Suspect it might be a bit too heavy a Euro for my friends, but I'll probably get it anyway. And you never want to hear someone say "oh dear.." after cutting your hair. Sort of reminds me of when Hobbes cut Calvin's hair in the cartoon. (Sorry Jen).
You know it's funny. I'm an IT development manager. My life is development life cycle through scrum and kanban based methodologies. So long story short, this game sounded an awful lot like work. I have shy'd away from it (even seeing it in Essen). BUT - my weakness is heavy Euros and after sitting through your run through - and really your final thoughts, I'm going to take the plunge. It truly looks like a really solid game that I will enjoy. So thank you again for the service you provide - always valuable insight. Oh, and as far as the hair I vote for the mop top.

Well done for such a heaviest Euro game demonstration in this year. I really enjoy watching your new release demo vid always. One remind, normally you would have five storage for cube parts, you would get your sixth after certification.
That was actually something that confused me at first as well, because I wasn't sure if the spot with the cube was a storage space itself or just a "label" for the rest. In this case checking the rules showed an example with a cube on it, so it was an easy to solve mystery. I did somehow completely read over the part where you need to discard a design to claim a car. Repeatedly. Despite feeling that it's way too easy to get cars.

It all looks very overwhelming at first but once you learn about what is going on the system seems to be relatively smooth. Don't have many Euros in the collection so this is a much needed addition. Just once (with Jen's approval of course!), shave it all off or use clips with no guard, then grow a sweet goatee. By summertime it'll all be back. Give Rahdo a little bit of an edge for a few months... It'll be fun! (Of course, I don't have the option anymore to grow my hair back on top !) ; )
I feel like the nice mood is much more of a selfish experience, where you just try to maximize your points, whereas the mean mood is a much more aggressive play style since you can actively try to make your opponents lose points. From what I know of you from your videos, I would say you should prefer the nice mood, but then maybe a mean Sandra brings more tension...
The game mechanics are so simple. I love it! :D I was glad that I stayed throughout the entire time (runthrough + extended). This game is now on my wishlist. Thanks for the runthrough Richard. ^^ Edit: Games might not be what they seem. I have nearly dismissed three games for the cover or the board. This is one of them (the board!). Played the game for the first time this week with another couple that had played it before. I also loved it and would play again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend first-time players sit down with experienced players which will lessen the learning curve considerably. Loved it! My only criticism is that the game is really fiddly. Took quite a while to set up and this set had bins for sorting the components. Cat owners beware!
Dammit, Rahdo, you've done it AGAIN. My wallet just hates you, man! This could easily be my 2014 heavy game of the year without even playing it, even after playing and really liking Panamax. It hits a sweet spot for me in terms of time management and thematic depth. Love that there's a lot going on, love that there are so many choices, love that there is either a friendly and mean manager depending on what you choose at the start. Love that the manager is PINK... did you name her Sandra, or did the game? I am sure we will call her Sandra. LOL As for your hair, I hate to harsh on you, but the longer hair is better. Thanks for trying the air conditioning but I'd go for the fuller look. Happily, hair keeps growing and by the end of the year, you'll be back as good as new.

In the end, I think Orleans is the game of 2014 for me, and in heavy-game territory, I like Panamax marginally better than Kanban. But only because it is so hard to get to be any GOOD at Kanban. Kind of like real life.

I think you missed touching on the recycling area. It's a good way of getting a specific cube, without actually spending an action. Provided you have a cube that's not already in the recycling area.
