In my opinion, the greatest city in the world in the 80s. Loved growing up in Chicagoland. Tallest building, 85 Bears, drafting Jordan, Cubs & Sox competitive, beautiful museums, Grant Park, the lakefront, Wax Trax, pizza and so much more! Hughes captures my youth. Great memories!
Classic. Just showed this to my grade 2 class after reading about skyscrapers. I did this in 1995 when visiting with friends. #saveferris *I also used to write "Abe Froman, Chicago IL" on my nametags at camps, reunions, etc. for what it's worth ;)
I just visited Chicago and Toronto for the first time. Went up Sears...I mean Willis Tower. Chicago has an amazing skyline with beautiful skyscrapers, but it ends at downtown, Chicago River seems to be like the border of urbanity. South Loop is still a bit undeveloped with lots of empty spaces, and just a few skyscrapers. There are some skyscrapers planned or u/c around the river I noticed. A shame that Chicago Spire didn't get built, Calatrava is a world class architect, he has for example completely changed the image of Malmö, the city where I live with just one building, Turning Torso! In Toronto there are new skyscrapers everywhere, not only in downtown, a really modern and developing city. But they are not as nice as Chicago's. Both cities are amazing with great qualities, height is not everything of course.
I’m here because I’m with a New Yorker who just saw some kids on Tik Tok do this and he was amazed…. I had to tell him , dude , Ferris and his friend did this back in the 80s . I grew up I. detroit … right down the road from the Chi… what up doe 🥰
@@G-MONEY1996 I can tell you for a fact that it was. I am an architecture docent in Chicago. A few years ago we were invited to a presentation at Willis Tower. The Skydeck manager told us they put in the ledge because they got tired of wiping "forehead-prints" from the glass. (And they realized people wanted to be able to look straight down.)
The hats are traditional carnival-Attire in the rhine-Region. According to imdb they weren't pre-hired but just happened to be there. They were in Town for the german day-parade. In the german translation of the film you can hear them talk in Kölsch - the dialect spocen in and around Cologne.
@@hawkeyeaerialphotography6652 Lol you think a school would feature this movie as an assignment?! The movie is literally about skipping school and defying authority.

...and the Sears Tower is taller than the World Trade Center (twin towers) were. The twin towers were the world's tallest only until Sears Tower was completed.

I was just at the Willis Tower. There's a plaque marking the spot where Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane stood.
There is no Willis Tower in Chicago. Only a Sears Tower.
There are manniquin Mia Sara and Alan Ruck figures up there now. Matthew Brodericks spot is empty so you can stand in his spot.
hamtrak that's so cool
Thanks. On the way
Now it’s just Footprints.
Son of a bitch is down there somewhere...
this since the 80’s.. I still ask myself this question every time I watch this movie..
wth were those people on the right wearing on their heads???
Mario Gallego Its called "Narrenkappe". In Cologne (Germany) they wear it during carnival. 🙈
@@missjjoejonas i thought they were shriners this entire time

And I bet this film was the inspiration.
@@G-MONEY1996 if many people complained they couldnt do like they did in the movie, sure.

I love those two guys in the ridiculous hats.

That's awesome, But things got change inside the Skydeck when I went there once.
They have a sign up there talking about this movie.
I was just in Chicago back in April, and got to go to the top of the Sears Tower. Sorry, Willis Tower. 😊
SEARS TOWER
What does ferris and his friends looking down from the sears tower represent?
5 years of silence pal
I’m a bit late, but let me guess, you need to do a worksheet for school.
@@hawkeyeaerialphotography6652 Lol you think a school would feature this movie as an assignment?! The movie is literally about skipping school and defying authority.
What type of hats are those guys wearing?
German "Narrenkappe". These are hats worn during the German Carnaval festival (sort of like Mardi Gras)
