Wicked tutorial. On the 2017 250r the owners manual says 0.008 for exhaust valve clearance, which is a misprint it should be 0.011, like the 2014. The misprint might be just in manuals for Canadian bikes but just wanted to post this some where that people might see it before taking it all apart like I did!!
Also could you link what engine oil you used when reassembling the bike. Also could you link the took you used to measure the width of the shims. Thanks!
I have a 14 model too, would this be the cause for the hard time cranking at cold weather? I can tell it wants to, but never does I have to roll start it. I was thinking of a wiseco higher compression piston too, would valve and shim and piston upgrade help? I think it should, or maybe for now just valve adjustments
Yes the valves could be too tight resulting in difficult start. Do your valves first and then upgrade. Remember higher compression piston requires the use of race fuel.
Hello I've got an issue where it wont run after doing the clearances, the cam is not 180 out and the clearances are writhin spec all the timing Mark's are ok but it will only fire and then cut, anybody help?
Unless you’ve had your bike sitting in your garage or whatever for a year waiting for a response, it doesn’t matter where your chain is as long as your top dead center marks on the cam gear and on the bottom crank line up
How have the valves been on your bike? I just bought a 14 rode it twice and now it won’t start cold. I’m assuming my intake valves are tight. But I’ve been reading a lot of mixed reviews on hondas valves. I’d love to hear your experience. Thanks
The bike has been running stroung since I made the adjustment. I have a 2015 CRF250R bike has never had it's valves done and still starts first couple kicks cold. My buddies Kawi is having issues with cold starts I believe his valves are off the fix should be a valve adjustment.
i got a 2014 crf250r about a year ago and it blew up the first time and i got it fixed during covid and it took 8 months. So ive been riding it for about three and it blew up again 3 days ago. Possibly the worst bike ive ever owned
All i have to say it thank you, it would take me 45 minutes to start my bike now it takes 2 kicks! Thank you so very much!!!!
Thanks for the formulas! That’s the most useful tip I’ve seen in any valve shimming video over the years.
thank you for the best tutorial on youtube!

Are you sure it's a misprint? They switched to titanium for all valves in 2016 so maybe that's why values are different?
Thank you man! Got the same exact bike, very helpful!
One question, I have a 250r of the same year, and is it normal for the engine breathing hose to be wet with oil? or is something wrong with the top?
@@brandondeleon5529 could mean there is excessive blow by. As long as it's not extreme probably not a big deal
Excellent video. Thank you!
Awesome video dude I have a 2016 so it should be pretty much all the same. Just gonna make sure my specs are good to be safe! Good informative video!
Very helpful man. Thank you
Good tutorial for somebody that wants to know how to do this.👍🔧
Kid does good work. Nice to see that 🤘🏼

Watched the whole thing when I don’t even have the bike lmao nice video man
Great instructions! Thanks for making this video showing exactly what to do
Hey quick question watching video again. How come you didn’t check ur valve clearances after you installed the new shims?
I did. I may have not shown it though.
@@brotheus6310 oh okay. I really appreciate the content it going to help me out a lot!
The hole of doom! Lmao! Great video learned a lot.
Great video, next would you do a video how you do the cam chain tensioner 👍🏻
Is there supposed to be full of oil in the tdc cover thingy
BIG DAT not full of oil but forsure oil as that's how the valves are lubricated

Brotheus thank you for the response, this is my first “new” bike, I’ve only ran it on race gas since I bought it.
where do u buy the filler gauges
Why did you check the valves in the beginning
You need to know what the current gap is so you can adjust from there.

Check the tension on your timing chain. If you put it in wrong there may be too much tension.
Hey what kind of camera do you have
How do i install my chain back on the proper way if i didnt mark it with a marker like you did?
Unless you’ve had your bike sitting in your garage or whatever for a year waiting for a response, it doesn’t matter where your chain is as long as your top dead center marks on the cam gear and on the bottom crank line up
Would 014 CRF450R have the same valve clearance? I can’t find the specs online
You need to find the manual try eBay. Very important to get those numbers correct. I am not sure if they are the same spec.
Thank you
Very well done for sure!

Awesome thanks for the reply man
Great tutorial, good job
Nice work.
“Point zero zero five” man just say thou, that’s what is is, it’s 5 thousandths of an inch... 5 thou
You must be an engineer
Should you drain oil and gas?
Fred no
You could just bend it that way
Didn't have remove the shrouds from the tank .... The tank and the shrouds could have came out in 1 price instead of 4
Easier to remove the fuel line and cable with the shrouds removed.
