that we didn’t see black Monday in the air was unforgivable; that’s two pivotal air scenes they have just shown us the aftermath of. It’s a creative choice likely to not over do it , but it was the wrong choice. The creators need to know the most interesting part is when they are up in the air. The narration I let slide because I thought maybe it was just me but I don’t think it adds anything and gets in the way. The show misses the commentary from veterans at the beginning like BOB and the Pacific, I know there may not be any alive, but there are interviews up to as late as last year which was likely when this was in production. The dialogue between the two Bucky’s has too many dead pauses and sometimes the sparse dialogue in general makes the show drag. Finally, the CGI on Rosenthals last flight was just really cheap looking and very CGI ish especially with the P51s and the German fighters, and I don’t believe fighter air combat looked like that. When they dropped the bombs it looked like a PC game from 1998 . As we are 7 episodes in , I have to say it hasn’t met the technical quality of The Pacific or Band of Brothers (with the exception of episode 3 and 5 which I have watched several times) .
Review: Movie Title: Masters of the Air Director: Distributor: Apple TV Genre: War Rotten Tomatoes: 87% My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Primary Audience: 18+ Year of Release: 2024 The First Media Key: Balance In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #1 is praying for the virtue of temperance which “is necessary for practicing the key of balance.”(Gan, pg. 31) Practicing the virtue of temperance is important because, “The temperate person directs the sensitive appetites toward what is good and maintains a healthy discretion.”(Gan, pg. 31) When looking at any form of media from all angles, its positives and negatives need to be evaluated as well as how much time was spent on it. The show exhibits balance when in Episode 2. The Americans and British are sitting down in a London bar drinking while on their weekend passes. Discussion arises over whether it is smarter to bomb during the day which is the position the Americans hold as it gives them the ability to perform precision bombing resulting in less civilian casualties but many more deaths among their ranks. While the British preformed their bombing at night which was less dangerous since they were under the cover of the night sky, the Americans preform precision bombing during the day with no cover The Second Media Key: Attitude Awareness In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #2 is praying for the virtue of prudence which “disposes practical reason to discern our true good in every circumstance and to choose the right means of achieving it...”(Gan, pg. 47) Through the TV Show we follow flight navigators who are abroad the flights during missions. These men were responsible for making sure the pilots were flying the proper routes and would make adjustments if need be. For example, If a plane was hit with bullets from fighter planes and flack and lost three of its four engines they would need to either bail or go down for an emergency landing. The navigator would calculate how far the plane would fly in its current condition given the amount of fuel left. They would then plot a route for an emergency landing. These decisions have deadly implications if a mistake was made. The Third Media Key: The Dignity of the Human Person In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #3 is praying for the virtue of justice which “disposes one to respect the rights of each and to establish in human relationships the harmony that promotes equity about persons and the common good.”(CCC Paragraph 1807) The dignity of the human person is seen numerous times during the show. One example of this is the way POWs were treated along with people who were brought by train to camps. The Fourth Media Key: Truth-Filled In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #4 is praying for the virtue of fortitude which “enables one to conquer fear, even fear of death, and to face trials and persecutions. It disposes one even to renounce and sacrifice his life in defense of a just cause.”(CCC Paragraph 1808) The show tries to be accurate to the true events of the 100th bomber group by referencing numerous resources whether it be, files, books or videos. They wanted to show the authentic events that unfold all those years ago. The Fifth Media Key: Inspiring In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #5 is praying for the “virtue of hope to be integrated into all media.”(Gan, pg. 95) The show is inspiring in numerous ways but one example is seeing what men will do in times of war to survive. The tremendous loss they deal with and how they move on. Their reality was facing death each and every day. The Sixth Media Key: Skillfully Developed In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #6 is praying for the virtue of faith; which is believing in God as Creator, Father, and the source of truth. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “...By faith ‘man freely commits his entire self to God.’ For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God's will. ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ Living faith ‘work[s] through charity.’ ”(CCC Paragraph 1814) This is similar to being truth filled the show tries to be accurate to the true events of 100th bomber group by referencing numerous resources whether it be, files, books or videos. They wanted to show the authentic events that unfold all those years ago. Great casting and the right crew can produce a wonderful result. The Seventh Media Key: Motivated By and Relevant to Experience In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #7 is praying for the “virtue of charity; which can promote sympathy for and understanding of others.”(Gan, pg. 128) Although most living people today have not been in a world war, this show tries to give a better understanding to people like you and me about what actually happened. Along with the importance of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The loss can be heavy on soldiers when you do lose someone in our own lives its important to grieve but move on since there is still more life left to live.
According to Crosby’s book, “A Wing and a Prayer “, there wasn’t a sexual relationship. I got the feeling from his book that he felt that was a line as a married man he would not cross.
Are you telling me the Germans didn't know they found a radio in the camp? You are just being ridiculous. Of course they new it was a radio. What else would it have been? I don't think you can say that they didn't know it was a radio from this episode.
I absolutely hated this episode. They denied us of so many emotional scenes, like the emotional reunion of Quinn and Bailey. They didn't show us the most darkest mission, Black Monday, and just skimmed over the aftermath of it. Didn't show us one bit of the P51, which was a game changer in the air battle. The action scene was way too short. It was a whole lot of telling rather than showing in this episode. And I really didn't need to see 2 sex scenes. Why would you show our hero of the series commit adultery? It only tarnished Crosby's good standing with the viewer. Lastly, the stalag scenes were boring, and it was quite disrespectful of the show to not tell about the great escape. At least have the characters acknowledge how horrible it was that 50 escapees were executed. 😖

The two men were shot down only a few days apart. The letter scene is months after they were captured
Because they were shot down only FOUR days apart.
Maybe because a shor time had pass by
Another thing (as well as the fact that the men were captured less than a week apart) was the time lag for communications.
And of course, none of the men would write a letter addressed to "100th Bomb Group Thorpe Abbot"......
just like I expected just watched episode 8 I think they shoulda made it 10 episodes at least
By March '44 casualties were dropping rapidly because they had fighter escort from start to finish. 12:58
The Loss to Sorties flown was dropping . The 8th were still losing a butt load of bombers on raids all the way to May 45.
@@richardvernon317 the 1944-45 loss rates were nothing like 1943. Mid single digits on raids on downtown Berlin
.

@@richardsmith2684
My Parents saw them flying toward Germany many many times from a place near Verone..
My uncle told me about Mustangs when I was a kid...
( But the seventh episode air battle is a shame, I hope there will be another director )
Greetings from italy
It is truly awful at times.
B-17's with Lancaster bomb loads is bollocks as well.
What's Maroons
Why does the camp commandant look like Colonel Klink?
It's only 9 episodes? Band of Brothers and The Pacific were both 10 episodes.
I think you are being unbelievably naive when you say they didn’t know what the radio was !! It’s the luftwaffe they use radios. To say they didn’t know what it was without headphones is ridiculous. Just a glance would tell you it’s a radio. What else in 1940 could it be !! For goodness sake
On the camp scenes, I agree they seem to be worried they weren’t going to survive and better to try and escape.
Rosie’s a fuckin G! 100% Bonafide made in America!🇺🇸
I never knew that POWs received mail.
@@ronwanttaja8209 Wow. That is amazing. Thank you so much for the history lesson.
Never knew they ate cats. Make me sided with the Germans against the pows
John Orloff keeps talking about how much attention to detail the have but they can't seem to get the basics right.
its been admitted putting in the 332 was pure PC,,an insult to their and the 8th history,,,the camp etc is becoming hogans heros
Just love the way all the high explosive bombs go off with a big flash!
Not bad, but the two who escaped Germany should have been followed too.
09:38 This chaos in the air is nonsens! No fighter pilot runs into such "traffic"!
Right!!! Agree at 100% but..... Please don't write so loud..
All people here could read your comment and feel themself offended...🤣
It seems that nobody knows something about air war

Looks like a great game. Is it XBox?!
The skipped big week of February 1944
Skipped 2nd Schweinfurt as well.
@@richardvernon317 yea I’m done with this series. The first 3 episodes were incredible but it seems their budget ran out after that.
@@legiox3719 none of that has any relevance on which is a better fighter, fighter being used for a different purpose doesnt make a fighter better.
You got that switched my dude. P51 could carry double the payload of a spitfire
07:47 ''I'm not gonna lie, it feels like there was a story...''
Yes, there was, but they ditched it in favour of the complete rubbish about Egan and Cleven.
I understand that in war there are sacrifices, but this was horrible. I wonder if Gen. Lamay would have gone up with these odd?
If you mean did he proceed ,,of course he did ,,then took over the bombing of japan,,,fire raids pre atom bombs
The sacrifices made by CGI you mean?!
I don't...he didn't..
Curtis LeMay did fly missions as a Colonel in WW II including leading the Regensburg group in the Schweinfurt-Regensburg raid depicted in MOTA.
Review: Movie
Title: Masters of the Air
Director:
Distributor: Apple TV
Genre: War
Rotten Tomatoes: 87%
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Primary Audience: 18+
Year of Release: 2024
The First Media Key: Balance
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #1 is praying for the virtue of temperance which “is necessary for practicing the key of balance.”(Gan, pg.
While the British preformed their bombing at night which was less dangerous since they were under the cover of the night sky, the Americans preform precision bombing during the day with no cover
The Second Media Key: Attitude Awareness
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #2 is praying for the virtue of prudence which “disposes practical reason to discern our true good in every circumstance and to choose the right means of achieving it...”(Gan, pg. 47)
Through the TV Show we follow flight navigators who are abroad the flights during missions.
The Third Media Key: The Dignity of the Human Person
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #3 is praying for the virtue of justice which “disposes one to respect the rights of each and to establish in human relationships the harmony that promotes equity about persons and the common good.”(CCC Paragraph 1807)
The dignity of the human person is seen numerous times during the show. One example of this is the way POWs were treated along with people who were brought by train to camps.
The Fourth Media Key: Truth-Filled
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #4 is praying for the virtue of fortitude which “enables one to conquer fear, even fear of death, and to face trials and persecutions. It disposes one even to renounce and sacrifice his life in defense of a just cause.”(CCC Paragraph 1808)
The show tries to be accurate to the true events of the 100th bomber group by referencing numerous resources whether it be, files, books or videos. They wanted to show the authentic events that unfold all those years ago.
The Fifth Media Key: Inspiring
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #5 is praying for the “virtue of hope to be integrated into all media.”(Gan, pg. 95)
The show is inspiring in numerous ways but one example is seeing what men will do in times of war to survive. The tremendous loss they deal with and how they move on. Their reality was facing death each and every day.
The Sixth Media Key: Skillfully Developed
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #6 is praying for the virtue of faith; which is believing in God as Creator, Father, and the source of truth. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “...By faith ‘man freely commits his entire self to God.’ For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God's will. ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ Living faith ‘work[s] through charity.’ ”(CCC Paragraph 1814)
This is similar to being truth filled the show tries to be accurate to the true events of 100th bomber group by referencing numerous resources whether it be, files, books or videos. They wanted to show the authentic events that unfold all those years ago. Great casting and the right crew can produce a wonderful result.
The Seventh Media Key: Motivated By and Relevant to Experience
In the book Infinite Bandwidth, the first step of applying Media Key #7 is praying for the “virtue of charity; which can promote sympathy for and understanding of others.”(Gan, pg. 128)
Although most living people today have not been in a world war, this show tries to give a better understanding to people like you and me about what actually happened. Along with the importance of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The loss can be heavy on soldiers when you do lose someone in our own lives its important to grieve but move on since there is still more life left to live.
Did Crosby actually cheat on his wife in this episode or was this just some sort of drama to make the show more dramatic?
I'm pretty sure they'd have cleared it with his family before including it.
According to Crosby’s book, “A Wing and a Prayer “, there wasn’t a sexual relationship. I got the feeling from his book that he felt that was a line as a married man he would not cross.
@@connorsed ok good I was just wondering cuz I wouldn’t really like him anymore if he did that but I’m glad he didn’t.
I read somewhere that he didn't talk about cheating with Sandra until his wife passed away.
try BS
Are you telling me the Germans didn't know they found a radio in the camp? You are just being ridiculous. Of course they new it was a radio. What else would it have been? I don't think you can say that they didn't know it was a radio from this episode.
After seeing they ate that cat. I sided with the Germans
Being an anti-British Hollywood production, they only mentioned the Great Escape in order to complain that it made things worse for the American POWs.
@8:02 that looks suspiciously like a KrAZ crane truck in the background, not exactly period accurate I'm afraid.
Horrible cgi
